If I am the Sabre's GM, I would give you a third for Barrie and be very happy getting one of best offensive D-men in the NHL.

This is all for fun, we do not know all of the details behind the decisions that GM's and owners finally make.
Do I expect any of these trades to take place, of course not, I seriously doubt that ALL of the Sabre's UFA's will be traded.
I think the Sabres will try to retain Pysyk and Hinostroza as well as Hagg.

I would build our defense around Dahlin and Power for the next 10-15 years, adding to them guys who can be physical and mobile. and I hope Adams does just that.</div></div> Did I not say the same thing?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fjordy</b></div><div>gretzkyghosts
Guys, you can't even see Adams trying to develop this team. He absolutely does not chase the Cup, he is not in a hurry with the development of prospects, he does not trade our prospects and picks. Olofsson looks solid at RW, so I don't even understand what is the point of this deal, especially since Olofsson already has chemistry with this core. Mantha is also a good player, but he will not make this team better and he is no better than Olofsson, who by the way is progressing noticeably and began to play better at ES. Also, you are not trading #1 guy you picked last season who looks very promising. At the same time, I was not at all sold to Dumba, which will soon become UFA.</div></div> I think the rebuild is over.
The Sabres will be trying to make the playoffs next year.
Tuch, Power, Samuelsson, Laaksonen, Luukkonen, Subban, Quinn, and Krebs will replace Hinostroza, Hagg, Bryson, Miller, Anderson, Tokarski, Hayden, and Eakin respectively.
Hinostroza, Hagg and Miller are decent NHL players and will return decent picks at the TDL the 8 new players will give the team solid depth.
If Buffalo could sign a good RHD, it will be in the playoffs.
While they suffered through a 9 game stretch where they gave up 44 goals, the rest of the season has been very good 10-8-2 or 90 pts over 82 games.
With Mittelstadt and those 8 new players in the line up IMO will easily produce an additional 10 pts or 100 total pts and the playoffs.

He let Larsson walk and signed Eakin.
At least Karmanos knows how to pick the inexpensive UFA's and signed Pysyk, Jankowski, Anderson, Hinostroza, Davidson and Hayden.
The first two former first round picks and the last 3 with a connection to Granato.
Passing over Pysyk last year when the team wanted to compete was a huge error.

IMO both Mantha and Dumba would get contracts around $7,000,000 and Dumba maybe as much as much Seth Jones.
Just consider:
Mantha balances RW with LW, three good LW with three good RW.
Dumba balances the LHD with RHD.
Both Dumba and Mantha are noted for their physical play, which the Sabres lack.
When Anderson or Luukkonen are between the pipes the Sabres record is 6-4-1 over 82 games 97 pts.
Adding Tuch, Dumba, Krebs, Quinn, Mittelstadt (only played 4 games this year) and Samuelsson IMO would improve that significantly.
Finally, I said a run at the cup, which is another way of saying making the playoffs.
Let me close, I love Cozens and Olofsson, but Buffalo needs RHD and RW, these trades do that.
I will admit we could balance LW/RW by moving Thompson, to RW, Mittelstadt to center and Olofsson to the top 6, that does not solve the Sabres' need for more grit.
So maybe I drop the trades and offer Letang $9,000,000 for 6 years.
I am not expecting you to change your mind, just some information to consider.

The return could more or less depending on the market and value at the TDL
Eakin is winning about 58% of his face offs,
Hagg is playing a solid very physical defense
Hinostroza is on pace to 40 pts
Miller is on pace to 35 pts.
They all have value, but maybe a team could get a better player at a higher price, IDK.
I hope this makes sense.

Tuch > Compher compare their careers to date games 255 goals 61 pts 139 v games 283 goals 58 pts 118
Vegas 2022 first > Colorado 2023 first
Krebs Center 17th OA 2019 = Olausson LW 28th OA 2021
Vegas 2023 2nd minus Buffalo's 2023 third < Helleson RD 47th OA 2019
Less than Eichel but darn close
Imagine if Colorado had offered 2 firsts, Krebs, Olausson, Helleson and Compher for Jack, there would be dancing in the streets.
Three prospects (center, LW, RHD), NHL RW who PK's and two first round picks.
No this trade would never happen.

