Well likely Winnipeg will let teams talk to his agent and be open to a sign and trade. I would think a 1st, some player or prospect worth a 1st and another b type prospect would be the deal. Also jets are not talking on any contract where the cash is higher than the cap hit so no one on the Montreal roster fits that bill. Dvorak, gallagher, anderson, hoffman and armia in the next 1-2 yrs all make way more cash than than cap hit. Jets will be having an internal budget I will not want those contracts period.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yanp007</b></div><div>Dubois intention is clear, he wants play for MTL. So, which team will trade with Winnipeg for one year before UFA? Look a Patty Kane's trade, he wants play only NYR, the return to Chigaco wasn't great. MTL will not overpay for PLD in this situation.</div></div>
Jeff Gorton paid 2-2nds for Adam Fox when Fox had already said he only wanted to play in New York. The 2 2nds were likely a bit over market value. If Gorton wants a player he will pay to get the player and not risk not getting him. Its really about how much montreal wants him.

Habs are going to be bad next season again so if montreal wants to give the jets a likely top 5 pick unprotected and a 3rd... sure. I would also think if Dubois wants out of winnipeg he doesn't sign an offer sheets that locks him in for the year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Camper27</b></div><div>I've been reading the discussions with Windjammer.
Well, moving Pionk is definitely the wrong move right now (rather than get into a back and forth, lets just leave it), but he's still required on the point, 2nd pwr play group and the pairing with Dillon.
Overall, I'm concerned with the size of the Jets D and the passion for Heinola. If anyone should be moved its Heinola immediately as a trade asset. Soon after that, adding short term help as in one (1) R side D-men with size as in (Van's- Scheen, St. Louis's -Bortuzzo or Islanders -Mayfield) and keeping DeMelo and Pionk and moving Schmidlt for a late pick so be a consideration. Longer term, we need to add some size starting with the right side, either from the prospect pool or making that trade, when the fit is there.</div></div>
So as soon as someone says jets need more size on the backend I stop listening. Watch the games when jets have to defend they are fine at first. They break cycles and get the puck back... the problem is they can't move the puck under pressure and all the "big guys" aren't fixing that issue. Jets issue is always on the repressure teams apply after they fail to move the puck up ice.

It just sounds like you have a dislike for him for whatever reason and don't want to give him the credit for where he actually rates as an NHL defenseman.
The Morrissey thing isn't a comparison of what they had accomplished, it's a comparison of how fans think. The only ones I've heard campaigning to move Pionk are the same overreactionary ones that wanted to trade Morrissey for the last two years after every down game he had.
I get it, the Jets haven't looked as good the past couple weeks, let's panic, make someone the goat and make a bad trade.
Even if you want to stick with your evalution, it makes no sense to give that player away for nothing and not replace him. How does downgrading the defense make the team better?</div></div>
Pionk is hurting the jets right now. He isn't a break even player right now he's a net negative and I'm not giving him away I'm getting 2 picks and his cap space which is almost 6mil. Not having Pionk in the lineup right now helps the jets.

I can understand that not everyone is going to like every player, but you need to be objective as to the player's actual skill level.</div></div>
again objectively he has 6 seasons in the NHL and has performed like a top 4 dmen once... in a shortened season only playing the Canadian teams. Morrissey has been in the nhl for 7 years and had one meh season and one bad season but he also had 3 good seasons before his slip. These are not the same situations. SO when you use the word objectively I'm not sure how you look at Pionk's body of work and go.. Yup definitely a top 4 dmen.

But going to take time, and definitely not trading from a strength so better to stand Pat.</div></div>
The jets have a puck moving problem. Not sure how a big physical dmen solves that.

Pionk has had one good year in his career. The shorten season in the canadian division. I am not sure why people think hes that player and not the one hes been his other 5 season. And schmidt has been much better this season and his history of top 4 play is also much better.

Hey I don't think Montreal should trade for him or sign him.. They won't be good for 3-4 years unless they get major draft help and he's an expensive play they don't need. But if the Habs want him that the price. Which is what I said at the beginning.

Good luck with that. That's a far heftier price than even a young established 40 goal scorer with more team control got. Its comparable to what Eichel got.
I think you mean the fanbase that's <strong>citing insiders</strong> saying that Edmundson could/should get a first.</div></div>
First when Dach was drafted means nothing. We have years of data to trump draft spot... but if using where a player was drafted than that really hurts Roy's value he was drafted in the 5th round. It works both ways or no way. Dubois if traded at the deadline will be the youngest and best center traded at the deadline maybe ever... Players like ladd, copp, hayes, Stastny all got 1st round picks and multiple other pieces in deadline trades. To think Dubois won't get the jets at least a 1st, good prospect and a 3rd piece is kind of laughable.

Talk to any one with NHL connections and they will tell you PLD signing in winnipeg isn't the risk for montreal in all this its PLD getting traded to a team that is far for attractive to NHL players (New York, Cali, etc) and also PLD having another year to build on this one making his long term contact even more expensive. People who think they isn't any risk in Montreal waiting are either stupid or but flat-out uninformed. Maybe both.

Hawks really need to add some young F depth.</div></div>
Hawks fans are going to be very disappointed in a toews trade if it happens. One he is old his not worth what you think and to top that off he has a full move and will likely one have 1 maybe 2 places he will waive it for means hawks have no ****ing leverage... See flyers and Giroux who went for less than his value about he would only waive his NTC for 2 teams. Now maybe the hawks just won't move him than but if he's moved it will be for less than his value.

Justin Barron is a top prospect. Him and a 1st is the best Winnipeg is gonna get for Dubois.</div></div>
where did this Justin Barron is a top prospect come from? His amazing AHL production that doesn't exist? Oh how about that he made the canadians out of camp on one of the weaker dcores in the nhl wait he didn't do that either. Morgan has been a solid middle 6 forward for the jets since the trade with solid underlying numbers as well.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>That's probably more than they'll get from anyone else since everyone knows PLD fully intends to test free agency next summer and most figure he'll wind up signing with Montreal anyhow. As for Montreal they have don't need to trade very much for him if they're going sign him as a UFA anyhow and no incentive to trade for him at all if they don't intend to sign him.
He'll probably wind up going to a top contender as a deadline rental with 50% retention for something like a late 1st and a 2nd/3rd or B+ prospect. Then he'll resign wherever he wants to in the summer. If Montreal's offer is competitive chances are he'll sign there.
Yeah that sucks for Jets but it's the brutal truth. Why do you think you got him from Columbus so cheaply in the first place?</div></div>
So Andrew Copp was just traded last season as a pure rental for a 1st, 2nd and Barron. I don't get this talk that Dubois has no value. Hes better and under than Copp and even as a pure rental has very solid value.

While windjammer is nuts on his ask you are very light on what you think dubois gets... Andrew Copp just got the jets a solid prospect a 1st and 2nd. Yes. But i have been a big fan of Demelo's and his very smart quiet game since his time with the Sens. Demelo is so smart and makes the game so much easier for his partner. But hes not fast, big or flashy hes just good. That pair was good at limiting shots and scoring chances which is what you want your defense to do.

If a player is getting out scoring chanced and out shot while on ice no matter the comp they aren't doing their job well. If your eye test thinks they are... yeah your eye test could be wrong. Also every nhl coaching staff use stats as part of job. Their use stats to well see what happened and than use video to try to correct it. Its an important tool for the pros.
