I think Tampa would want the 9OA minimum for a guy that plays top 4 minutes at a reasonable cap hit on the defending (possibly soon to be repeating) champs.

Nah never gonna happen. Tampa ain't getting no 1st round picks to offload a bunch of salary. They need to loose a lot of money off the books and cant keep everyone.

Tampa is not a charity. They have something like 10 players they'd rather lose then Cernak. When you have the best team, you get the chance to haggle. Last offseason they were able to get away with losing spare parts by using the Kucherov scam. The season before that was a first rounder for JT Miller.

Think Johnson, McDonagh, Joseph, Killorn, Gourde, Cal Foote, Jan Rutta.

In free agency, we could overpay for Coleman or Goodrow, who are both excellent but will be paid more than their dues.

Cernak would walk on to the Canuck's roster and probably be the best all around defenseman on day 1, while being a perfect age and a miniscule cap hit, and his cost would reflect that.

I'm a hugggeeee Canucks fan, I really like what you've done with the team here, honestly. I'd love to pick up Cernak. He would just about "solve" our defense. I just think that conversation starts with the 9OA, and from my perspective, 9OA for Cernak is a great trade for VAN.

Ron Francis isn't about to pass on guys like Gourde, Killorn and/or Cal Foote in favor of Johnson without some big time persuasion. This article opened my eyes to the type of devastation an expansion team can cause:
