<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Seattle does not care. Basically Francis can take a guy like Foote, and force Brisbois to have to make a side deal with him to take Johnsson or Gourde. Nobody is letting Tampa off the hook. You want to move a contract pay up otherwise have fun being over the cap.
Cap space is a weapon rn and many teams will utilize the space they got to gain more assets.</div></div>
If Francis can pull it off then more power to him. But Iunno if Brisebois will lay down. It looked like he would last offseason but he didn’t. So we’ll see but I have a feeling Yzerman’s protege will come out on top

Seattle expansion draft thread
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Because Seattle can just say **** you and your cap problems and go the easy route taking one of their cheaper guys. So that forces Brisbois to pay other teams to take these contracts or pay Seattle to take Johnsson.</div></div>
But gourde to another team for cheap is only benefitting the other team. It’s not controlled chaos it’s just chaos. Gourde’s free, he has term and Francis got to watch him for like 23 games in the playoffs. Tampa made MTL look like they didn’t deserve to be there which makes all the teams they beat look worse. And they were good teams. So there’s something in the sauce in Tampa that’s different and you’re saying Francis wouldn’t want a taste

Why not take Gourde, he has the potential to be a really good top 6 center and there isn't a lot of center depth in the ED

His point totals were really good last year. Kerfoot is one of those guys that you appreciate if you watch leafs games but iunno if that’ll translate. It’s like Palat in Tampa where he’s so underrated but he shouldn’t be

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>Graves is worth more than Palat.
Competent defensemen are way harder to find than competent forwards, unless they are consistent 30+ goal scoreres.
Palat hasn't even cracked 20 in like 7 years or something.</div></div>
Sure but a competent LW for McDavid which weirdly has been a struggle for EDM to find for a couple years could be worth a lot. He knows how to play with stars, he's been playing in tampa's top 6 for years throughout all their success. Or just sign Galchenyuk or something to save picks/punish tampa

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Florida_Man_Maroon</b></div><div>In what world do we sign Ryan Suter to a 4 million dollar deal. At that price, keep Savard or sign someone like Martinez</div></div>
Martinez and Savard most likely want multiyear deals, we can only afford them for 1 year with Point's extension coming up. This is similar to the Shattenkirk and Bogosian situation 2 years ago, signing guys to 1 yr deals after getting bought out

Suzuki and Kotka take their next steps especially with their new wingers/linemates to support them.</div></div>
I don't think Paquette can shut down top lines like Danault did.

2021 Playoffs Discussion Thread
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KSIxSKULLS</b></div><div>That's legally not allowed to do. Tampa is legally allowed to do it because the NHL let's them. Yzerman is an amazing GM and he will turn Detroit into a Dynasty, but 0% state tax is definitely a big advantage. Bonus's have to do with the owners, not the team.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gm_jeanguy</b></div><div>Where are the facts to back up this statement? For all I know, TB is paying less money for its star players than Canadian teams do, and it has nothing to do with the negociation prowesses or the roster building skills of the GM.</div></div>
Go look at how Matthews, Marner and Tavares’ contracts are structured. No other team has players with those types of contracts. Its MLSE but that’s still unfairness and only one team can do that (maybe NYR), compared to the no state tax where other teams like Arizona and Nashville have it and it’s not like FAs are taking discounts there or they’re winning cups every year.
Every guy on the leafs has a commercial even Mikheyev. That’s one of their strengths

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KSIxSKULLS</b></div><div>Montreal or Toronto would have to pay Kucherov 15m+ to pay him what Tampa pays him. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Bittman will never do anything to benefit the Canadian Teams though.</div></div>
And Toronto can give players Canadian Tire deals and give most of their contracts in bonuses. Yzermans don't grow on trees, not every GM can build a team like he did.

That's a big bonus for Girard then. Iunno i might be bias but just the combination of size, speed and skill with Sergachev. Girard might be the better overall player rn but I'd bet on Sergachev becoming one of the better D-men in the league at some point in his development.

Which player is better
Sergachev is better for tampa imo cause he can effectively play both sides. Rutta is marked down as the 1st RD but he really splits time with Sergachev up there so Rutta only really plays 11 mins a game. Hedman's good enough to carry anyone really (Rutta, Schenn, Bogosian) thus it keeps costs low, and really during important moments he's playing with Sergachev
