I think they throw the bag at Hanifin, probably looking for a top 6 center. If they re-sign DeBrusk, which is very much up in the air, I don't see him fitting.</div></div>
I wouldn't think he gets that much. Keep in mind, the entire league overlooked him last year - there's a reason for that. also keep in mind basically all of his success has come in boston, i would think that would make him motivated to stay. he's bounced around quite a bit. I think a 2x2-2.5 deal makes sense for both sides. That Heinen - Zacha - Pasta line just works.

if we keep most of the roster in tact well probably keep Ully
You could offer DeBrusk a million less than that and he'd still go for it.
You could also go with 2 scratches instead of 4 which frees up another 1.5 million.
And the cap is probably going up to 87.7 not 87 million. So that's another 700k right there.
Which leaves you with $4.9 million of cap space to add another player. And if you do get another player with that money that subtracts one player from the roster who will lose his spot to the new guy.
So after all that, you can spend another $5.7 million on a player even with Ullmark staying.

Miss Kuraly on the Bs but they have bottom 6 centers covered for probably half his salary.
Plus whatever they can save to go after a high-end center helps

Is this possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bruinadian67</b></div><div>If point #5 was meant for me, then no! I don’t believe a top 4 LD (ie: Hanafin) makes sense when you can see Lohrei improving with every game he plays! Sure he makes some dumb mistakes every now and then but that’s THIS year. Keep him up from the start of next season and have some depth in case of injuries. Maybe Fleury isn’t the preferred target but he’s a big body who can throw it around.
BTW, I agree with points 1 through 4 and can’t understand why the bulk of this group over-values Elias Lindholm as much as they do! He was a stud with Gaudreau and Tkachuk on his wings and hasn’t re-captured that form since their departure. I think 6.5 to 7 is all Sweeney will pay for him.</div></div>
I don’t believe Sweeney would have acquired Lindholm only to lose him in free agency. I also don’t believe people are overvaluing him. I think it’s more a form of acceptance that one explainable variance year doesn’t lower value by more than $2M AAV. He was easily making $8.5M AAV before this year based on comparables. I do think it is between 7 and 7.5M personally, but could see him sign for less for an opportunity to play between Zacha and Pasta (likely years and not AAV would be my guess, but it is guess)
With regards to Lohrei not being able to develop as a 3rd line defenseman, that’s BS and you know it. One could make the argument that they acquired Peake to give him a more defensively sound running mate. Right now, he’s the 8th defenseman on the roster, so his level of “improvement” isn’t enough to play over a journeyman AHL’er and an old man signed to a minimum. I do agree he’s gotten better, but not enough to play this year barring injuries.
Even if they choose to sign Lindholm, my bet is they sign a cheaper defenseman to a shorter term contract with the express purpose of NOT pushing Lohrei to a top 4 role before he’s remotely prepared to do it. I like Lohrei and believe he will EVENTUALLY will develop into a solid 2nd line defenseman, but I’d be happy if it is within the next two calendar years. Development at the NHL level on lower lines is generally preferable.

Is this possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>princessTom</b></div><div>Lindholm and Fischer are garb, not worth the money
Hope Heinen gets paid, but not in BOS
Theyd be silly to run it back with the goalie tandem again, get value for Ullmark while you can, plus they have 2 solid goalies in Providence, cant just let them rot there forever</div></div>
1. If they can get value for Ullmark, I’m fine with trading him. I’m also OK letting Bussi sit on the NHL roster as a 3rd goalie if they can’t. With our cap position next year, we should be able to afford it.
2. Losing Heinen would be stupid unless he believes he can make more the. $2.25m on the open market. He fits what Montgomery likes and would be a low cost flyer that can improve a line.
3. Lindholm is coming off a bad year where you can look at circumstance and understand why. At the beginning of the year, he would have been the best case scenario acquisition in free agency for the Bruins.
4. it sure looks like Don Sweeney isn’t letting this one year cloud his judgement or he wouldn’t have tried to acquire him twice asking to tie him up long term. Fully anticipating a 7 year offer between 6.75 and 7.5M to Lindholm from Boston. Wouldn’t be shocked at a 5 year offer over that number. His play this year warrants some level of discount front eg Scheifele or Hovart deals, but it’s reactionary to disregard his 6 years before this past year.
5. If you’re signing DeBrusk, my assumption is you are pursuing a D in free agency instead of Lindholm.

Alternative universe - PLD in Boston
But I was told the problem was that he wants to be on the big stage and that Columbus and Winnipeg were just too smalltime for what a star he is. What do you mean a team in a major market is seeing the exact same problems?
Boston should thank Ullmark every day for nixing that deal.

