Just to inform you that Tanev is out for the first half of the season.
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli

Pelletier - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic - Rooney - Dube

Weeger - Zadorov
Välimäki - Kylington
Markstrom - Vladar</div></div>
That was the fear but seems he is in regular practice & will be ready for start of the season?

Small Tweaks
Lundkvist just fetched a 1st + & is an unproven prospect a few years out from draft. Hanafin is not much older & established top 4 (borderline top 2). Smith at this point is middle of the pack 3rd liner & not a need on Calgary. Would need WAAAY more to make that trade.

No Team Can Beat this team
Confused, not worried about cap hit but not picking best lineup. D is ok but Tanev & Doughty today are not as strong as others (Makar, Hedman, etc). Got starting goalie right but Quick's not even guaranteed starter on his team. Forward group there is a TUN to be desired (Kopitar and/or Danault over MacKinnon, McDavid, and MANY others doesn't make sense).

trade to make cap room and signed 2 ufas
Looks like legit Edmonton moves.
Move out top 4 defender for aging D that is looking like top 6 these days. Actually Stralman would replace Keith, so would be effectively same D from last year minus Barrie. At forward move out flavor of the week depth signing from a couple years ago to bring in effectively same player at basicslly same cap hit. Shuffled deck chairs but actually made team worse so they could afford 7th D & 13th forwards?

NJ has cap space to spare, only trade that makes a difference cap wise, could scrap other 2 trades.

Bad agent for Yamamoto if he signs longer for less then Pul. Net of trades; 3 NHL bodies out, 5 in (but 3 are borderline NHLers). Minor cap savings & tun of future picks shipped out.

Make your best team and stay under the cap
Fun exercise. McDavid every day should be on team over Draissatl, can find other savings swapping Landeskog on 3rd line. Also bit of a reach to suggest Bouchard is one the 6 best D in league for under. Also if Marchand is out half season on LTIR do you get to go over cap to replace?

Pelletier is hot-housing in Flames system & came off a breakout rookie season in A. Potential is hi & cap hit is low, why would they trade him out for some else's cap relief? I would argue Flames package for Toffoli (late 1st in weak draft; fringe NHLer @ end of career w/ expiring contract & B prospect) is significantly less then Kylington (young, established top 4) & Pelletier (recent 1st round pick w/ solid trajectory). And w/ fit & contract situation considered, Toffoli is more valuable to Calgary then Anderson (especially w/ potential Lucic deal for last 2-3 years of Anderson). So Mtl would 1000x do trade but hard NO from Calgary every day of the week.

If that is true they should just keep him. After offseason for Flames, no pressure to get cap hit out at this time & really the real $$$ savings to Anaheim at this point should be more valuable to Anaheim. 3rd is too hi, if that doesn't get it done Brad should just hang up & move on.

No to sending Pelletier to Mtl. I wouldn't trade straight up Pelletier vs Anderson based on career paths & cap hits. Throw in Kylington has a tun of value right now and if he's in a move would be for getting value back. Like a quality 2C, maybe good 3C or get extra futures w/ cap space. Otherwise just keep him in the fold since Tanev will likely miss half the season.
Lucic is loved on city & locker room, if not needed they won't dump him on another team. Especially will not send if giving up assets. Lucic is only owed $1M to get a nice bump on cap hit for struggling financial team (ducks, also Arizona). If they want to gauge for him just keep him for last year contract.

No need to panic
Should ask for WAY more from St Louis. Tkachuk is a rare player, similar if just looking at points/age. Plus they likely need to dump Tarasenko or OReilly to make it work & could realistically ask for one of those too (maybe plus based on teams desire for 1 year rental).

Gaudreau Dubois Ceci Dubois
Every trade is getting sweetheart deal for Mtl & assuming more then 3 teams (Philly, maybe NJ & NYI) have a shot at Gaudreau. Even with all that considered, player in/out comparing start of 2021 season they are not significantly better (worse on defense, better on forward, significantly worse in goal). So if this all went perfectly they would have a bad team still? If trying to be bad why make soo many dramatic changes or bring in big FA?

No interest in Cgy giving up futures for a middle 6 forward right now. They are probably closer to trading away players for picks then being convinced of this trade.

Good luck signing Tkachuk to less the $9 M.
Looks like a team ready for a nice roller coaster year lead by two premadonnas that flake out in playoffs. Have fun buying those 2 former Flames out in 4 years.

