You're totally wrong. Detroit has literally 100% the space, years, any of it. If Yzerman decided to pursue him, he EASILY could afford him without upsetting his salary structure whatsoever. SY won't. But don't say that they don't have something like "future years" when it's completely untrue.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>this was almost coherent. But let me try and sus this out.
So yes, Campbell did provide very very very good goaltending while he was a leaf, he also out dueled both god mod price and vasilevski this year. He was better than both, they never lost because of him.
And yes, the leafs are going into the season with Murray, we discused, it's a very risky move and we'll see how that plays out.
However, the Wings paid way too much money and picks for a guy who has 40 games of decent performance with no hint of him being a starter before that, and last year they paid too much for a 26 for a guy who had 23 games of decent play with no hint of him being a starter, then he put up awful numbers that season for the wings, significantly worse ones than Murray even! On a better team!
so yeah, you enjoy your over priced, over paid goalies and bottom 5 team in the league and ill enjoy another 100 point season</div></div>
Seriously, you OBVIOUSLY do NOT understand NHL economics WHATSOEVER. Detroit now has a pair of moving-into-their-prime YOUNG goalies and it cost them exactly the sum of 2 3rd Round Draft Picks and the salaries Detroit will pay them, which for next season combined, is 7.75 million. Toronto has got Murray at 4.7 and has a COMBINED 6 mill left to re-sign Sandin and Engvall, find at least 1 more forward AND a backup goalie capable of playing at LEAST 30 games. You can make all the little smart ass quips you'd like but the tandem of Ned and Ville is FAR from overpriced (as if it matters because Detroit still needs to ADD SALARY FOR THE 22-23 SEASON) and together they are a PERFECT bridge until Seb Cossa is ready. Nedelkovic, who you suggest "put up awful numbers that season for the wings, significantly worse ones than Murray even!" Here's Ned's numbers from last season on a NON PLAYOFF team with an almost historic BAD DEFENSE (59 / 3.31 / 0.901) and you can compare them yourself with Murray's numbers with Ottawa (20 / 3.05 / 0.906) and you'll see how dumb your post is. I'll also GUARANTEE you didn't watch a SINGLE GAME of Ned last year because, if you had, you wouldn't have posted the complete assclown level trollery you did in response. Have a nice season, trolling dumb guy who shares his name with a disgraced Subway advertising hack. I'll come back and remind you of what you had to say in about 10 or 11 months.

Vegas has to move his salary or let Hague walk. I'm betting on them dumping his salary but I understand your point. Detroit may make a move on Hague, whose comp would only be a 2nd if his new contract is under a 4.2 avg. As for the Martinez deal I proposed...McIsaac is a former 2nd with a lot of potential. He's fought the injury bug but is exactly the type of player Vegas is going to need in their bottom pair for the next few seasons. Detroit didn't qualify Juolevi yesterday so the deal would need to be altered from what I proposed anyway. I wouldn't have a problem with Detroit giving up McIsaac and a 2nd in 2024 for Martinez.

I can see how that "venzia calibre" as you called it, goaltending helped you win a playoff round. The Leafs are going into the season right now with rehab Murray and ? and the Wings have a 27 year old and a 26 year old, both of whom are definitely "YOUNG" and form a fantastic team to bridge the gap until Cossa. Enjoy your "over prices" as you called it, entire Leaf roster.

He traded ONE 3rd Round Pick and got the exclusive negotiating rights to a solid young goalie who he then signed to a very reasonable 4.75 x 3 before he even GOT to the FA market. He's a perfect placeholder/timeshare with Nedeljkovic while they develop Cossa. Toronto is gonna end up with ANOTHER washed-up, never-was like Campbell or a head case reclamation project like Murray. So tell me again how you like first round exits, cuz that's where the Leafs are headed with what they're gonna have between the pipes.

