Extend Slafkovsky this offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Pretty sure no one laughs (except for those of us reading you post).
37 YO Crosby isn't laughing at a contract that doesn't see him take a payout and extends him until retirement.
Dubas doesn't laugh at 2 1st round picks for a 37 YO Letang singed until he retires.
Letang doesn't laugh at playing for his hometown team with his buddy Crosby for their final 3 years.
Montreal doesn't laugh at getting 3 top players and contending for the cup over the next 3 years.
Habs fans don't laugh at getting 3 star players (even if 2 are aging) and competing for a cup for the next 3 years.
Yup pretty sure the only ones laughing are those of us laughing at your comment.</div></div>
-oooooh boooooooy. so letang has a full NMC so he has the power to say no to such a trade. 99% sure he will be the one to veto the trade.
-dubas would be chased out of town for moving letang or malkin, espcially when both are still playing well (though not at the height of their powers)
-if kyle dubas even wanted to move a defenseman hed probably move erik karlsson, not the guy who has won 3 championships and played his entire career in pittsburgh
-jake guentzel is more than likely going to be under contract with a different team in a championship window.
-lets just pretend for the moment that youre right to assume that crosby wants out of pittsburgh. his first choice is to play in colorado with his best friend nathan mackinnon.

Karlsson
So the pens take ALL of the risk here?
Karlsson is still a top pairing d. only signed for a few years.
Jarry is still a high end starting goalie on a fair contract.
Kori is a cap dump. Bran is a third pairing d. and Norris is already on his third shoulder injury to the same shoulder and signed for nearly another decade at a high cap hit.
I can't see any reason whatsoever for the pens to take this deal.

I think that it would be a mistake to give up on Ryan Graves just because it's taken him a year to settle in.
You're short on 6 of the 8 RFAs, but even if you don't move Smith and Graves out you'll have enough to re-sign them.

I like a lot of these moves. I feel like we need more talent at center as well. But these things come first.

(PIT/CAR) - Guentzel, Smith for Bunting, Koivunen, Ponomarev, Lucius, 2024 2nd (PHI), 2024 5th (CAR)
Wow. This is an absolute fleece job by Carolina. I like Koivunen a lot, Lucius is solid, and Ponomarev is alright, but this is Jake freakin' Guentzel we are talking about. Pittsburgh doesnt even get a 1st unless Carolina makes the SCF. Feels like Dubas could've done so much better, guys like Morrow or Blake or Nadeau would've been far more fair.
For Carolina, this is the superstar they have long wanted. Guentzel is one of the best wingers in this league, and they didnt even have to give up any of their best prospects to get him. Excellent addition and he will thrive in Carolina.
For Pittsburgh, I already mentioned I really like Koivunen and I think Bunting next to Crosby will be very fun, but man this is underwhelming. I doubt Ponomarev or Lucius become much more than bottom 6ers, and they arent really guys you want to kick off your rebuild. This is going to be a tough pill to shallow for Pens fans who rightfully expected much more for a guy who gave his all to the organization for years.
The real winners here are NHL fans who are thrilled Vegas didnt land Guentzel. Heres to hoping they strike out on Buchnevich as well!

Devils
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>Personally I'd consider this deal. I think Meier just isn't fitting with NJ. A player like that doesn't just hit the wall as hard as he did at 27 years old. It's clearly a system thing. He's also been battling injury issues.</div></div>
I’ve never disliked Meier, but his production as a Devil while playing alongside great players is worrisome. I’m not saying that he won’t bounce back in some capacity, he’s a good player, but could his lack of production just be because he doesn’t have the reins on a bad team like he did in SJ? Similar situation that got Karlsson 100 points. Speaking of which, Karlsson has been much better for us than most of the fan base gives him credit for. His analytics have been very solid offensively. While I think PIT will probably have to add a big name scorer if Guentzel is dealt, they would be able to do so without moving Karlsson.
Personally, I’d much rather take a shot on Laine. Sid would unquestionably bring the best out of him. I could definitely see 40+ goals from him if he’s getting fed by Sid. His 2 years left on his contract is far less of a risk as well.

Your dad just made the only trade on this website in the past week that is not just paying fair value for Saros, but that is overpaying for him.
TOR fans on here would attempt to outbid this offer by offering up Jarnkrok, Robertson, Kampf, Abruzzese, Brodie, and a 3rd.

Another Take On Next Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>edeangel84</b></div><div>Weird take to be defending Rakell and maybe an even weirder take to say we are too harsh on a team full of underachieving players. Without 87 this team is absolutely dreadful and drafting in the top 10 easily, maybe top 5.</div></div>
Since coming back from injury hes been what we expected him to be to start the year, shouldn’t just say hes garbage when all players go through hard times throughout a season. I mean it’s literally just the PP and most of the players point productions that have gone dry are products of an abysmal PP. and yeah they should do something about it, but at this point its obvious they wont.

Why are we so keen to move rakell, he started bad but since coming back hes got 6G-13A-19P in 26 games, very solid numbers, people are really too hard on anyone not named Crosby on this pens team.

I'd say the biggest issue was the stupidity of radically changing the blue line to add size, age, cost at the expense of speed and skill. Almost always a bad idea and I wonder how much Burke played a role in that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>"AT LEAST" middle line. All futures are based on potential and Perreault is a high floor and high ceiling potential. Thinking you're getting three+ prime future assets is unprecedented for a rental. What comparable rental trade are you using as a standard? Friedman explicitly said Dubas is expecting a Giroux level return which was a late 1st, good- not great- prospect, and offsetting cap hit roster player. Your expectations for trading a rental are warped. Now if it were a sign and trade that would be a different matter, but that isn't being discussed at this time.</div></div>
Dude, crappy rentals go for 1st round picks all the time lmfao. Lindholm was just traded for a HAUL (after the mid season he was having) and he might not even extend with the Nucks.
Do you seriously expect Dubas to sell one of his best assets, a top line ppg winger WITH retention, for 1 singular B tier prospect in a 1 for 1? Be so for real right now lmao
