You've proofed why it is impossible to sign Tavares with that lineup. You've overspend with DeHaan and Tavares in 2018/19 if you want no carryover bonuses into 2019/20,. Why spend that much money and term on DeHaan anyway, he's not needed. Then this fantasy that many Leafs fans have that Marleau and his 6.25m cap is going to disappear. You've squeezed Borgman and Ozhiganov is they are NHLer on 3 year 1.25m contract.
Really the cap doesn't work.

If de-haan comes cheaper that works even better and i dont understand, are you saying borgman amd ozhiganov are not nhlers or that they would cost more?

I disagree, the way his contract is structures looks like he might have already agreed to have last year of contract mobed to a team that needs to hit the cap floor

Why would he leave from the great situation in Toronto to go to a bottom feeder team? Arizona will not need help with the cap because of OEL's extension.

Ozhiganov especially would get a lot more if he's an NHLer because he just one year away from being a UFA next summer. And I doubt if Borgman could be signed so cheap if he's an NHLer.
But you premise of the cap is incorrect, the Leafs don't that much money to spend on UFAs in 2018/19 if they don't want any Performance Bonus carryover, which is important when the Leafs have an expensive 2019/20 roster
And this trading of NMC Marleau to be a bottom feeder is nonsense. Really, cmon why does Marleau approve get traded to Arizona ? So Leaf fans can get another 6.25m to spend in 2019/20 is the only reason.

Marleau is a 25-30 goal scorer, forechecks well, is very fast and offers huge value as a veteran presence on the team. He's worth 6.25 and will stay in the top 6 until he retires after they win the cup or when his contract runs out. Leafs don't need to and won't need to trade him if they make the right moves.

Arizona does not need to hit the cap floor, but that reason no consequence. Marleau is 99% sure he wants to play his last NHL season with a contender (the Leafs). His NMC guarantees he doesn't get traded to a poor team.
Might has well say, Crosby gets traded to the Leafs for a 7th rounder, because that is what Crosby wants.

Read the description, he doesnt need to go to arizona, they can find a trade partner elsewhere

Ok, so they keep him, dont sign de haan and then get a 7th d-man to play in the top four instead hence make our deffence way weaker in order to keep marleau, that is not impossible and would still be a good team but this way makes more sense

There are few teams that would have the cap space of 6.25m. There are even fewer teams that Marleau would be willing to go to. Yes, I read our description "He can go anywhere". which is just false. You just don't appreciate the value that Marleau has a NMC. Sorry those of kinda the rules of a building a team, but if really think the Leafs can manufacture 6.25, cap relief, great.

1 marleaus contract is structured to have huge cap hit with little real dollars in the third year, so whether he retires of his contract is traded to a cap floor team doesnt matter, they are clearly doing something with that contract
2. If ozhiganov is worth more than i guess they wont be able to sign him, instead play liljegren and sign a spare d

De Haan isn't overly good. He's just okay. Get Tanev from Vancouver, he's better.

Sorry, the only way Marleau and his contract and is contract is traded is IF he retires, and I'll agree a team with cap space with take it, Leafs would add the sweetener though. But if Marleau want to continue to play, he's a Leaf and not anything that a Leaf FANATIC can do about it.

No team is going to take that contract. Also if he retires, Toronto is still hit with the cap because of the 35+ contract.

I mean a hypothetical cap floor team takes his contract then he retires and they hit the cap floor... but i kust posted a new one for everyone that thinks marleau is not moveable.. i dont like it as much but getting tavares is still do-able

Fair.. ill agree with that, but if he doesnt retire i made another armchair gm that is kind of a plan B that we keep marleau, marner, nylander, mathews and still get tavares