23 of 32 Fan Embarasses Himself as AGM
Why do Penguin fans keep insisting that Detroit wants/needs Pettersson? The LAST thing they'll take is a LD with any kind of term because their system is LOADED with LD on the edge of being ready for the league. If they make a move it'll be a veteran LD on an expiring deal that they can easily trade before the deadline to recoup some/all of what they give up in assets.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>My thinking was that getting another "cheap vet" basically rolls out the same team you had this year - Ned didn't really look ready for prime time (.901/3.31 GAA/-11.0 GSAA in 52 starts) and Thomas Greiss was cooked (.891/3.66/-13.7 in 28 starts). I don't think Detroit is going to be in on the MAF/Kuemper/Campbell/Ville Husso tier of goalies and it gets very bleak, very quick after that - we're talking the Martin Jones/Kevin Lankinen tier of dudes who struggled to get to .900.
Varlamov is much better than anyone outside that second tier (and arguably produces similar to the guys in the 1st tier) and there's something to be said for having competent goaltending, even if you're not really planning on contending. Giving up that late 2nd from St. Louis isn't a crazy price to pay for the opportunity to tighten up in net with a guy who won't be standing in the way of Cossa when he's ready, but again, to each their own on that. Varlamov will get that kind of return from some other team that misses out on their UFA goalie very easily.</div></div>
If Varlamov gets the Isles a 2nd without eating salary and/or giving up another asset I will come back here and tell you I was wrong. I just don't see anybody in the league jumping to get Varly for that salary unless it's team like Arizona that has multiple reasons in that 1)They need a starter 2)They probably need a couple of these type of contracts to get floor compliant. Detroit is in a similar boat as of right now as far as the floor but I wouldn't be surprised to see them re-sign Hellberg (who they auditioned at the end of last season) or go with KHL vet Olkinuora (who they just signed) or 25 year old Vic Brattstrom, who they also just brought back on a minimal deal and showed promise with Grand Rapids last season. SY has to get a LH defenseman before he deals for a backup goalie and loses a pick. I think SY is more likely to trade an asset in order to get a veteran LH shot with a year or two left on a higher paying deal, but with gas left in the tank.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>Varly's not a cap dump, though - I can understand if you think Detroit doesn't need goaltending help, but even in a year where he was coming off surgery with a short offseason and no preseason, he still had above-average numbers (.911 SV%, 2.91 GAA, 4.0 GSAA) in his 29 starts. Colorado just traded a solid D prospect, a 1st, and a 3rd for Darcy Kuemper last summer when he was coming off a year with worse numbers, so there's a very recent trade you can point to and show what Varlamov can bring back in a deal. The UFA goalie class falls of a cliff real fast after MAF/Kuemper/Campbell so someone in need of a solid starter/1B will pony up good value if the Isles make Varly available.</div></div>
Varlamov doen't fit in Detroit at all in the first place and there's no way SY goes for it unless Detroit is GETTING something else. Varlamov IS a cap dump to Detroit. They don't NEED a #1 like Colorado did so your comparison is moot as they already have their starter for now/future in Nedeljkovic. They will likely get a cheap vet to back him up until Sebastian Cossa is ready for the big time. I just don't think this is at all realistic because Detroit will not be interested.

Detroit won't touch Varlamov and his salary if they give up anything, let alone a 2nd. Now if you'd have said that Detroit would GET a 2nd in the deal for taking Varlamov and the Islanders would get a 4th or 5th that might be a possibility. SY is not going to take on your 5 million and lose an asset and it's doubtful Varlamov would even approve the deal in the first place. It's just never going to happen.

Im Dumb in Detroit
Holland will be lucky to give Kassian away without eating salary and that's the whole point of trading him. Detroit is one of the few teams that can take his entire salary but Edmonton isn't going to get much at all for him and they certainly won't get anywhere NEAR a 2nd. As for your "one big mess" comment that's just trolling. If you actually look at what is being exchanged Arizona is getting top value and a haul of exactly what they're looking for... 2 young defensemen (drafted 60 and 70 overall) already a couple of years into their development, a serviceable body signed to a reasonable deal in Erne (they have a ton of roster space to fill at forward) and as for the picks Detroit is giving up 2 previously acquired picks in the 22 draft (Wash 2nd/LA 7th) and getting back a 5th. In 23 they give up 2 of their own picks (1st/6th) while getting back a 3rd and 4th.
To sum it up, Detroit gets a premium left D signed to an excellent contract, Arizona gets a premium haul of assets and you grade the deal as "one big mess." Not exactly a deep intellectual response to a very legitimate trade package.

So an excellent young center prospect in Veleno, 2 1sts, a 2nd, 2 solid defense prospects, a near-equal goalie prospect and two weeks of exclusive negotiations with another prospect goalie along with one year of Nielsen's contract for Eichel and a 7th round goalie and you're still saying no. I think you're crazy and if Detroit actually offered this to Buffalo Eichel would be a RW in about 7 seconds. And the 41 game provision protects Detroit's 24 pick.

You don't give away 2nds for free and 22 is a stacked draft.
