trading the captain
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bricher33</b></div><div>I'm not entirely sure about that. His trade value would be pretty damn high seeing as how he's currently tied for 11th in the league in goals, wins draws like it's his only job, and is a model for young players. That's not even mentioning HES 11TH IN THE LEAGUE ON A 3.75 MILL A YEAR DEAL. with 2 years to go. There is zero chance Columbus trades him but everything and everone has a price and if i was Jarmo that price would start with 2 firsts and a solid C prospect.</div></div>
His trade value is very high, but then you add on that he's doing all that while wanting to stay in Columbus, as a captain for a young team, who just passed the franchise games-played record. And he's a center, on a team that's so starved for center we're still actively looking for one, all despite our 3OA pick performing well and Jenner being tied for 11th in the league in goals.
You're absolutely right, and 2 first and a solid prospect is a start if you're looking to trade him, but I assure you, his internal value is still higher. Besides, the FO doesn't move him without immediately losing the room and their jobs.

The point of moving Peeke is to relieve the logjam at RD for Columbus. This does nothing.

Timmins would sit just as much as Peeke does. Keep him, make the 5th a 4th to pay for Peeke, and add a 6th to pay for the retention. Ideally there'd be no retention and we figure something else out, but I think that would me manageable at least for both teams.

Campbell
If Columbus is taking Campbell, you have to take Elvis back. This is fine compensation for taking Campbell, but the roster math for Columbus doesn't work having two underperforming 5+ million dollar goalies both signed for 4 more years.
There is also no point to moving Laine at the nadir of his value for Columbus.

COL accepts and works out the cap later. That said, Columbus never makes the trade and they'd probably get better offers albeit in trades on here at the least he's very much overrated.

TDL move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>imawesome</b></div><div>I like the idea of Robinson, but not at that price</div></div>
With retention, it's at least a 3rd. I'm also guessing that if the Jackets are selling, and Robinson has had another solid year for what he brings/cap.hit, that at least a handful of teams will be interested. If Brisebois does want him, he may have to sweeten the deal a bit, which he has shown a willingness to do if he felt the move was beneficial.

i would rather take just like a 2nd for boqvist rather than quantity. Jackets have a deep prospect pool, no need to clutter it even more.

No space for another RD in Columbus. By 2024-25 Jiricek should definitely be in the NHL and they still have to figure out how to manage Severson, Boqvist, Peeke, Gudbranson, and Blankenburg.

Order of likelihood, from most likely to least likely:
1. Columbus is massively improved and makes the playoffs
2. Karlsson repeats as the Norris winner
3. The Pens miss the playoffs and win the draft lottery
4. The Jackets trade Boone Jenner

If Petey forces his way out next summer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>Lol
If you want to know why I'm not being particularly engaging with you, one reason is because you assume that the 2025 pick is going to be a lotto pick.
2025. A pick I specifically slated out as a late pick.
If you (and that other poster) can't even get on the right page - there is no discussion to be had. So get off your high horse</div></div>
What you said is: "a (hopefully) late 1st" which is a scenario that I think the majority of people don't believe is likely as they have entirely too many strong teams ahead of them- which would strike me as the most likely impetus for making a trade such as this one. However, that's a fair counter as I set the tone by engaging with the implication that your assumptions were off-base. However, you're the one who chose to engage in a combative way so I'll stay on that particular "high horse" ;)
Since it seems you think I engaged in bad faith, allow me to reframe the questions earlier:
Could you elaborate on why a package of Johnson (~60pt season next year), Sillinger (what do you think is a reasonable expectation for him?), Boqvist/Mateychuk (would you prefer a package w/ Mateychuk?), and a 1st (let's cut right down the middle and say it ends up ~18 or 19, fair?) wouldn't be acceptable to you as a return for Petey (assuming another season of ~100pts) if he demanded a trade out of VAN? Are you of the mind that it would absolutely have to include Jiricek? To reject such a trade, you'd have to think they could get better from another team, in which case, what's an example of a better package you think VAN could get in such a situation?

I could see maybe a Stan or Maty replacing Jiri along with more on the picks end or another kicker prospect ie. Del bel or Dumais. I really don't see Jarmo moving a high end RHD since those are almost as rare as centers.</div></div>
For a player of EP's caliber it takes one of KJ or Jiricek 100%. You do not get EP without one of them included and I rather trade Jiricek than KJ. But I suppose they can be interchangeable in a trade like this.

KJ, imo, is untouchable right now. Other CBJ fans think Jiricek is also untouchable but I'll allow it in this instance. A trade for Petey wanting out next summer would be around a Eichel return not Tkachuk since Calgary wanted to still compete so that trade really isn't comparable. This trade would be a mini retool and to shorten any rebuild Van would have to commit to (also similar to what Buffalo has done). With that you get the following:
- a 50 pt. a season player (23-25 years old)
- a young prospect (mid 1st round)
- mid 1st round pick
- mid 2nd round pick
Now lets say EP is worth more then Eichel was at that time (Which is true since Eichel had an unknown with his neck) so lets bump that "a young prospect (mid 1st round)" to a coveted prospect who was drafted at the top of the draft (Jiricek). Then you have Cole Silinger who is the Krebs part of this trade. Then you have the 2025 1st (which should be a mid 1st rounder) and then we add a 2nd the following year.
We get this as the final trade:
From Van:
- EP
From CBJ:
- Cole Sillinger
- Jiricek
- 2025 1st
- 2026 2nd
This is the most I can see Jarmo offering IMO. I know you, based off comments already, will hate this trade but for the sake of argument I thought I would add my 2 cents.

The very point of having this kind of discussion is to predict what players will do in advance and base our conclusions off such. If you'd like to posit a different set of hypothetical outcomes, you're free to.
However, given the nature of your responses to me, it seems there's no reason to attempt to discuss things.

He's neither a top-5 F or top-5 player. There's a case to be made for top-5 C, though.
However, I disagree that it's outside of the the realm of reasonable if Petey is demanding a trade. People have cited the Tkachuk deal but that featured a 28 & 29 year old as the key pieces and, as such, the nature of the trade and valuation is different. Johnson (assuming a ~60pt season from him) and the 1st (assuming around #10-14) are the central pieces and are a great foundation for such a trade.
I can see why Boqvist may be not that appealing due to his injuries. Would Mateychuk work better despite being another LD?
If we assume Sillinger bounces back (~35 point season as 3C), would you prefer him or another young F (Marchenko, Voronkov, etc)?

As an outsider to both teams, I don't envision a world where CBJ would offer Jiricek in that package. I could see Johnson, Boqvist, Sillinger, and a 1st. That would strike me as more palatable for CBJ while also still being a compelling package for VAN (3 young, talented NHLers & a 1st).

But the Jackets don't need LD prospects either. They have Werenski for for foreseeable future, Provorov and Bean for now and then Mateychuk, Svozil, Knazko, Strathmann, and Richard in the system. Ceulemans has a much for projectable NHL future in Columbus as a 3 RD than Allan would as a 3 LD.

Washington and Columbus trades make sense for Hawks. Not sure they do for Caps or Jackets though. Hawks don't make that Toronto trade. Hawks aren't trading Murphy, but if they did, Niemela and the value difference between the 1st and 2nd doesn't come close to paying for Murphy half retained. Hawks lose that trade big time!
Not to mention, Chesley, Ceulemans and Niemela? Seems like overkill in the RD additions.