Off-season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>It removes about half the teams in the league. I seriously doubt he is going to systematically identifying teams that need goalies and remove them. The simplest mechanism is to remove high tax burden states and then place geographical restrictions in place.
At his current age, his value is at his peak and if he signs now, he can secure more years than if he waits especially if he becomes the primary backup in Boston. It removes the injury risk from the equation as well.
You think he’s going to put NJ, Philly, Pittsburgh, Carolina on his list?</div></div>
I think if he wants to stay in Boston that’s exactly what he does. Find the 6-8 teams you know need a goalie. That still leaves half the list for personal preference of undesirable locations and bubble goalie needing teams.
Canes and Pens don’t need a goalie. Who wants to be in Newark? Philly is one of the places that will be interesting. Then again we all figured LA was safely not on his NTC…oops.
You are also underestimating how important happiness, comfort, content is to him. After his first year he sat down for an interview for a magazine article. He talked about dealing with his depression, about considering leaving the NHL and going home and play in Europe. When he talks glowingly about Boston and the org it is not lip service. He is happy there and that is something that you can’t measure the value of.
As far as extension goes unless
1 - he is worried about injury devaluing him
2 - worried about dip in play devaluing him
3 - worried playing more of a backup role devaluing him
4 - worried about signing the biggest deal he can
Than i think he’ll take his chances that his value does not change significantly in a years time and he’ll have options as opposed to being force fed a situation that is not to his liking.

Their core players are young enough where I wouldn’t see this happening. That said, trading two firsts for any pending free agent is a dumb move especially when you are giving DeBrusk away for a late 2nd.
I will also say that Lohrei, Poitras, and Lysell look like legitimate NHL players that add some very interesting youth to the table with Lysell being a pretty large X factor with risk/talent.
If they want Guentzel, July 1st.

Give Frederic and Lysell a shot
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bruinadian67</b></div><div>I totally agree with giving Lysell a 2 or 3 game stint to see how he fits in. Right now, I wouldn’t take Boqvist out of the lineup. I’m all for rotating Lauko, Steen, Brown, Poitras and Lysell. I just wouldn’t want to leave Fabian sidelined when he could be getting valuable minutes with Providence!</div></div>
I didn’t mean to have Brown on the roster. You can remove him from that equation except for injuries.
Boqvist likely becomes a player who spells Heinen, JVR, Poitras, and Lauko while being in the lineup as much as any of them,
I do thinking Lysell deserves a shot if he continues to play like this. I’m actually more excited after these last 14 games since the Mouganel call out. I criticized Ryan for the comments, but it might have been the tough love that he needed,
On a side note. For as bad of a prospect system as Boston is supposed to have, they’ve completely redid Providence with prospects and I am seeing a few kids with NHL potential.
Lysell, Lohrei are being supplemented with Merkulov, Farinacci, Kuntar, Regula, Mitchell, and Callahan. The emergence of Brett Harrison getting playing time finally is also a positive development.
Two Id like to focus on that don’t get enough attention.
Alec Regula deserves call up consideration. The kid has been outstanding at Providence and should have passed Ian Mitchell. He is the best D man in the AHL. If there is a left side injury, Lohrei deserves the call up. If it’s right side, Regula.
If teams are watching Providence, I’d try to get a hold of Brett Harrison vs a throwaway pick. He’s starting to show really well after not getting much opportunity at the beginning of the season. Not much of a skater, but he’s passed Toporowski on the PP1 group and is getting some really playing time. That shot of his is fantastic. He’s not ready but I could see him moving up to a much more prominent role with Providence next year .

Trade Deadline
Elias Lindholm wants $9M per year into his mid 30s and is being outplayed by Charlie Coyle. He’s getting a rental rate for most teams and retention is going to be a consideration. The reality is Calgary fans haven’t completely accepted this yet. Is he worth three to four million more than Bertuzzi and RoR for longer term? Not sure
I think I’m OK moving forward with our collection of camp dumps and unqualified players who have Boston in first place rather than trading for the collection of stars that have Calgary outside of the playoffs.
For all the crapping on Geekie, you realize his advanced stats are actually favorable compared to Lindholm offensively per 60 outside of his faceoff percentage. Better PP/60, Corsi, and Fenwick. He’s not a name, but if you look at him objectively … there is a lot to like.

The Kings are not going to pay the price to get a good goaltender. Not worth even discussing it with their fans. Until Blake and Robatille fail miserably because their cheap goaltender theory blows up in their face, they will pursue second tier goaltenders. The sooner fans realize that, the less we have to discuss.

They need someone to fill the top6 C role and Coyle is the guy by default. Geekie is an option although a short-term one (lesser than Coyle).

Geekie back to the 4th line replacing one of 94/19/62 and Merkulov can play C/LW on the 3rd line or on the LW of Zacha-Pastrnak.
