Room to Spare
Sound strategy.
If they can just trade garbage for hi quality and sign $1M players that will perform at allstar/superstar caliber they will have a great team.
...in reality they will sign previous Oilers and Flames and overpay a couple UFAs to play too hi in the lineup but put up points skating with McDavid but add nothing when games get harder.

OffseasonTkachuck Trade
First off, Calgary is not looking to trade Tkachuk. If team blows them away then maybe otherwise not worth the headache. Flames would take O'Reilly with some salary eaten, your 2021 1st & Neighbours as a starting point. Honestly doesnt make sense for either side to pry next Flames captain from team @ 23.

Just a thought
Do not mind this, likely gives Flames 2 top 5 picks to begin rebuild & getting Norris is nice addition. Other pieces are less desirable but decent comp.
After watching Matthew this year, not convinced this actually makes Ottawa better but would be more of a nostalgia move. $15M on 2 players that can play hard nosed but A) are not very fast and B) dissapear when intensity of games increase would be a concern but looks great for Ottawa on paper.

Disagree. Bennett is checked out and Backlund better days are behind him. Get a center that can win faceoffs and gain a blueline too.

Good bad and the ugly
If you swapped Hall + Eichel for Gadreau & Monahan, maybe as much of issue defensively as now. However hi end ability is better and may have top line with some energy against Oilers. Giordano is a shell of his former self now, imagine next year will be even worse. Looking at history of Benning trades actually think value is correct. Maybe a meaningless draft pick to Vancouver but already eating difference of salaries. Backlund is < based on age only, but NOT << Gaudet and you are watching a different game if you think thats true.
If you think above makes Flames worse, A) you haven't watched how poor this team has played since start of March 2019 (currently 2 more losses then wins in ~150 games, 3 total playoff wins out of 11 games). B) it will either make them better or worse. Either way is better result long term then being middle of the pack s is case for last 3 decades (1 miracle playoff run not withstanding). Takes a shot at actually having superstar talent on a team.

They can have whoever, guess Giordano could go there. Or maybe Kylington or whatever goalie they sign to be compliant.
Note: if above trades happen, not a tun of options to get quality from this team for Seattle.

Kane to CBJ Thoughts
Sorry is this another Hossa "skin condition" situation for Seabrook. Wanting to put a bad contract on LTIR and legitimately putting on LTIR are 2 completely different things. If this is valid all teams should essentially get a pass on terrible anchor contracts because...reasons.

Gaudreau
Hanifin = Carlo is fair but think Calgary is only considering offers to improve team for Hanafin.
2nd pair winger, B prospect and 1 + 2 round pick is going rate for Gaudreau if trading at trade dealine or maybe next off-season if needed.
From both ends could have seen this trade making sense for Calgary earlier in the summer but with most free agents gone does not make sense to decrease hi end skill this much with no reinforcements coming.

Bye Andersen Engvall
How does Arizona take on Anderson contract. They are having issues paying current team that is right up at salary cap, and only looking to trade Kuemper in offloading trade, not to take on more salary.

Want to see laine with Connor
Combination of moves eliminates Edmonton's prospect depth, NHL depth, removes a 1st round pick and ages it's top 6 D. Also probably has small gains on top 6 scoring (by far not the teams biggest need).
Trading 3 young pieces for Laine a) would possibly not be enough to get it done, and b) not be smart for Edmonton to pursue and will likely look like a Hall for Larsson trade 5 years out (especially if Laine wants $10M plus next season and team has to let core pieces walk away to keep him in the mix).

basically same team with better goalie
100% agreed but would follow formula of this team since 1990 with this team.
Good enough to not draft hi, but never all in to winning. To this moment still nothing indicating any changes are coming.

Getting Hall Zadorov
IF Hall signs short term, it will be for more then $5M and probably with up and coming team like Colorado. Cgy needs more for Hanafin, probably higher pick then a 5th rounder.
All these moves seem unlikely and seem to be lateral changes to make changes.

M.Tkachuk for Hartman then</div></div>
Did have tope 6 C who is good for 40+ pts, 20 G & strong defensively. But instead, I changed for 3C & a bunch of futures, just sounded like MIN is looking for a top 6 F for Dumba

never in a million years is Cgy trading 1st for $7 M goalie that is 35+. Vegas takes contract back & keeps Glass as a min, otherwise return from Cgy should be a 4th...at best

Gaudreau to philly
Take some of Gostisbeher's contract and a 1st rnd pick instead of 4th round pick and fair. Otherwise Cgy says no 100 of 100 times and will hang on to the better player.

Built to Win
I will concede Eichel is low and I have revised trade to 2 1st round picks, a 23 yr top 4 D with 400 games, young top line C w/ 30 goal consistency.
On the flip side, the Gaudreau trade is under valued and I am not changing this one. They are one of 5 teams that he could sign with, but would need extra bump by having him play for 2 years to outbid Philly/NYR or maybe even Islanders or Washington when UFA. And he would immediately fill in where Hall was for good salary cap value to keep young offense progressing.
Reports are a few teams have already balked at offering much less then a top 6 C for Laine, so I could maybe play around with that a bit but we will see if he even moves. He should be worth more but I will just pull this trade out.
Ceci is a quality RD when utilized on a structured team. He should never be in a top 4 again or take on massive lifting for the D but as a 5/6 right shot there are much worse options.
For Lucic trade, gets a warm body to eat up cap space without actually paying a lot of real dollars and pick up an extra 1st rounder. I know Calgary doesn't believe in offering 1st rounders which is why this would never happen but if they ever offered this it would get taken in a heartbeat. If I was Ottawa, I may consider buying him out to reduce the actual dollars more while still keep cap floor at bay for a couple years.
I don't think anyone here has great knowledge to what players are going to sign for this year, for Markstrom. I heard over radio recent reports are Lehner is nearing $5 for 5 years w/ Vegas, so if that is this years market value based on flat cap then I wouldn't pay too much more for Markstrom. Don't think Vancouver would match similar either, and if in bidding war Cgy would have a little more cap room to play with. I bumped value and term but any more might as well go after Lehner who is better goalie.

What Johnny Gaudreau is worth?
Team is quickly becoming Thachuk's team and Gaudreau is likely the casualty when both need new contracts in a couple years. That said, make no mistake he is skill wise the most talented flame for a generation & is an elite player that 30 other GMs would love to pick up.
If done this summer or early next year, I would see Matt Duchene as a very realistic comparable for: A-age when traded, B-production in the league, C-success (limited) in playoffs, D-world stage pedigree (allstar & internationaly events). Not sure any teams want to team up for a three team swap, that said I could see Gaudreau possibly having more cache around the league then Duchene did.
what Colorado got:
throw in pieces:
-boarderline AHL/backup goalie
-1 C prospect (fringe NHL, AHL only prospect)
-3rd round pick (within 2 years of trade)
Must haves:
-2 B prospect (1 recent late round 1, 1 recent mid-round 2)
-1st + 2nd (current year or 1 year after trade)
Fine if they don't bother with any of the throw in pieces to make deal happen and get better quality back, and would work to replace 2 B prospects with 1 decent NHLer that is still young or hi impact under decent term. Based on assessment 2 1st rounders (not protected) + a second and a good top 6 (or young top 4) would work.
DO NOT just give him away to make a trade though. If GMs don't want to add a consistent top scorer then that is their loss and figure out the financials of fitting him in later down the road.
