Calgary Huge Three Way Trade!!!!
Florida gets Galchenyuk and doesn't give up anything in the trade? Just a straight up freebie?

I really like the idea of playing Lazar on his off-wing with Backlund. Everyone seems to play better on Backlund's wing and the way Lazar plays can really complement that line. Very creative.

CGY: 17/18 Roster
That Arizona deal is so bad... a declining goaltender in a saturated goalie market for a first, a roster player, and two prospects...

Bouma is in the minors because he sucks. Rather give his roster spot to a young player. But I agree with your other points.

Flames 17-18 with Niederreiter/Mason/Franson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skylardog</b></div><div>Not bad but I do have concerns. You are throwing out the youth, and not in the short term only. I like Stone in the right role, but for 4 years - not sure. Engelland will command more than $1.5 and to spend more for a guy on the bench? I would like to see what Kylington, Morrison, and or Andersson can do. May be the last chance for at least one of them to prove they are capable. We need to know for sure.
You have a similar idea to what I am thinking by putting a young forward prospect with Backlund and Frolik. I like it. Tkachuk is ready to take on a bigger role. It is hard figuring out if Backlunds line should be 2 or 3. If 2 then Tkachuk is a third liner. Not just your issue, I have a hard time putting him on a line in the top 2 if you take him away from Backlund.
I am not a Mason fan, nor a Johnson fan. I have always thought Philly was a better team when Mason was out and Neuvirth was in. And I wouldn't want Neuvirth in Calgary. I think Elloitt is better than he showed last year. Gulutzans system change really messed up his head early in the season. I think he will be good to go next season.</div></div>
Thanks for the input. How i see it, Nino is a stud. He's got the advanced stats to back him up, adds the physicality we need for our top line PLUS he's an RFA so I think he's worth the price (maybe more). In terms of youth, I think its time to think ahead with the young players we have now. This roster has 9/12 forwards under the age of 26.
In terms of defence, I want to over-marinate Kylington and Andersson in the farm. When Franson's and Kulak's contracts expire we can bring the swedes up. Stone slides down to the bottom pairing with Kylington. Andersson pairs up with Brodie. When Stone's contract expires, Fox should be ready to make the jump. Engelland can walk if he wants more than 1.5M. I'd like to keep him around because he sticks up for the team and apparently everyone loves him.
I shifted Tkachuk down to Bennett's line because Bennett can't carry a line on his own like Backlund can; Bennett needs talented wingers to get him going. Backland should be fine with whoever is on his LW.
As for goaltending... with Bishop and Darling gone, Elliott costing a pick and Fleury's value being all over the place, I think Mason is the best option available in terms of cost.

I know Brodie plays better on the right side, but under Gulutzan there's no chance he's going to be playing RD again. So I don't think we wanna spend 4.25M on a guy who would slide into the third pairing. Also Brouwer should never play with Bennett again. Bennett's performance improved significantly once Brouwer was demoted to the forth line and Chiasson took his place. I like the goalie signings though.

Sorry man. You're not getting a 1st for Fleury. If he's that expensive, Flames will probably find another solution in net.

Fleury, and my thoughts on next seasons roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Snobalt</b></div><div>
In fairness, although PIT is probably pretty desperate to get Fleury out of there, I'm nearly certain that other teams will provide better offers than the theoretical CGY offer here.</div></div>
Probably true. However If I was Treliving, I'd probably explore other options if this offer was rejected. Wouldn't want to break the bank for 2 years of MAF when the Flames are essentially looking for a stop-over goalie until Gillies or Parsons is ready.

Fleury, and my thoughts on next seasons roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>trickydick55</b></div><div>
yea you're right bc the flames are the only team who will be calling on Fleury a 6 time all star. obviously there will be no competitive offers from other teams. sorry I forgot.</div></div>
If Pittsburgh can get any decent offer from a team requiring a goalie AND isn't on Fleury's NTC, they're going to pull the trigger. Chances are they're going to "lose the trade" by not getting fair value. But the alternative is losing Murray to expansion or buying out MAF and dealing with cap hell for years. So I don't think the trade is as far off as you think.

After previous failures I WILL fix the Flames D
Just a heads up, Gulutzan likes to play defence on the same side as their handedness. So I can't see Brodie on RD and Andersson on LD. Might make going after Hjalmarsson moot unless you want him as bottom pairing.

Overpayments of Oshie and Bishop. Huge mistake on exposing Frolik for no reason. Downgrade with Hanzal over Backlund.

Yeah, that's how I see it as well. Treliving gave up assets to bring Lazar in. Would be a mistake to lose him to the expansion.

I like the Bennett contract. If he reaches his potential, 4mil in the later years of his contract could be a steal but I feel like he'll still get bridged. As of late Elliott has been better so I'm okay with the contract but I wouldn't give him more than 2 years. With Gulutzan behind the bench, Brodie is stapled on the left side so I don't see us bringing in Alzner. I'd rather spend that money to bring in a winger for Bennett (don't think Shinkaruk is ready). Just my 2 cents.

Calgary trade doesn't make sense. They'd would be shooting themselves in the foot if they were giving up Parsons just to get rid of Wideman.

The Boys N' The Huds Comeback Tour
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>trdeJong</b></div><div><i>Blue_88.... I like where you are going but Huds with Johnny & Money does not give them what they need... A right shot RW with size that plays in front of the net and will open up ice and shooting lanes for both our young stars... I would suggest moving Huds to play with Bennett and Tkachuk... He has proved that he plays well with young talented players and can help them find their NHL game as he did with Mony then Johny...
Johnny - Mony - Brouwer
Hunter/Lance - Backs - Frolik
Tkachuk - Bennett - Huds
Shinkaruk/Lance - Stajan - Chiasson...
By x-mass the Bennett Line will probably be our 2nd line...
GFG</i></div></div>
Sure, why not. It all works for me. If Hudler can work with Bennett/Tkachuk like he did with Johnny/Mony that'd be golden. I agree with the Bennett line being the second line by the second half of the season. Sheltered minutes on the third line at the beginning of the season will help them develop.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>trdeJong</b></div><div><i>Perron is not worth 4.25... and we can do better than Ortio...
Other than that not bad...</i></div></div>
Perron's advanced stats are just a little shy of Frolik's so almost matching contracts seem reasonable. Ortio I believe is a serviceable back-up who will agree to a small contract. This way we have cap space to dabble in free agency without having to try and unload our terrible contracts.
