Finishing up with Eichel and Tatar
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Neither Sabres or Flames are doing that trade. Zero interest in Tatar</div></div>
Any Eichel trade proposal is controversial, so to each his own. But why no interest in Tatar, I fell like he’d offer top-6 play, and especially goal scoring, for what will likely be a discounted rate. And at least in this scenario would allow the flames to have zero holes in the top-9

That’s what I’d think too, but I keep seeing that they want two current top 6 players in addition to two prospects/1st’s — I could be wrong though and then would suggest a package of Gaudreau (in order to be flipped for a younger player/prospects), the two firsts, and instead of Monahan, two of Zary, Dube, and Kylington depending on how each of their value compares to Monahan irl.

I think you would have to replace Backlund with a prospect in the Forsberg trade because I cant imagine they want an older guy. With 1 year left, his value shouldnt be more than a prospect and a first. Good move!
I dont understand how people think Tkachuk would go the other way for Eichel.... You could argue Tkachuk is more valuable and neither team will come to terms in that move. I will say, the value is more than fair imo, but I think Buffalo would want younger players because they need to rebuild again since Eichel is gone.
Id say great job here overall, really like the ideas!</div></div>
Thanks!
Fully agree on the Eichel/Tkachuk point (though him being my favorite player definitely impacts that) but I don’t see it happening since Tkachuk is a unicorn, as for Backlund, he could either be moved for a pick and then add that return to the NSH trade, or my thought was — though maybe Josi and whatever other vets they’ll still have/could bring in would cover this — his leadership and all around game could rub off on the younger guys that will be brought into a rebuild which could significantly help them in the long run since if it’s a true tear-down you could end up in a Buffalo type eternal rebuild situation with no young players having any guidance

Trading our only reliable scoring forward for hopes and dreams in 5 years isn't gonna work. We'd want someone like Pelletier (or comparable prospect).</div></div>
Can I propose that the Arizona trade gets the 2022 1st and Nashville trade gets Zary and then our GM’s all read this (as they clearly do) and make it happen?

Gotcha, I’ll admit with how cautious NHL GM’s are these are pretty much all pipe dreams, but your point makes a lot of sense from the Preds POV. I was thinking that if there was a way for Poile to move Johansson or Duchene (maybe through expansion) that maybe the move could make sense since Backlund is a great leader and the type of guy you need around young players in a rebuild, but you’re right that with the assets that I packaged the timelines wouldn’t match up. I was trying to find some comparable trades and saw that for instance the Stone trade cost a former 1st round draft choice (Brannstrom), a 2nd (roughly equivalent to two 2nds) and an AHL player, and although VGK was seen as winning that trade, also seeing the past two Hall trades, as well as the Arvidsson and Ellis trades (and the report that Ellis was untouchable being untrue now) I thought that a similar package could work. I kinda tried to make the best of what the flames would still have, after the other moves, but I do think Backlund’s leadership would be an asset that any rebuilding team needs so you don’t end up rebuilding forever like BUF, though salary may need to be retained by the Flames or a third team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PeterForsberg21</b></div><div>Easy no for the Preds, also Tkachuk would be going the other way in any Eichel deal.</div></div>
Honest question: why is it an easy no for the Preds? cause Forsberg is young enough and good enough to stay through a rebuild, or cause the offer is too low. I’ll admit for a player of his caliber it’s low, but with 1 year left and as far as I know no guarantee he’d resign with a team that’s actively rebuilding and getting worse, I think a first plus three smaller assets would be fair IMO (which may be biased, though I think Gaudreau with no extension is worth the same, though personally I’d rather have another 1st than more, less valuable assets). though a bidding war could bump up the price, there are also times where GM’s get a bit desperate to move a guy they don’t feel they’d be able to resign and don’t get as much for him — but just my thoughts.
As for the Eichel trade I honestly don’t know that the Sabres are in a position to get Tkachuk for him — Tkachuk is a unicorn and I know 1C’s don’t grow on trees but with another 1OA pick the Sabres are in a position to target quantity over quality somewhat.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HatterTParty</b></div><div>🤣 love the baby boys line. 👍
That’s the side I land on, it’s on Colliton. So the question then becomes, does Colliton’s involvement become a detriment to the youth? Between the lack of ice time and poor progress (boqvist for sure), I keep fearing how this impacts them long term.</div></div>
I honestly couldn’t tell you if replacing him would work out better, someone I wanted this past offseason either as an assistant or head coach was Jim Montgomery (who we’d now need to pry from St. Louis or wait two years (which lines up with Collitons contract) to sign him — however at the start of his last season with Dallas he wasn’t very good at managing ice time or zone usage. Another guy we could pluck from an assistant job in the NHL is Marco Sturm who’s been great in LA and helped get the German national team to silver in the 2018 olympics.
Otherwise outside of the organization and even the NHL there’s a lot of really good coaches who actually know what they’re doing including Rikard Grönborg, Roger Rönnberg, Jukka Jalonen — the only thing is for some reason NHL teams don’t hire European coaches very often but Bowman took a risk with Colliton with him being young so why not take one with any of those above who’ve all proven to be great in every position they’ve been put in. (Though since Colliton spent time coaching overseas the hawks might be hesitant to hire someone from the same coaching background even if they’ve done significantly better)
I can’t see Bowman replacing Colliton this year and maybe not even next year but at some point he’ll likely have to or they both will be by Rocky or Danny Wirtz.
Oh and also Gallant still doesn’t have a job

Our prospects are definitely as good as advertised, it’s all on Collitons systems and the ice time he gives certain players, if you watch the games or look at the advanced stats behind Kurashev, Mitchell, and Suter, they’re among the best on the team, it’s not their fault that Colliton won’t put them on special teams over other players or that he won’t even give them the ice time they deserve. The only reason you’re not noticing Kurashev is cause he got 5.5 min of ice time in the first two periods tonight. The only prospect you could be mad at is Boqvist but I’d say him and Zadorov as a pair aren’t a good fit and he shouldn’t be thrusted into the PP1 qb spot.
The blames all on Colliton, and Stan to a somehow lesser degree as the young guys have all been good, it’s the vets and collitons favorite 4th line that aren’t good. As well as him making the entire D look like **** cause of the awful system he’s running, which leaves two untested goalies on their own.
tl;dr: don’t you dare disparage my baby boys

To be fair my only source for leafs news and opinions is Steve dangle who at least on his last pod was talking about how he fell off a cliff after he signed, my thought was mostly that you get a fairly significant upgrade for just over 1M. Me personally no because I grew up with Kane and I want to be able to compete again with him (and Toews/Keith), however, if Bowman managed to piss off him and the other core guys enough and traded them (which isn't out of the realm of possibility) I don't hate that trade but I'm higher than most (I think) on Texier and Korpi. I think if we went full rebuild so long as we could flip Nyquist (who I'm assuming you're moving for cap reasons) it could work.
...That being said I might cry for a month straight if we traded Kane, Toews, and Keith (and holy parenthesis)

Hoffman is definitely a better player but anything beyond three or four years is going to bite teams in the a**, he can’t really do anything besides shoot and even though his skating isn’t as bad as Neals he can’t drive play.
