The most fun team to watch in NHL history
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>Lmao. Come on man. I would make this trade with a gun to my head</div></div>
Good thing your not the Canucks GM then. This package is horrible unless it was for Hughes alone. Demko + Joshua + 2nd on top of Hughes is a severe underpayment.
Hughes would cost 4+ 1sts if he were traded (Savoie + Benson + Rosen + 1st)
UPL holds 0 trade value and less than 0 to the Canucks. Oft injured 24 year old goalie, waivers eligible, signed to a 925k 1 way deal, likely still an AHL starter (if that) quality goalie that has put up marginal numbers in the AHL and NHL. Statistically speaking, the last 3 years in a row, he's been at best the 3rd best goalie on his AHL team. He cant even outplay the likes of Michael Houser, Malcom Subban, Andrew Hammond, Jonas Johansson, and Aaron Dell in the AHL. None of those goalies are NHL caliber, and only 2 are even AHL starter material. Silovs is likely a better goalie prospect at this point given age, injury history and level of play. UPL likely clears waivers or your forced to carry 3 goalies if you dont want to risk losing him for nothing.
Olofsson has 0 value around the league at the moment and to the Canucks. They already have 3 4M+ wingers that arent moveable in the NHL at the moment. No need to add to their abundance of wingers, especially 1 that cant be flipped.

Lol all of these deals are so bad
Hanafin at 2.2M retained starts at 1st + 2nd
Bailey is going to cost a lot more than a 4th to dump. a No one is taking him on hoping he rebounds for them to sell later unless they get paid the price it would cost to dump a 25 point 5M player.
Myers if 50% is retained is going to cost a lot more than a 4th. A big smooth skating RHD is a hot commodity in the NHL because RHD are rare. Look at any trade involving a NHL RHD, any team getting the d-man overpaid.

Canucks easily pass. Johansson is easily the worst player and worst contract in the deal, Boeser being the best player, Fabbro being the best contract, Fabbro is a similar level player to Myers today but is younger and cheaper. He likely is a near finished product too being 25 with over 250 games played. We arent marginally upgrading Myers to severly downgrade Boeser to Johansson to save 2.1M in cap this season and pay an additional 1.4M+ (the 3M fabbro signs for) AND paying you Podkolzin + 2nd + 3rd.
Nashville will be the ones adding if they want to swap RyJo + Fabbro for Boeser + Myers.

LOL so Canucks take on 3 years at 3.5M of a d-man not even worth league minimum anymore AND get the pleasure of giving up the 11th overall pick? More like SJ is adding the 4th overall pick and Canucks remove 11th overall

Brock and El Nino
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tbrew</b></div><div>I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that either. Just this year at the TDL, late 1st rounders went to wingers that either included heavy retention, had a higher caliber body of work, or a combination. The market just doesn’t justify that for Boeser, even if he somewhat redeems himself, to be worth a 1st with no relief provided by Vancouver</div></div>
At last year's TDL
Engvall at 2.25M returned a 3rd
Greenway with 2 years left at 3M being a 30 point 3rd/4th liner that brings a some size and some physicality returned a 2nd and 5th
Domi at 3M UFA returned a 2nd
Niederreiter with an additional year at 4M returned a 2nd
Bertuzzi at 50% ret for the remaining year returned a 1st + 4th
Hell Patrick Kane at 50% RET returned a conditional 1st (ended up being a 2nd) + 3rd + 4th with only 1 team he was willing to be traded to. Making it a situation of CHI has to take whatever NYR offered or let Kane finish out the year and walk.
Boeser is better than everyone that returned a 2nd or 3rd by a significant margin. With the season bertuzzi was having, he would have similar value to that if Boeser continues on as he did this past season. So at the 2025 TDL he will be worth a 1st at 50% RET

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tbrew</b></div><div>Probably not going to end up worth that even if he bounces back, with him being a rental after this year</div></div>
Not if he's traded next off-season. If he makes it to the tdl he still has that value if not more. You think a contender wouldnt pay a late 1st to have Boeser for their cup run? They wouldnt have to worry about fitting him in for future plans, just a kick at the cup for 1 year for any team wanting to go all in.

Canucks say thanks but no thanks. We have no need for Boqvist and aren't desperate to dump cap. Boeser's value should jump up after next year. With the cap jumping next off-season, the Boesers if the world will be making 7M+ in UFA. They already get 5-6M being 28+. If he can maintain his career avg of 20+ goals and 60ish points, he will be worth this at the very least with no retention.

Use this cap space to gain assets
This has to be one of the worst posts I've ever seen. Majority of these deals are deals that even EA's NHl 23 would decline on easy trade difficulty. Then there's the deals with TBL/PIT/EDM where it makes no sense for Arizona.