The Sabres finished the season 9-11-2 45% v 6-23-5 25% through the first 34 games.
I like the UFA's we signed.
I wanted Pysyk last year, getting Hinostroza was huge and Keeping Caggiula was a smart move.
I also like that there are not any first year players on the opening night roster, they were all sent to Rochester to grow and start in a winning atmosphere.
I am hoping butcher can produce in Buffalo as he did in NJ, Skinner will get 30 goals, Mittelstadt will reach 70 pts, Thompson will get 20 goals, and Cozens will look like a #1 center.
On the other hand.
I thought the 2017-'18 Sabres were going to be much better.
The 2016-'17 Sabres defense was terrible, Franson, Gorges, Bogosian, Falk, and Kulikov all played 45 games or more.
Two years later all but Bogosian and Kulikov are out of the NHL.
The following year we add Scandella, Beaulieu, to the defense while Pominville, Scandella, Wilson and Nolan all had Stanley Cup experience were also added.
The '16-'17 team did not have any secondary scoring Pominville and Pouliot added 16 and 13 goals respectively, not great but better than the previous year.
Let me add, the Hockey Writers predicted the Sabres would end their playoff drought, so I was not the only one excited about the changes.
So what happens the team goes from 78 pts to 62 and last place overall, 16 pts worse instead of 16 pts better.
I know I am getting long winded, I am excited about the future.
Power, Samuelsson, Bryson, Johnson, Laaksonen on defense, Quinn, Peterka, Rosen, Pekar, Murray, Weissbach up front and UPL, Levi and Portillo net minders.
But 7 years ago ESPN had 8 Sabre prospects ranked among the top 100 NHL prospects.
Reinhart was the highest rated at # 7 and McCabe was the last at 72nd.
I was super excited about the future, it looked really bright.
The other five were Possler (69th), Armia (60th), Compher (51st), Fasching (44th) Zadorov (21st), Grigorenko (17th)
NONE of them are on the team but all but Grigorenko, Possler and Fasching are in the NHL now.
Here is the complete list: https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/2dd2uj/espns_top_100_prospects_insider_only_list_in/
BTW Gaudreau was ranked 42nd.

Nice job.
That Mittelstadt line played well in the last preseason game, and Mittelstadt was one of the best forwards the last 22 games of last season.
I think Hinostroza will do well in Buffalo, IMO that shows how weak our RW will be if he is on the first line.
The fourth line will keep most teams in their defensive zone as all of them are really strong along the boards.
Bryson can skate really well I would have him in the line up over Hagg as you do, but I think we will see more of Butcher than Hagg..
I have this dream that Butcher, Hagg, Pysyk Miller and Hinostroza are doing really well at the TDL and Karmanos is able to flip each of them for second round picks.
No matter how well the defense or forwards play, the GK are all ordinary and will not win many games on their own.

We'll need the cap space. <strong>I really liked Scandella and was really disappointed when Botterill only received a 4th when STL gave up a second later on. Everybody knows Buffalo intends to sell any pending UFA contract that somebody wants, but they also have to take on payroll so they never drop below the salary floor. Honestly it would actually make sense for them to take on more salary in an Eichel trade than they give up. <strong>I sure hope Karmanos does a better job this TDL than Adams did last year. Two interesting trades I saw today
Thank you all for your comments.
It is obvious that I posted these trades as they would make Buffalo a whole lot better while only trading away Jack and Kyle.
I did not put Power into the line up but that defense is significantly better than last year.
Murray in net the GAA average could go down by as much as 0.5 g/m
While the NYR trade is close, remove the 2022 2nd and the 2023 first and it is closer, the Ottawa trade is just silly.
A two time Stanley cup GK for a 2 goal/yr forward.
Since both of the trades were made today, I wanted to combine them and show Sabre team that may not make the playoffs but one that would make a lot of noise in the Atlantic.

Eichel to the flames Monahan to the Bruins Olofsson to the Leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caillou_is_hot69</b></div><div>i would love olofsson on the leafs but i dont think it will happen, i feel like eichel will go to the rangers, and sean monahan to wild</div></div> You may very well be correct.
TBH, I wish it would happen in the manner that I described above.
Two 2022 firsts, a young NHL RW, a decent center prospect, an underachieving LW and a third.
I would imagine the best offer from the Rangers would be:
Strome, Kakko, Lundkvist and first.
That is not as much as Calgary could offer.