It's not $$$ or chance to win. Literally going to sign whatever Philly puts in front of him. NY area & New Jersey have a bit of a chance...but honestly thats it (& really its just Philly in his mind). Don't hold out waiting on him to sign anywhere else, just look to take advantage of Flyers within $1M of offseason 10% over salary cap.

Johnny Comes Home
Looks like Gaudreau leaves money and year on table to put a transitioning team against the cap before they are ready. Defense is suspect & roster up to cap with limited experience/success in pressure games. Would also be interested how Hamilton/Gaudreau 2.0 would work (more success then falling out first time around).
Also realized resigning Severson who could sign anywhere...just to trade away immediately for a pick & prospect?

Johnny Hockey Wow
12M for max term is a huge number. Johnny would sign but not sure who NJ is bidding with. Only Philly (no cap space) & NJ are going to be desirable & sounds like Cgy going to offer 9.5 for 8 years. Feels like $11M, or maybe even 10.5 per could get it done & gets you 2 extra depth players. Also wondering how Johnny & Dougie on same team 2.0 will go, was a bit of turmoil last time around.

Oilers for the Cup
On brand for Oilers to look to supplement team with former Flames. Even if Edmonton got a $20M bonus for being inept, still minor improvement (less experienced) on bad defense & questionable if any improvement in net. Draisatl would probably hate this as he would no longer get 70+% of his points being a winger with McDavid.

Also, why is every Oiler one of these assuming Kassian has any value. Would have more value taking him out of ANY trade (including fleecing trade here). Every one of these trades is other team doing Oilers favor foe no reason (plus 1 illegal cap circumventing).

Pretty sure there is a rule that you have to wait some window (1 season?) before you can re-sign a player traded away + buyout. The team that buys out player can re-sign but thought if player traded then bought out during same off-season, some time had to pass before original owner of rights could resign (to avoid obvious cap circumvention).

Calgary Flames 5 of 32 Realistic
Why would Calgary have to give up a first for a team to pay $1M of real dollars to get nearly $6 M in cap hit. Enough cap strapped teams looking to spend less but still get to salary floor (see Dallas moving Bishop contract for a 7th round pick).
If it would actually take a 1st round pick, might as well just keep Lucic.

What a good laugh this one is.
Kassian (likely buyout candidate) & 3rd are negligible parts.
Take Kassian out (or eat half the salary) & switch 3rd for 1st & likely right return to get starting goalie & 30+ goal scorer.

fix the mess
First trade: Ottawa says no, maybe says no without throwing needing to throw in a 2nd round pick. Also doesn't make sense for Vegas to get rid of their most productive defenseman for a player they kinduv already have.
Second trade: would be brutal for Vegas long term. Giving up NHL caliber goalie & one of most productive veterans for Lawson Crouse? Considering they gave up Suzuki +hi picks to get Pacoretti seems like a MAJOR backwards move.
Third trade: not sure why Detroit would consider this trade at all, not looking for older/past prime forwards for nothing.
Forth trade: need to add A LOT more to make that reasonable for Chicago and is probably the worst of the bunch. Fleury + Lehner >> Lehner + Brossoit >> collection of goalies after above trades.
In general, don't think you are sending enough for any of the trades & think if all accepted team is even worse off then it is now. All that is gained is unrealistic 2nd round pick.

Eichel
Sorry but Buffalo was holding out on all other offers to send Eichel to a division rival for an overpaid 3rd liner (who was on waivers last year) + decent middle 6 forward + 2 x 1sts (Car likely late 1st rounder)
They are looking for good, young & really only Mtl 1st meets criteria. Try both 1sts & Caufield as a starting point & build from their...and don't expect a 3rd coming back either. Also, Eichel is probably out for half the year & this team would be terrible with Eichel & Weber out of the lineup. Just doesn't make sense short or mid term & don't see why Buffalo would want to accept this laughable offer.

Would accept Eichel trade from Cgy & likely best offer Buff will end up with. Hate losing Monahan but seems he is the likely chip moving. Dube, Zary & likely 1st from next year are all nice pieces but replaceable parts in short term & worth upgrading #1 C & get superstar in Eichel. Only concern is getting Monahan to buy in to trade (has 10 team no trade list).
