Edmonton Oilers signed Josh Archibald (2 Years / $1,500,000 AAV)
Excellent bottom six signing. Archibald has been used essentially everywhere in the lineup and has been good in all usages. He might not get massive numbers of points, but the oilers bottom six doesn't have anybody to set him up with such opportunities yet.
Considering the typical fourth line player is costing more and more (wagner got more), this is a steal for a guy that looks decent on the 3rd line as well.
Even if Archibald drops off, this remains a low risk, good reward contract. Good move, Kenny!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canucks_Hawkey</b></div><div>I gave Toffoli 7 years because that's probably the minimum term he'd sign for. 5.875M cap hit is reasonable if he can maintain near a PPG pace down the stretch. Kreider is a fair comparison but I doubt anyone would give Toffoli more than 6M.
We'll see what happens with Ferland but he's in the same situation as Andrew Shaw in Chicago. I hope they come back.
I'm not convinced Stetch is a top 4 defenseman but the going rate for a tweener top 4/top 6 defenseman is between 3-4M. They should resign him for another year because whose going to replace him at this point? He's done a good job in his role but he wants a bigger role and probly more money at least. I say sign him for a year and let him walk the following season. Woo might be ready by then.</div></div>
If we have to give Tyler 7 years then we should walk. It's tough to let players go, but we also need to consider what will look bad later. Tyler has never been an elite point producer, and normally hovers around 50. Kreider has long had the one-up, and even his contract was seen as steep.
I like that cap hit, but at no more than 4 years.

I'd imagine that Roussel trade is for any team, but I don't think Montreal would have any interest in him.

Basically, it's nothing. Sometimes it's because of some sort of AHL deal that involves someone whose NHL rights belong to a team, so the NHL teams have to agree to make the deal.

It usually manifests itself as a strange condition that will probably never be fulfilled, The CBA does not allow you to trade players for nothing, so this is the GM's way around that.

i agree. but every time i think they are out they win 4/5, and every time i get my hope up they lose 6/7. ha heart breaking.
i think its time to sell. like you said teams know it is a very open playoffs, they have to go for it making prospects, and picks more expendable.
here are my lists:
i want moved:
strome, crow, maatta, nylander, smith (i think is a perfect TDL pickup), koekkoek
im ok with trading, but would rather keep:
saad, lehner, guskampf
id hate to see go:
murphy, carpenter,cagg
everyone else i dont think its even reasonable to think they will be traded (other than picks/prospects)

(LAK/VGK) - Martinez for Two 2nd round picks
hard to judge this. LA has all kinds of problems. It's like looking at a boat with 500 leaks and trying to figure out which one is the one causing the ship to sink.
He's got term which drives up the price, is he worth it though. I don't think we will be able to judge that till we see him in a better situation.
My guess is VGK over paid here.
But we'll see.

Dach Question
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>I think Mac is more than speed. He's got a lot of power and a heck of a shot. It's why he was a #1OA pick. I am indeed a little worried about Bowman/Kubalik. In 2 ways. A.) Bowman will either give him a $4M contract...way too much...or...B.) Trade him for less than his value. I give Bowman a TON of credit for that steal of a trade. Kubalik for a 5th rounder... WOW great trade. But he can't fall back into the old ways where Bickell, Panik, Manning, Kruger, Seabs got contracts either work more than they provide...or are payback contracts *cough cough* Seabs. Give him a 1 year prove it contract...or just let him go to arbitration.
As a side note. I also give a ton of credit to Bowman for continuously churning these guys out! Am I right?!?! Panarin, Kempny, Rutta, Kahun, Kubalik...all for free! That's a very underrated sign of a good GM.</div></div>
I do love the ability of the hawks to find these guys. However, come on Stan, either sign them long term at decent deals OR actually get FULL value for them. Maybe the value of those trades are subjective, but I do feel objectively that he didn’t really do them enough justice. Keyword is ENOUGH.

