(SJS/VGK) - Hertl, 2025 3rd (SJS), 2027 3rd (SJS) for Edstrom, 2025 1st (VGK)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>Dare I call this a fair trade? The retention on Hertl stinks for SJS, but its not like Hertl was getting any more valuable. The Sharks get back a prospect who I am a very big fan of and a 1st, while also moving off of a terrible contract. Hertl will be extremely good in Vegas for the next 3 - 4 years, which is perfect for them. That center depth is terrifying. I like it for both sides to be completely honest, but if I had to pick a winner its obviously going to be Vegas</div></div>
I am just beyond confused as to why people are destroying SJ over this. It’s a fine return for a player they have no more need for.

Because SJ has no healthy goalies (Vanecek and Blackwood are on IR). It looks like they’ll run Magnus Chrona and Devin Cooley (lol) as a tandem

(SJS/VGK) - Hertl, 2025 3rd (SJS), 2027 3rd (SJS) for Edstrom, 2025 1st (VGK)
Gonna be in minority here I think but San Jose did well.
Edstrom is a good prospect and has raised his stock since his DY, 1st is a good asset. Hertl had no worth to San Jose. They were so far ****ed by Doug WIlson, that Hertl had no chance of playoff games with San Jose for the duration of his contract the moment he signed it. Therefore he was no worth to San Jose. The only bad part of it is the retention slot being burned up. However this was the most he was ever gonna get for Hertl most likely.
Just another move that puts San Jose ahead in their rebuild.

This is a Fair Deal that SJS win in the long-run. VEG gets a decent player with term but he’s 30, so likely only has a couple decent seasons left in him whereas SJS get a 1st + Top Prospect, which may become a Star and they open up Cap Space to sign a Younger Player that fits their rebuild
Not a Fan of Grier as a Manager, but I don’t mind this one for the Sharks

Montreal getting a 3rd (possibly a 2nd) for our 3rd string goalie is absolutely insane. It makes sense for NJ, but they had all of the leverage, and Montreal still got value

(PIT/CAR) - Guentzel, Smith for Bunting, Koivunen, Ponomarev, Lucius, 2024 2nd (PHI), 2024 5th (CAR)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PurpleHippo</b></div><div>A 19 y/o at a PPG in the NCAA is alright, maybe a peak of being a middle-6 winger?
20 y/o at a PPG in Liiga is good IMO, with his stature of 5'11 I assume he may fill out but who knows. Again I'd say peaks mid-6.
Jake wasn't re-signing in Pitt and some other teams in on him (EDM, COL, VGK) all seem to have backed out, plus the injury I'd say dropped the price a bit.
I don't think anyone was trading their top prospects for him (outside of EDM who may have moved Holloway).
All of it combined I wasn't really sure why people on this site were expecting him to get an A+ Prospect and a 1st and +++ as he seems to want to test FA.
Maybe if there was a chance at an extension in place it becomes more lopsided (and who knows, maybe later today Carolina will come out with an extension for him and really rub in the victory here) but all I'm saying right now is that this wasn't a landslide.
Dubas did fine, Waddell did better. B- and A+ I'd say?</div></div>
It's way worse that a 160 pound guy is 5-11 than if he was 5-8. You can quote NCAA and Liiga stats all you like, but those are nowhere near rock solid proof of anything. They're still tiny wingers who don't skate that well or compete hard. And they're still mere piffle relative to the rest of the Carolina pool.
Dubas better pray that 1st comes through, because if not, he should be fired. From a cannon. As of today, he's nowhere near B- or even passing C. As of now, he got no 1st and nothing anywhere near an A prospect. He allowed Carolina to pile up nickels and dimes and wishes. That could get a small bump if the 1st comes through, but this was brutal asset management if two years of Bunting is the best thing he got - from in the division, no less.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PurpleHippo</b></div><div>To go against the grain here, <strong>Dubas said he wanted prospects and he got 2 good ones in Lucius and Koivunen</strong> while also getting a chance at a first.
Jake also wasn't re-signing in Pittsburgh, he could've (and maybe should've) gotten more but if I'm PITT I wouldn't be too upset with the return here.
Also don't forget Bunting isn't a half bad player, put him along side Sid and you might re-coup some costs.</div></div>
They weren't even top 5 prospects for Carolina. He got a plethora of "meh" picks and players and got nothing that is likely to ever make a difference at the NHL level while trading away a true 1st line player. Only hope is he returns to PIttsburgh in FA.

I don’t trust KD to weaponize it tbh. He’s done good by taking on bad contracts with 2nd rounders attached but he’s never been party to a three way trade.

This is laughably bad for the Senators, they couldn't even pry a decent prospect out of Florida. I get that the trade protection on Tarasenkos deal allowed him to dictate where he went, but that doesn't change the fact that this trade is horrible. For crying out loud, Anthony Mantha cost the Knights more than this.
This is highway robbery for the Panthers who add another lethal offensive weapon to their already loaded forward group. At only 2.5m, he is going to be extremely valuable. If they want to buy more, they easily could (granted they don't have the money). This was a masterclass of a trade from Zito and a complete blunder by Staios

Rielly did well with Boosh the last time they were together
Its not crazy big assets (3rd and 6th less then what they gave the first time)
Hes coming at under league min once all ret is in place.
Im fine with it, not a super needle mover but considering the recent injury a necessary one
Also wont be the only move as they still got assets and cap space
