Winnipeg Jets Opening Night Lineup

Only thing great about the Dillon/Pionk pair last year was the goaltending they got. This is so incredibly easy to look up. Jets gave up more shots and scoring chances when their were on the ice than when the were on the bench. If that's your view of great... we see things much different.

I am starting to realize that no one on Capfriendly has any real hockey experience. Teams look at production and how and why its happening. Seeing a player on a weak team get feed mins that they won't get on another team is something all pro teams and most junior teams look at.

Next Years Habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Will0613</b></div><div>Well he objectively would have hit at least 20 goals in each of the last 2 seasons. He scored 17 in 52 games 2 years ago (27 goal pace), and 15 in 67 last year (5 more goals over a 15 game span is far from a reach). So yes, he is a perrenial 20 goal scorer and a 40-45 point player over 82 games making less than 5 mil. I won't argue the off ice stuff with you, cause i'm judging based off of his on ice production. Based on his production, he alone has fair value in my opinion. But I added Norlinder, since I thought him being a dump would require the Habs to give up more. But needing to attach a 1st just to clear a 4.5 AAV cap hit for a guy who can still produce at a half a point per game rate just seems a bit greedy to me to be honest. That would imply that Hoffman has no value at all, which I don't believe that to be true.</div></div>
He played on the worst team in the NHL. Which lead to him playing far to high up the lineup and having far to much PP time. His numbers last season were inflated because of that. No basically any other team he's playing 2nd PP and limited 3rd line minutes with players that drive far less offense. He's a cap dump plain and simple. Try to twist it anyway you want. Also Norlander would be the Jets 5th ranked LD prospect behind Heinola, Samberg, Chisholm and Stanley. He is not a player of interest at all.

To be clear... Jets control Dubois for 2 more years. They would only control Dvorak for 3 years. The extra year for a much worse player... just no. Also jets have enough locker room issues they aren't adding Hoffman at all who at this point is just not good. Lastly the jets would have no interest in a LH defense prospect who would be what 3-4 on the LD prospect depth chart. Montreal fans won't give up any assets the jets would likely value so just stop with the trades.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Incredible. I post an ACGM raising four major issues and get 11 comments, not a single one of which addresses a single one of those four significant issues but instead obsess over the moronically irrelevant speculation of what return is appropriate for Josh Bailey from a team which is weak at RW and only has to pay him $7 million against a $10 million cap hit and is one of my two favorite teams, as if I'd be stiffing the Ducks. Utterly ####ing incredible.
I guess Wednesdays aren't the day to ask people to focus on the subject(s).</div></div>
Being Cap compliant is the single biggest issue so if your move to be that is to trade Bailey for the cap space... sorry but that is the single biggest issue to deal with so people are talking about it.

Wheeler is an issue. He can't defend any longer and while still a gifted passer he really doesn't do anything in transition. He needs his teammates to do all the work to get him the puck in space to use his passing. He needs to linemates that can defend, drive play and not play elite comp. Plus he makes big money.

I am a jets fan and its the Blake wheeler issue. Playing to high in the lineup as they start aging out. Still productive... hell wheeler had 60 points in 65 games last year but hes not worth anything because on his contract and even if the jets retain 50% he is likely only worth at max a late pick. Doesn't mean he can't help a team on a 3rd line and 2nd PP. There just isn't free money for these players anymore.

Kadri In Bailey Out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>Here’s the question teams need to be asking themselves. Is it worth leaving a good asset on the table because of a fantasy offer that isn’t coming? There’s just no way Bailey is actually a negative asset. And for the analytics crowd who wants to point to his numbers — you have to remember the analytics community is far from perfect. Jfresh literally tweeted that when he tried to project who would lead NHL defenseman in goals next year the model told him it would be Kurtis MacDermid. That’s just a mistake he’s caught. I wonder how many slipped thru the cracks…. And I say that as someone who subscribed to him anyway lol.</div></div>
It's not that Bailey the player is a negative value... He isn't he can help a team on a 3rd line and 2nd PP. The problem is he since has 10mil counting towards the cap the next 2 seasons. That is an extremely negative draw. Good teams don't want 5mil on their 3rd line and if he's playing in your top 6 you aren't a good team so why take on the contract without a sweetener. NYI will either have to retain some money, add a sweetner or take back money to make a deal work. And the longer Lou waits the less teams can go a deal with him and the more costly moving him becomes.

Any trade the Jets make unless they trade a star player will have to take on bad money. Jets fans need to get that in their head. And if Pearson is on your 4th line your team is solid. Holl is actually solid again like Demelo these are guys that aren't flashy but are good at defense. Dmen can be good while not being flashy or big and hitty.

If Pearson's contract is considered bad then Lowrys is awful, what am I saying it is awful.. lol
Find it hard to believe Vancouver would have any interest in Wheeler or that Wheeler would want to go there, think Wheeler remains a Jet till he only has one year left and then maybe he'll be moved but even then I could see him remaining with the Jets for the rest of his contract.
I know the Jets typically have to overpay for free agents but no way would they have to give Sprong $2M.
Should be able to get a better pick for Pionk, like a 2023 2nd at least though he shouldn't be traded, DeMelo should be the one to go!
Getting Beauvillier would be great, doubt he's the guy the Isles trade to gain cap though.
This team would do okay, its no contender though.</div></div>
And Jim Rutherford has been trying to trade for Blake Wheeler for over 10 yrs. He's basically his white whale at this point.

