<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UnrealDeal14</b></div><div>Outside of Filip Forsberg what would be a better return for Gaudreau?</div></div>
Flames should take that and sprint away form the table thrilled with themselves, get it done before the NTC kicks in and move on from Gaudreau for good.
The deal fills two glaring holes for Calgary, get a scoring right shot winger and solidify the right side of the D core, Jokiharju is a phenomenal option that goes beyond solidifying. All while giving up a left shot winger that leaves Calgary with Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Dube still down the left side. Expansion is obviously an issue here as one of Tanev, Andersson or Jokiharju would be exposed.

next year 89
That Byron Lucic swap is a really interesting one and a good thought, I just don't think Calgary goes near it, Byron is everything the Flames have too much of already in undersized underperforming forwards, Lucic is paid too much but brings a ton to the Flames on and off the ice and it not worth it for Calgary to just save a couple million.

You're the only one saying it!? Who is "we" there is absolutely no "we" involved in any of this, Marner for Tkachuk would be a strong move for both teams, lose the homer goggles and learn to have a conversation with someone.
Regarding the actual post, this is bad, Calgary is not adding a significant piece in this trade.

Hanifin and Andersson will be the top pairing next year and you'd hope Tanev can do the same for Valimaki this year that he did for Hanifin last year.
Andersson is an interesting one cause he signed a deal in a really good year and it looks very overpaid at this point, he had a down season last year playing with Giordano against McDavid, Matthews, Draisaitl for most of the season. I think he is worth his contract it just isn't showing yet, it will be a really good looking deal in year 4, 5, 6 I believe.
I honestly think the Canadian division was the worst thing to happen to the Flames, you spend so long building a team to compete in the Pacific division with the California teams and Vegas that always ice a big thumping roster, to switch the game completely and try compete with high flying teams like the Leafs, Oilers x10, Jets and even the Senators that are uber talented is a crazy change. Andersson will thrive in the Pacific against those top guys, he plays a really solid heavy game.

That would be nearly 20 million dollars between Hanifin, Tavnev, Andersson and Jones with Valimaki and a 6 D still needing to get a contract, it would be a hell of a D core but the forwards would be scary bad, Calgary would need to address a few more issues if that were the case, I think the Hyman signing would be a good start but a top 6 of Gaudreau (could be gone in a year), Monahan (probably gone in a year or two), Lindholm, Hyman, Mangiapane and Dube(?) would not be playoff caliber.

Really good point, if the Leafs could sign him long term for less it could make a lot of sense but I definitely get what you are saying. What would be your top D target for Marner? Just out of curiosity

Tkachuk for senko rumours
Tkachuk for Tarasenko isn't even the worst part of this post, Valimaki isn't moving for a forward any time soon especially if Giordano is moved out to Seattle. Dunn is a good replacement piece but Valimaki still has such a high ceiling and Kylington should play his next hockey back in Sweden.

Absolutely, Marner or Eichel are the two options for a Tkachuk hockey trade, they didn't bring Sutter back to burn it down, and sometime in a hockey trade the return for futures can look way better but this move keeps Calgary competitive and possibly improves them from last year.

HAHAHA, I am simplifying it for you as you clearly didn't understand basic metrics the other day, and by your logic, significantly more playing time means that Olofsson's stats are inflated right??

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lunatik</b></div><div>Olofsson is only more productive because he gets top PP minutes at ES he was less productive despite playing more. In Calgary Olofsson wouldn't get top PP minutes, thus he'd end up being less productive overall. As for "possession", I don't give two ****s until they start measuring it in time like it should be.
At best it is a lateral move with up to double the cap hit, It's a bad move, but I'm not surprised you'd support a bad trade.</div></div>
So you'd argue that Olofsson's increased playing time is the reason he has significantly less giveaways last season? Points per 60, Olofsson still out produced. Over the last three seasons Olofsson out produced Dube at even strength in less games, and significantly out produced him on the power play, it's almost as if a team in the bottom third of the league in PP% like the Flames could use a guy who plays a ton of PP time, would be far better than Dube, Lucic, Backlund on the second unit.
Dube's stats could even be inflated compared to Olofsson cause he didn't have to play in Buffalo, this statistically, even the basic ones that you can understand was Olofsson's worst season and Dube's best, Olofsson was better..
The CapFriendly circle jerk Flames fans will continue to wank though!
PS, don't try edit your comments to take out insults, own it ya little goof ball!

