2 physical, "grit", "intangibles" wingers with virtually identical production in the 2 years prior to being traded, with similar contractual costs (Meier 3 mill+8.8x4=38.2 mill over 5 years, Brady 8.2x5=41 mill over 5 years)</div></div>
Meier is a complimentary player. He was thought to be a driver. I thought Devils overpaid BUT, it was a good overpay because he should compliment Hughes, hasn't happened. Mukhamadullin was so underrated as a prospect. But hey revisionist history. I am still a big fan, though.
Even last year Tkachuk would have more value. He impacts the game more at a younger age. More physical, leader and intangibles. If you don't like it and call it bias, fine. But it's true

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Any factual basis to that claim or just pure bias?</div></div>
You're joking right? A little ironic saying I have bias...
Meier: 24 pts in 45 games, -24 on a team with a -11 differential. 121 shots, 64 hits, 16:39 ice time
Tkachuk 50 points in 54 games, -4 on a team with a -12 differential, 249 shots, 188 hits 18:41 ice time. Takes faceoffs at 55%
Lol Like wow, I can't believe how close they are. My bias is just oozing from me I guess.
To put it in perspective, he's on pace to have a worse season than Huberdeau last year... And that's saying something

And yet, Tkachuk holds significant more value than Meier. I like Meier but Tkachuk has more impact on a game to game basis

Thanks. I don't think he will be 915 either, I think average so 905. Keep in mind, Columbus was not good until torts got there, played awesome in the leafs series. He played amazing in front of the kings who played a structured game. Comes to Ottawa, shocker he got shelled. The chances he faced were insane in the 1st half. It looked to me he felt like he had to bail his team out, tried even harder and made his problems worse.
Maybe I'm just optimistic, but if the sens put a detailed team in front of him, he's going to be good. Who's to say saros doesn't get here and go holy hell what are these chances haha. Demko was 'awful' last year. Coaching change, team played differently, 2nd half was better. This year denko is a Vezina candidate. Not saying korpi will be that, just how having a detailed team plays a big role

That contract has 'you'll hate me in 3 years' all over it. I honestly don't think Korpisalo is as bad as his stats. To me he's average goalie that can go on hot streaks. Which is acceptable imo and at 4m, that's value. Goalies can be amazing one year not good the next then switch after, examples Shesterkin, Sorokin, bobrovsky, hellebyuk, even vasilevski. All have great seasons, all have had bad seasons with big tickets
Sens played horribly in front of him the first half, and have played better the last few weeks. Is he a stud .915 to .925, probably not but he's not the .890 either. I'd rather pay 4m for that than 8 for a guy into his late 30 that can drop off any second. Maybe unpopular that's where I'm at

Slaf breakout real or fake
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>I like slaf a lot and he should have been put in this situation all year (Josh Anderson on PP1 should be a crime).
Just went from PP2+bad linemates+horrific shooting luck to good linemates+PP1+good shooting luck
Honestly imo he was more impressive early in the year with what he was doing in terms of chance generation 5v5 considering what he was working with</div></div>
I mean, there's so much more to prospect development than teammates, pp time and shooting luck. Coach probably didn't think he was ready to play with those better players, or wanted him to see if he could drive a line with lesser skill players. So him being on the top line generating less isn't him not being as impressive as it could be he has other players to drive the line, and he can develop other skills. Size, speed, creating space for his teammates, knowing where to be on the ice as plays develop.
So I can't get behind he was more impressive earlier in the year. Stats, even advanced stats don't tell everything. He's getting the trust of his coach to make smart nhl plays playing against top lines. At 19 almost 20, that's damn impressive. So yeah, short term, shooting percentage, chance generation take a hit. But he's growing his game a professional way, and that's something MSL and all Habs fans should be excited about

That's because the Eriksson Ek contract is gold and Necas's effort is unpredictable. I'd rather have EK up the middle over Necas on the wing all day... Not even taking into account the contracts. I like both players but EK is just better all around

Artyom Levshunov or Zayne Parekh will be entering the building
Levshunov is the prize of defense for 2024. I would be so pumped for that. Then toss up between Dickinson or Silayev? Both have pros and cons. I'd even add Buium at 4. Now, could Perekh be a Makar light? Totally, but if he misses, he's just another offensive dman that has to be sheltered. They just can't afford to risk that outcome with this pick imo so I'd take the safer bets

I think if they're getting Lindholm back with an extension it's KK and a 1st minimum. Can't see Calgary moving a player as good as him and not getting a late 1st even if it was just a rental. But I love it for Carolina wither way.

Toronto Maple Leafs signed William Nylander (8 Years / $11,500,000 AAV)
Nylander is elite plain and simple and played his way to this contract. I wish there a neutral option for the contract. It's not a good signing in terms of value etc, not bad, but necessary.
What I'm curious is what he plays like next year. Is he a contract show pony? Or a yearly thoroughbred... Find out next time on the Keeping Up with the Maple Leafs

adding a veteran
Unlike most people here I don't see why the sens do this. Coleman is having a good season, actually a career year at 32. It's awesome to see but how sustainable is it as he gets to 33, 34, 35? Signed for 3 more seasons after this at 2 mil more than Joseph who is just as productive. He will regress hard next year and I bet the flames will be complaining about that 4.9m for a 33 y.o 3rd liner.
Sorry but I'll take my chances with a younger, faster 2m less player and less term. Sens want some vet depth, try free agency. They don't need to make these expensive asset trades
