<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNBassman</b></div><div>Very well said, but a looooooooong ways from convincing me.

If you put Monahan and Fiala on the same line...they might score 100 goals, but they will give up 150.</div></div>

I have no issues with your mindset or your opinion. As I said, I hear ya. I actually agree with you about defensive centers. Your opinion is your own, as is mine. I wouldn't dream of it, nor am I inconsiderate enough to try to.

The reasons I want Cirelli over Monahan are the same reasons I want Lundell over other prospects at the Draft. Exceptional defensive acumen and shutdown prowess but with just enough offensive flair/capability to make them viable for a top six role, plus they're damn good on the face off dot, which is something we lack with Koivu now gone. Sans Galchenyuk too.

To be clear, I'd be perfectly happy and fine if we could get Rossi or for that matter Monahan. You just adjust the roster accordingly. With a defensive minded center next to Fiala you need to have a second scoring winger on the left side to pick up the production drop off. Conversely, with an offensive center like Monahan, make sure you have defenseman who like to stay home and cover for them while they put pucks in net. We have three of the best. Spurgeon, Brodin, Suter. Even if Suter's getting a little long in the tooth.

So, instead of a pure scorer at 1LW, get a hard-checking defensive minded scoring two-way power forward who can play in the top six and chip in offensively once in a while. I know, easier said than done, right? Ideally, Greenway would be that guy. But he's not. So who else do we have? Kaprizov fits this mold to a tee, despite his smaller stature. But we ideally want him on separate lines to give us better scoring depth. Parise already does a lot of these things and could work as a good stop-gap until we found someone. Boldy would be the guy I look at to develop into this role. Big, strong, already a sound two-way power forward who could really shine if depended on to perform that kinda role.

Whenever I look to add someone to our roster I also look at how I would continue to build around said player and how it would affect everyone else.

I go get Monahan, I draft Lundell to be my future 2C or 3C. I have a 2nd line of Kaprizov-JEE-Kunin. That 2nd line is both a shutdown line and a scoring line.

I go get Cirelli. I still draft Lundell. I build my center depth with strictly two-way or defensive centers and upgrade my wingers (1LW, 2LW/2RW) to offset the offensive production.

That is what I would do. But that's just my opinion.