2) Dube is 3 years younger
3) Dube will be signed to a lower cap hit than Olofsson
Sure the 2nd would be nice, but the Flames aren't rebuilding so downgrading makes no sense.</div></div>
Olofsson's possession numbers are better, Sutter likes those guys.
Dube has been mediocre at best in three seasons, Olofsson has almost doubled his production in less games played
It's so far from a downgrade it is crazy. Dube is a middle six at best. Olofsson immediately makes the Flames PP 2 better, arguably this was Olafsson's worst statistical season on a really bad team and he was still better than Dube in his best season so far in regards to possession and production.
At absolute dog shirt worst for the Flames it's lateral and they get a more productive player right now.
Calling it a downgrade is incredibly biased and really wrong, the second shouldn't even be in there, if they aren't rebuilding they should take the player that makes them more dangerous right away as opposed to the player that could possibly produce at that level in a couple years. Once again all around bad take from the Flames top group of little minions

Dube is also three years younger which has to be considered.
Purely looking at "counting stats" is a horrible idea because it doesn't factor in context. Olofsson "relative" possession numbers are better solely because Buffalo is an absolute dumpster fire.
The trade based on value is by no means horrible. It's just not a trade that makes Calgary a better overall team in my estimation.</div></div>
I disagree I think Calgary gets the better player and I think he would fit better in the Flames for the next few years trying to compete. Good points though, I can see where you're coming from, just don't agree.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Highlife</b></div><div>Olofsson is a complete liability at even strength and to this point is nothing more than a PP specialist. He wouldn't even see the 1st PP here.
Dillon Dube outproduced him at even strength this past season (20 points) while playing 12:15 a night at evens.
Victor Oloffson had 17 even strength points at even strength while playing 14:30 minutes a night.
Dube is the far more effective all around player, will be significantly cheaper in the short term, and is far more suited for a Sutter system. Darryl would absolutely despise VO.</div></div>
When the Flames march out a PP2 with Dube, Backlund and Lucic on it while living in the bottom third of the league there is definitely room for improvement.
Over the last three seasons comparing the two Olofsson has nearly doubled Dube's production in less games played, he has 5 more even strength points plus 30 more powerplay points. Looking at numbers you could actually argue that this was a down year for Olofsson while it was Dube's best season and Olofsson was still the better player.
Why would Sutter hate Olofsson, isn't it a tried and true Sutter trait that he loves guys with great possession metrics? Olofsson's numbers there have been better than Dube's every single season.

I like the idea of Patrick, I don't think Philly send him for Dube, I also think Dube is a really good piece in a trade as his spot should be filled by Pelletier/Zary/Ruzicka in the next couple years.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gmonwy</b></div><div>Flames need a right handed not left handed right winger lol</div></div>
Tarasenko has played RW nearly his entire career, would you turn down Ovechikin cause he shoots the wrong way to play on the LW? That's an incredibly weak argument.

That would be a really good deal for the Flames to take. Dube is fine but definitely hasn't progressed the way Flames fans think he should have, Olofsson would definitely have a more immediate impact that the Flames are looking for. I have no idea what the Flames fan above could see in wanting to keep Dube and a 4th over a guy who has put up 42 and 32 in 54 and 56 games.

I see what you're saying with the shorter term, higher price but I just think that's too steep. I like the bottom pairing of Giordano - Mackey, you really hope that Sutter plays them that way and Mackey gets 12-16 minutes a night with Gio. There is also a lot of uncertainty with this group beyond 2022, Gaudreau could walk or hamstring the Flames in a trade with a 5 team list, Monahan somehow has a M-NTC as well and Tkachuk will need to get paaaaiid. I think reliving needs to do a lot of work to firm up this teams future going forward.