Lets try something different
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nightowl26</b></div><div>Ok no problem, just going by reports online they want to move him to basically for nothing to rid them of the salary.</div></div>
Moving Garland for nothing was if we took nothing back for THIS season and BEFORE buying out OEL. This deal isn't even accomplishing that as we take on a higher cap hit for THIS season. We dont need to move his 4.95M for 2024-2026. By next season as long as he continues his career norm of 15-20 goals, 50 points, he will be worth a 2nd + when the cap jumps up to 87-90M.
So this deal has us giving up the much, MUCH better player for a 4th and negative 50k in cap space and the loss of a future 2nd + next off-sesaon once the cap hikes up. Players of Garland's caliber were already getting 4.5-6M in UFA last off-season. once the cap hikes up, they'll be getting 6--7M making him underpaid and worth a decent return
If you want to take Garland for free sure, but if you want to give us Bailey back, we want at least a 2nd round pick attached to Bailey. Otherwise we'll just wait a year and look to trade Garland then.

Ideal 2023 offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrockChoy</b></div><div>With the newfound capspace from OEL buyout I feel like the nucks say yes. Blackwood > Marty for sure but not sure how long blackwood would be here due to silovs coming up soon. Idk enough about sharangovich but ryan graves would be clutch too.</div></div>
Canucks laugh and hang up the phone actually.
Why on earth would the Canucks want Blackwood? Especially at this cost? Blackwood's QO is 3.34M, He is obviously getting well below that on the open market, so why would the right to negotiate with him have any value? He isn't some hot commodity. He wasn't even AHL starter caliber in his conditioning stint down in Utica. No one is going to be knocking his door down besides teams offering anything besides a max 1 year 1.15M deal.
The guy is injury prone and washed. He isnt even a top 10 UFA goalie this year where there are only 5 potential starter caliber goalies available (andersen/jarry/varlamov/korpisalo/hill). That means there are 5 other backups that are better available for free.
Graves rights aren't worth much either. Historically, UFA rights go for 3rd round pick - future considerations. Graves's rights are probably worth a 5th round pick at most.
We arent trading away Podkolzin for Sharangovich and 2 upcoming UFA, 1 of which we have no need for and isn't NHL caliber, and the other is going to be vastly overpaid

Canucks pass on both deals.
Rutta is old, slow, and cant transition the puck well. We aren't desperate to dump salary anymore and could sign Schenn (whose probably better than Rutta) for less. Garland imo has positive value if the Canucks just hold until a team needs a 2nd line winger or the cap increases.
Canucks have no need for POJ. We have Rathbone/Hirose/Wolanin all vying for a NHL roster spot on the left side. No need to add a bottom pairing lhd. We need a top 4 lhd

Both deals are laughably bad for the teams not named Chicago. Buf prob won't give you #13 alone for Murphy. Yet you expect to get a mid 2nd + Mittelstadt on top of #13?!?
Canucks wouldnt even swap 11 + Myers for 19th overall. Canucks just bought out OEL to avoid paying teams assets to dump cap. We aren't paying to free up cap space. We can trade Myers at 50% ret at the TDL for a 2nd or 3rd rather than move down 8 spots from the first half of the draft to the bottom half AND pay an additional 3rd.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>-Arizona just eats a year of Pearson at $3.25M and 2x$2.5M of Poolman out of the goodness of their hearts, huh? Rathbone adds minimal value to the package; I think the Coyotes are going to ask for at least a 2nd rounder to eat those deals for you.
-Similar concept here - Anaheim is doing you a favor by getting that $6M off your books. Why are they giving up *anything* when they're the ones doing you a favor?</div></div>
Pearson and Poolman's careers are over. It won't cost anywhere near a 2nd. Look at what they got for taking 1.5 years of 8.25M in Voracek. Rathbone holds more value than a 6th round pick still.

rhd tend to have inexplicable value. Myers I can see being one of those given his 1M caphit. Especially for a team on an internal budget like Anaheim. Wouldnt the Ducks prefer having a stop gap they could dump at 50% at the tdl for a 4th + minimum be better than overpaying a rhd in ufa?

In what world is JT Compher worth 5x5?!? The guy is a sub 40 point 3C having a career year because Colorado has no one better for 2C. As soon as he becomes the Canucks 2C he'll revert back to 30ish points because Mikheyev + Podkolzin is no where near comparable to Nichuskin + Lekkonen for linemates.
This only makes sense if you want Vancouver to continue having albatross contracts that the rest of the league laughs at