Team should trade for Jack Trades are for demonstration not value value
Thank you all for your comments.
The purpose of this post was to point out how many teams may want Eichel.
I was lazy and could have included Vegas, Ottawa, and maybe Seattle.
I do not think LA, ANA, MIN have the team to go after Eichel.
Regardless, since there were not any strong objections to the concept of these four team possible perusing Eichel I will presume it is possible they all may have a strong interest.
That being the case, there may be decent bidding completion among several teams.

Jack to the Rangers
Thank you all for your comments.
As usual these are all fantasy trades.
My goal was to try to get as many first round picks next year.
If the Sabres were to draft well, maybe 2 to 4 of them would be ready in 3 years when most of the high cost low return contracts were over.
I noticed <a href="/users/ON3M4N" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@ON3M4N</a> does not like the Strome trade and <a href="/users/CD282" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@CD282</a> is absolutely reviled with the Koskinen trade.
NP, only a fun site to pretend we are actual NHL GM's.
It would be nice if we actually had the data base that they did?
Regardless, maybe the trades need a little tweaking or twerking and maybe Olofsson could be moved if Buffalo thought DeBrusk could net 15 or more goals.
I hope Buffalo can make more trades as the Butcher one and get a serviceable player and a pick as well.
More direct comments below.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_Gardoki</b></div><div>I'd be surprised if the Rangers said no to that.</div></div> Yes I have seen similar trade posted, I agree it is most likely what will be in any package for Eichel. Young roster player with a good ceiling, another roster player to balance the cap, a couple of picks and maybe another roster player. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dmaz026</b></div><div>Gonna have to say every team probably declines. If that's what the NYR offered the trade would've been done a long time ago.</div></div> Well maybe this is the offer and Karmanos is trying to tie up the other pieces to the trade. Move Strome, Georgiev and the second round pick. This is a quiet time in the NHL, the last trade was in July. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>Drop the 2nds from the EDM and Boston trade. Koskinen would be a cap dump that gets waived halfway through the season for UPL and Strome is a lot better than DeBrusk, even if Strome has been carried</div></div> I agree with you completely. I added the seconds to make the trades more equitable to contributors from other teams and you can see how that went. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zmach</b></div><div>The problem is georgiev doesnt have a contract in 22-23 edmonton needs a goalie with money retained in that time frame.</div></div> Great feed back. Do you think Holland would make a similar deal if he wanted to move Kassian? Maybe a LHD, or Eakin and a second for the 2022 first? Let's face it $3,000,000 for 2 goals for the next three year. Who wants that contract holding down the team? <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cooliny</b></div><div>canucks accept</div></div> I know I have seen many posts as this one.
Myers is not terrible just over paid by at least $2,000,000/yr. BTW IYO could Vancouver use a LHD.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MooseOtter</b></div><div>This is honestly fair value for an Eichel trade at this point. Still don't think the Rangers should do it but the value is fair</div></div> Thank you for your input. You may be correct. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>It was going so well, then you traded for tyler myers. No, no, a thousand times no.</div></div> You may be correct, but if he is bad, then he will help the Sabres to do poorly. If he is merely over paid getting a first is a great deal, as the Sabres could retain his salary to collect more assets.
Either way it is a win and the Sabres get a first round pick this year.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>Myers, for me, would cost 3 firsts. I figure its 5 million or so for a first, and myers who is awful, is owed 18 million. If it was for just this year, maybe, its gonna be a tire fire anyways, but i have no interest in bringing him on, especially since our right side is weak, i worry that they might just try to let him earn his money for 3 years, and i aint risking it for one lousy mid first.</div></div> You do know his 6 goals would have led the Sabres last year and his 21 pts were only 2 behind Dahlin.
Regardless, read my comment above. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Edmonton's not coughing up a 1st to downgrade their goaltending, despite the cap savings.</div></div> OK good point. Read above, how about Kassian for a similar deal above? <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>You can keep Strome</div></div> OK fair enough.
Just IMO, I think he would do as well with Hall as he did with Panarin.
But you know your Bruins better than I.
I think I will put to bed my dream of 6 (or even 7 if the Sabres could find the right buyer for Olofsson after DeBrusk is a Sabre) first round draft picks next year.
But that would be a really interesting draft.
If they had even 4 first round picks I would go to Montreal to watch it live.
I chatted with Mark Gandler, the year the draft was in Buffalo.
He was a very engaging individual willing to express his views and listen to a know nothing talk.
Oh BTW, I got an autograph photo of Wayne Gretzky as well, so it was quite and event for me.
He was an amazingly humble individual.
