Game 6
I think Heinen is dealing with an injury and should sit for game 6 along with Maroon! I’d keep DeBrusk with Zacha and Pastrnak, Geekie with Marchand and Coyle, Frederic centering JVR and Lauko and Beecher, Boqvist and Brazeau for the 4th line. Your defensive lines make sense though I can see Monty putting Forbort in instead of Lohrei and pairing him with Shattenkirk!

Keep the band together
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tupty</b></div><div>In my opinion, this team is overachieving this year, which is great. But I wouldn't just run it back and hope to win the division again. At the very least, I'd try to improve the LD. The one thing going for this approach is that if the young guys improve and there isn't regression in other parts of the lineup, then it is possible that the team could improve with the existing cast.</div></div>
I tried to find a bonafide goal scorer or good LD with the 3-4 million remaining but couldn't find one to replace the current roster. Unless Grzelcyk completely disappears in the playoffs, I think he'd be fine on the 3rd D-pair. And I honestly think Hanafin and Lindolm will sign with someone else!

Is this possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>I don’t believe Sweeney would have acquired Lindholm only to lose him in free agency. I also don’t believe people are overvaluing him. I think it’s more a form of acceptance that one explainable variance year doesn’t lower value by more than $2M AAV. He was easily making $8.5M AAV before this year based on comparables. I do think it is between 7 and 7.5M personally, but could see him sign for less for an opportunity to play between Zacha and Pasta (likely years and not AAV would be my guess, but it is guess)
With regards to Lohrei not being able to develop as a 3rd line defenseman, that’s BS and you know it. One could make the argument that they acquired Peake to give him a more defensively sound running mate. Right now, he’s the 8th defenseman on the roster, so his level of “improvement” isn’t enough to play over a journeyman AHL’er and an old man signed to a minimum. I do agree he’s gotten better, but not enough to play this year barring injuries.
Even if they choose to sign Lindholm, my bet is they sign a cheaper defenseman to a shorter term contract with the express purpose of NOT pushing Lohrei to a top 4 role before he’s remotely prepared to do it. I like Lohrei and believe he will EVENTUALLY will develop into a solid 2nd line defenseman, but I’d be happy if it is within the next two calendar years. Development at the NHL level on lower lines is generally preferable.</div></div>
I think we’re kind of saying the same thing. I don’t expect Lohrei to play the full season next year, just a bit more than he did this year. Maybe it makes more sense to get a better LD and let the current guys playing center to carry on? This ACGM was made to feel out Bruins fans’ thoughts on Swayman trusting the organization to extend the tandem as long as possible! Fantasy more than reality LOL 😂

Is this possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>1. If they can get value for Ullmark, I’m fine with trading him. I’m also OK letting Bussi sit on the NHL roster as a 3rd goalie if they can’t. With our cap position next year, we should be able to afford it.
2. Losing Heinen would be stupid unless he believes he can make more the. $2.25m on the open market. He fits what Montgomery likes and would be a low cost flyer that can improve a line.
3. Lindholm is coming off a bad year where you can look at circumstance and understand why. At the beginning of the year, he would have been the best case scenario acquisition in free agency for the Bruins.
4. it sure looks like Don Sweeney isn’t letting this one year cloud his judgement or he wouldn’t have tried to acquire him twice asking to tie him up long term. Fully anticipating a 7 year offer between 6.75 and 7.5M to Lindholm from Boston. Wouldn’t be shocked at a 5 year offer over that number. His play this year warrants some level of discount front eg Scheifele or Hovart deals, but it’s reactionary to disregard his 6 years before this past year.
5. If you’re signing DeBrusk, my assumption is you are pursuing a D in free agency instead of Lindholm.</div></div>
If point #5 was meant for me, then no! I don’t believe a top 4 LD (ie: Hanafin) makes sense when you can see Lohrei improving with every game he plays! Sure he makes some dumb mistakes every now and then but that’s THIS year. Keep him up from the start of next season and have some depth in case of injuries. Maybe Fleury isn’t the preferred target but he’s a big body who can throw it around.
BTW, I agree with points 1 through 4 and can’t understand why the bulk of this group over-values Elias Lindholm as much as they do! He was a stud with Gaudreau and Tkachuk on his wings and hasn’t re-captured that form since their departure. I think 6.5 to 7 is all Sweeney will pay for him.

They all scare me. Playoffs are such a different animal! Given that I didn’t think the Bruins would easily get a spot and that they’re playing with house money, I don’t have a favourable match up. I’m just hoping the tough games they’re about to play to close out the season gets them closer to having what they need to make a solid push. If you need me to pick a team, the Capitols!

Right, but how can it be done and STILL acquire either Lindholm or Hanafin? I’ve tried with bringing up Merkulov and Lysell instead of signing depth pieces but that’s also a big risk!

I certainly don’t.
And I’m sick and tired of being told that I do!
Poitras is the next Bergeron and Lohrei is the next Orr.
Also Lysell is the next Pastrnak.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kogut35</b></div><div>I also hope he does nothing lol. But if they actually want a shot at winning they need a top center. Hertl is good. He would be much better in boston than San Jose. They also need a legit top 4 dman, which carrier brings. This is just the cheapest way to actually have a contending roster, because it feels like a waste to go into the playoffs as is, if they actually want to win.
And 1c's don't grow on trees, with no first round picks until 2025, by the time they land a potential 1c and let them develop, Marchand will be gone, pasta will be mid 30's, Lindholm and Mcavoy will be much older too. Worth it to take a cheap option</div></div>
Hertl is hurt and would be on LTIR until the playoffs IF he’s ready to play and then would have to get acclimated to the system so it’s a big risk for THIS year! Carrier is a right shot RD and you have him on the left side. I could see using him on the 3rd line beside Wotherspoon but if he’s THAT good, he’s not being traded for a couple of picks! Good right shot RDs are tough to find and I think Nashville would want to keep him unless they value Barrie and Fabbro much more than him.

What happened to Boqvist? Why bring Beecher back when that Lauko/Boqvist/Richard line is starting to pick up steam? Why bring in Hertl and lose valuable picks when he wouldn’t make the team that much better and whose contract will age terribly? Why get rid of BOTH Forbort and Grzelcyk without getting a bonafide goal scorer in return and when they’ll be needed as depth down the stretch and potentially in the playoffs? Why waste picks on Carrier when there’s depth with Wotherspoon, Mitchell and Regula? Sorry that I’m asking a lot of questions but I’m confused with all the panic when there’s 27 more games to go and we’re not out of the running yet!! I really hope Sweeney does nothing!

I totally agree with giving Lysell a 2 or 3 game stint to see how he fits in. Right now, I wouldn’t take Boqvist out of the lineup. I’m all for rotating Lauko, Steen, Brown, Poitras and Lysell. I just wouldn’t want to leave Fabian sidelined when he could be getting valuable minutes with Providence!

Rewarding internal options
Agreed that the Bruins should roll with what’s working. There’s enough proven defensive depth and the scoring is starting to come. Boqvist has looked good in the last 3 games and Geekie has slowly started to impress me how well he can hang on to the puck! Save the picks and prospects and see what transpires in the off-season. The only trade I would make is Forbort and Grzelcyk for a cheaper LD and a goal scorer but I doubt that will happen!