Dach Question
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div><a href="/users/HatterTParty" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@HatterTParty</a> Come one now Hatter. Give the kid some credit. The game wasn't perfect, but he played DARN good last night. I said not even a week ago that I'd like to see him with a little more strength with the puck. Well DANG! He showed some speed and strength last night. Probably his best game of the year. Out paced a couple Dmen. Had guys hanging all over him. Kept control of the puck. Finally got a tally. Again, not perfect. He's still 18 years old...for 1 more day... One game doesn't make a break someone, but I think I saw shades of Hossa with all those guys hanging on him. Going in the corner with literally 3 Jets on him and he's just fighting for the puck against all 3 of them.
Some more constructive criticism...only because I'm superstitious and every one in every job should strive for continuous improvement. Never settle.
I'd like to see him engage more...this is still the original topic we've discussed. Whether it's lazy ( I don't believe so ) or thinking vs reacting. He's getting better and while his point didn't come from the PP...I liked his play there too. Crash the nets...if he got elevation on the dish from Kane that would have been a goal. Can't get too mad. Toews missed a wide open net against OTT. It happens.
<a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/298255&post_id=1232126">https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/298255&post_id=1232126</a></div></div>
Absolutely, I’ll even admit he had a good game. He showed that he’s capable of using that big frame and the puck control was clean and confident. I definitely liked his end to end rush for the assist (albeit, kinda sucked the goal was a fluke). But yes, very good game. As you said, not perfect, but who is at 18. I’ll be honest though, I just really really wished his offensive game at 18 was more polished if he was allowed to stay with the team. That’s the big thing I’m very critical on him about. Two things I really see him improve on more are his shot and decision making. We both see eye to eye on the reacting vs thinking area. Lastly, maybe this is just me, but one area I’m still waiting to see his passing game get to another level. He passes well, but I really wanna see him on 2 v 1s actually convert more with teammates. I may never fully like this kid because I just don’t like guys of his archetype (I’m barely 5’9’ and have been playing 25 years, go figure). I like speed and dynamic play, like bure and mackinnon. However, he is a hawk, and I have to accept it will most likely be that way for years to come.
As a side note, is anyone else kind of nervous about kubalik with bowman in charge? Honestly, considering panarin and kahun, I’m a little nervous another great find is gonna be given away. You can see the potential in this team, I just don’t trust bowman to be the man manage the cap and keep the team together.

Dach Question
It's a good question to ask.
Getzlaf and Bergeron (ironically) both had 39 points their rookie years. Getzlaf seems to be his comp for the most part. OReilly 26 points in each of his 1st (2) years. Barkov 24 points then 36 points. Pierr Luc 48. Everyone starts differently. About half of those guys started in the NHL after they got drafted. The draft really is kinda crap shoot. Not 100%, but if we each had a crystal ball there wouldn't be any Stones, Palats, or Johnny Hockey. There are also plenty of 1-5 picks that do hardly nothing. Pool party, Olli Juolevi, Dal Colle, Nail Yakupov...heck go look at the 2012 draft Yikes! I don't think Dach is this years candidate. If anything currently Bowen Byram is the front runner there. I was wrong on that one. I tend to like Defensive forwards more than the average. I would take Bergeron over Stamkos 7 days a week. I don't think Dach is going to be a pure defensive center, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if during his career he gets some Selke votes. I see him being a 2-way player.

Penguins get their guy for RIGHT NOW and with manageable term going forward. Addison will be good but not for a few years. Bye Bye Gally and his 4.9 cap. Zucker on a line with Crosby!!! It will be a late first round pick so no big deal. Penguins can trade away players and get back into the first round and early if they want to. Welcome to the Burgh Jason Zucker!

If Hawks Want to Keep Lehner
1) I think Strome is signed for too much for too long. I’d love to see him on a bridge to prove himself. He’s in a little slump this year let him prove last year wasn’t a fluke.
2) if Shaw is LTIR next year they should keep him and use it for cap space a la Toronto.
3) Kubalik might be overpriced a little.
4) I don’t think Carolina needs Maatta. D is an area of strength for them and they have a surplus.
5) Montreal is not trading JK.

Cool. Now what do you do with Crawford? Let him walk for free? Resign him at a pay cut when he clearly wants to be a starter? Trade him and hope you get some return?
Due respect, I don’t think Stan bowman or hawks fans can accept asking these questions right now. We live too much in the now and don’t ask about the long term. How bout we trade Saad? Or maybe strome, which I pray to god we do since JC is a jackass who won’t play him with cat AND Kane anymore. I know in strome’s case he’s 22, but you can’t have a core of Dach and strome to succeed toews. They have way too many similarities and you need that dynamic, mobile center who recks havoc. In essence, a counterpart to the other center, so your team doesn’t become predictable. However, hawks don’t see it that way cause we think the world of strome’s strengths and completely ignore his weaknesses.
Just my two cents, I’ll be fully honest, I love this team but have no faith in their ability to adapt to the way the nhl is now. The we approached the draft, have handled trades and free agents, and just wish for the playoffs this when it’s a pipe dream just hurts. I know we had huge success, but that’s no excuse to just accept mediocrity. This franchise has far too history to just slip back into that mindset.