Btw - true Canes fans are frustrated by his performance last year and know he’s better than what he showed.</div></div>
I am willing to bet the Canes front office knows than Necas is not even close to as good as people think. Had one good season running on shooting percentage. Canes will move him before paying him. Canes are a smart team that understands empty calories type players.

Winnepeg wants fair value for him, and I get that completely.
However, did you see how quickly the misery in Ottawa with Hoffman/Ericksson brought that team down?
If Winnepeg truly wants to fix their problems, then I think Chevy would take the picks and cut/run from Dubois, and use that salary to sign best remaining UFA this year.
Otherwise, the toxic locker room will remain in perpetuity</div></div>
Chevy legit kept a player for 4 yrs that wanted out and finally the player had to kick him out of the room before chevy traded him. Chevy is matching any offer sheet over 3 yrs without even thinking about it.

If it is a long term OS, WIN would be crazy to match and keep him in the locker room long term.
Either way, it is more beneficial for Montreal going the OS route.
Since they don't have to obtain him right away based on their needs, they would force WIN to make a big decision.</div></div>
If dubois signs an offer sheet thats longer than 2 yrs winnipeg would match in 30 secs after he signed it.

jets trying to compete
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Priyce</b></div><div>There's one thing you are missing, is that Dubois trade value is current down the gutter. He did that himself. Montreal is also a rebuilding team, they are not going to give up 1st RD picks for someone they can wait 2 years to sign. Dubois has only hit the 60 points total twice in his career, yes he is young, but is a 2C realistically.
I'd rather give up a 2nd RD pick than giving up Roy. I don't expect you to know much about the Habs prospects however Roy can't be apart of this trade. Montreal's 1st RD pick either.</div></div>
I know Roy as a prospect really well. Hes a good prospect but not in anyway elite. And I think multiple independent people doing prospect work would agree on that. Listen I know every team over hypes their teams prospects so I would recommend going to see what some of the prospect models and scouts say about your teams prospects. And if montreal doesn't want to pay the price don't pay it. Go also know there is risk that he won't sign in Montreal and if he does it will likely be more far more money than they can sign him more right now. What Montreal should be doing it talking to Dubois and playing hard ball saying they will give him 8yrs and 7-7.5mil. If he wants montreal so bad show them by signing a team friendly deal giving montreal even more value to make the deal.

jets trying to compete
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Priyce</b></div><div>That is way too expensive for PLD even in normal circumstances. You are overvaluing him by way too much.
That's basically 4 x 1st RD picks in the 1st Rounders, Roy (would have been one this year) and Dvorak which costs a 1st.
Then there's Dadonov who can fetch a good amount at the TDL.
That's a massive haul for PLD, who, although young, still has yet to accomplish much of anything in this league. Eclipsed 60 points twice in his 4 year NHL career. Suzuki has done better and I doubt you'd trade all that for Suzuki. Let's calm down a bit.</div></div>
Roy isn't a 1st round pick and Dvorak most certainly isn't a 1st round pick no matter what montreal past GM paid for him. AT his price point good luck getting even a 2nd for dvorak. Oh and that panther pick will be what 28-32? Also much closer to value to a 2nd round pick. Go online google draft pick value, prospect values do some research and just don't be a Homer for the team.
Lets actually look at the pieces and there value using GSAA;
Dubois if traded today likely signs a 8yr deal in montreal meaning his GSAA over that time is around 16.
Montreal 1st lets say it becomes the 5th OV worth around 8.2 GSAA
florida 1st lets say its the 28th OV is worth around 3.1 GSAA
Dvorak over the next 3 yrs of his contract is around 2.5 GSAA
Dadanov is a cap dump to make salary work 0 GSAA (feel free to take him out of the trade)
So Roy to make of the rest of the value has to be worth around 2.2 GVAA which is around the 39th OV pick
It really is about what Dubois is worth.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Koskinen_The_Great</b></div><div>PLD is now making moves to leave after not electing for arbitration. He's open to offer sheets now. He's persona non grata in Winnipeg.
The idea that the Jets can just wait, simply isn't a solution, it's an option but an extremely bad option.
Just look at Jeff Petry. Almost every Habs fan realized they could have gotten more for Petry at the 2023 TDL or next offseason with more cap space available to teams with cap space accruing over time.
The problem was the trickle down effect on the players in Montreal and the distraction it creates.
Petry left for pennies on the dollar and many Habs fans expected it. I said it over and over. In a different situation Petry as a top15 RHD would require a 1st, prospect and roster player but I had ACGMs giving him away for late picks, notably a 2nd and a 3rd.
PLD isnt going to get fair value and he's a needless distraction to the team. Waiting for the right offer doesnt seem like a prudent solution when he's making his dissatisfaction loudly known.Treating a player that badly that is makiing it know he wants out will also not endear the Jets to other possible free agents or players that are thinking of playing for the the Jets.
The Jets dont have to trade him to Montreal but the louder this dissatisfaction grows, the more chaos it will cause over the Jets organization. Any self respecting Jets fan that has pride in their organization should be anxious to get rid of PLD even if it means making a bad decision today for better business down the road.</div></div>
PLD really hurt his rep leaving CBJ. He has finally started to repair that rep but if he doesn't play well and is a problem in the dressing room all that work he did... done. Also PLD hasn't handled the media pressure well. Montreal media will eat him alive if his play is Meh. I like PLD as a player I think Montreal is one of the worst spots for him to play.
