If Laughton fetches that price the leafs oughta stay away, I like adding Dumba though if teams value Robertson enough that could make sense

For me he has just been unnoticeable other than on 5-6 plays all year and unfortunately only 1-2 of those have been good plays, that being said he has been better recently and may take advantage of a fresh start with Keefe just like Barrie has

But if they are trying to save the season and make a run to, or even better, in the playoffs they need the best roster available, who cares if three years from now they have to pay Sandin, as long as they make a push while they have Barrie and Muzzin among others

For who ever thinks marleau wont be moved
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>the leafs can afford tavares the big three and marleau as you posted here, as I have read your previous posts. not everyone says the leafs can't afford tavares, it was the other factors in the line up that were so wrong, the fear, warranted or not is there no freedom in the cap room in case some of the young players on cheap contracts don't pan out and then there is no cap to bring in a needed veteran. the lineup does look pretty accurate for leafs in 2019.</div></div>
Thats fair, yes it does put them right against the cap i just feel people missed the point in my previous post and were more concentrated on marleau than JT so wanted to show it is tight but not impossible, thanks for replying

Fair.. ill agree with that, but if he doesnt retire i made another armchair gm that is kind of a plan B that we keep marleau, marner, nylander, mathews and still get tavares

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Ozhiganov especially would get a lot more if he's an NHLer because he just one year away from being a UFA next summer. And I doubt if Borgman could be signed so cheap if he's an NHLer.
But you premise of the cap is incorrect, the Leafs don't that much money to spend on UFAs in 2018/19 if they don't want any Performance Bonus carryover, which is important when the Leafs have an expensive 2019/20 roster
And this trading of NMC Marleau to be a bottom feeder is nonsense. Really, cmon why does Marleau approve get traded to Arizona ? So Leaf fans can get another 6.25m to spend in 2019/20 is the only reason.</div></div>
1 marleaus contract is structured to have huge cap hit with little real dollars in the third year, so whether he retires of his contract is traded to a cap floor team doesnt matter, they are clearly doing something with that contract
2. If ozhiganov is worth more than i guess they wont be able to sign him, instead play liljegren and sign a spare d

Leafs don't need to and won't need to trade him if they make the right moves.</div></div>
Ok, so they keep him, dont sign de haan and then get a 7th d-man to play in the top four instead hence make our deffence way weaker in order to keep marleau, that is not impossible and would still be a good team but this way makes more sense

Might has well say, Crosby gets traded to the Leafs for a 7th rounder, because that is what Crosby wants.</div></div>
Read the description, he doesnt need to go to arizona, they can find a trade partner elsewhere

You've overspend with DeHaan and Tavares in 2018/19 if you want no carryover bonuses into 2019/20,. Why spend that much money and term on DeHaan anyway, he's not needed. Then this fantasy that many Leafs fans have that Marleau and his 6.25m cap is going to disappear. You've squeezed Borgman and Ozhiganov is they are NHLer on 3 year 1.25m contract.
Really the cap doesn't work.</div></div>
If de-haan comes cheaper that works even better and i dont understand, are you saying borgman amd ozhiganov are not nhlers or that they would cost more?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>sorry if you don't follow the leafs. since Babcock likes balanced lines, there room for grundstrom and to get good minutes. Hyman came in as rookie and got good minutes with Matthews, there isn't any reason a two year veteran of the SHL and AHL doesn't warrant quality minutes . don't know why you think aaltonen and lindholm play wing they are centres and as you suggest the leafs have lots of wingers. sure wish the supporters of tanev could trade him to any other team but the leafs, but the reason is clear, there is any other team that really wants him? No since canucks fans think he is a # 1.</div></div>
Actually since i do follow the leafs i know that babcock likes having two guys with center experience on every line, hence lindholm playing center with aaltonen as his wing each take draws on their strong side. And as for tanev im sorry if you dont understand what defence is

to call grundstrom a b level prospect, sorry you don't the leafs. he's a starter next year on the leafs especially with jvr and komarov gone plus you want brown and 1st rounder to be added for a two year rental, when he's healthy. i know it's all subjective what tanev is worth but almost all trades of rhd especially to the leafs are seriously to high,</div></div>
Fine dont call him top pair but regardless he would be best d on our right side and play next to our best left d (rielly) (normally people call that a top pair) , and grundstrom is definetly a B level prospect at best... Marner and Nylander two years ago were A level, matthews A+, so unless u are blind enough to think he is on that level he is B, also How can grundstrom start.. you have hyman, marleau, johnsson, martin, and maybe lindholm or aaltonen if they play wing (one of them will) All above him on the depth charts. None of this is to say grundstrom isnt good but worth too much to trade, nah</div></div>
