<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>Johnson isn't waiving for Detroit. Plus he doesn't have a lot of value from Detroit's point of view he's 30 with 4yrs left on his contract at $5M per. and his production has dropped in each of the last couple of seasons. Being on the wrong side of 30 that most likely isn't going to get better. A playoff team or a contender is your best bet if you want a big return for Johnson.</div></div>
Yeah, TB in a tough spot with Johnson. He's a "tweener" can't seem to find a solidified role on Tampa. I picked Detroit considering that Stevie Y gets a 2nd round pick attached and that Detroit doesn't have to protect Johnson for the upcoming expansion draft. Maybe he waives for a chance to play bigger minutes for a year and then goes home to Washington state to maybe be the captain for Seattle?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NMAvsFan</b></div><div>I actually do like Gourde's game for the most part but his numbers have been declining precipitously for the past 3 seasons although he did have a decent PO showing this year. Any chance that's due to him being buried down the depth chart? Or is this him simply regressing to his mean? If it's the former, maybe he could fit in with the Avs; if it's the latter, then Colorado is just taking Tampa's albatross for them so they can re-sign the up-and-coming Cirelli. He's got 5x5.166 left which isn't insignificant so Avs pass. Also, doesn't Gourde have an NTC? Think he's just going to waive it to leave the SC champs?</div></div>
It's a tough call, he has had success playing top 6 minutes. His contract was due to that 25+ goal rookie season. I do think he is buried on the TB roster. He could play the 2nd line for TB, but Johnson seems to get stapled to the Top 6 based off of reputation with Jon Cooper. The big question for Colorado, is Yanni Gourde a better Nazem Kadri, worse or the same? The contract is more, but is the value better over the long-term? Also, the only way I think Gourde waives is to go to a team that has a chance to contend, that's why I picked Colorado.

Lines from todays practice
Couple things to unpack from this.... Johnson getting opportunity to find himself at Center again. Don’t really like Stamkos/Kucherov together because they can never seem to figure out whose going to shoot.
Palat with Cirelli/Killorn I guess makes sense in the fact that the latter two are typically featured as a tone-setting/shut down line. Maybe they drag Palat into the pace of play.
Love the 4th line.. and we’ll see how long this Hedman/Shattenkirk pairing lasts. Figured Sergachev would get that spot to start

lines opening night
Volkov probably sent down for 2 reasons: He was injured and missed almost last week of camp, probably not best idea to bring half-healthy rookie to make debut AND then he needs to play top 6 minutes if he's going to be up or Top 9 at the very least. No sense in bringing him up to play with 4th line. Verhaeghe had good camp so Volkov pushed out due to injury, he'll probably first call-up

Lines I wouldnt mind seeing when Point returns
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jasalex</b></div><div>I do not disagree. I just would like to see how Verghaeghe does before we lose him to waivers. However though I have not seen a game reports are Gemel has added energy and grit.</div></div>
I agree that I don't want to lose him to waivers, maybe he starts the season with Tampa to see what he can do, but its just hard to imagine that he can establish a solidified role on the 4th line. He's going from a top goal scorer in the AHL, to a 4th line minute muncher on the NHL's most talented team. My qualm is we might not be able to see what he can really do in terms of scoring touch/playmaking ability as a 4th line winger. So his value is decreased a little

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nickkbowen25</b></div><div>Johnson (a 29 goal scorer last season) doesn’t belong on the 3rd line.</div></div>
He had 18 assists though, I think his 29 goals come from the play of his teammates rather than Johnson driving play himself. Johnson hasn't been the same the past few years. We've seen spurts of that 72 point season from 2014-15, but not consistently. He has also played wing the last few seasons with the emergence of Point, so maybe allowing him to play center again with the Triples is rejuvenating in terms of his ability to command/drive play on the ice.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jasalex</b></div><div>I agree until Point returns let the seasoned forwards that are paid well play top six. If they are successful then they add value to the team or for trade purpose. Put Gourde third line center and see if he can produce, again can only add value.
Oct lines;
Palat- Tyler- Kuch: triplets are back
Killorn-Cirelli- Stammer: Killorn and Cirelli have chemistry and Cirelli gets a chance as second line center.
Volkov-Gourde- Joseph
Verghaeghe-Paquette- Maroon
If Palat or Killorn faulters then we have options.</div></div>
I like these lines right here...Cooper paired Cirelli with Stamkos in game 4 vs Columbus, seemed to be an effective pairing. Putting the Triplets back together early on could be something that gets Palat going to start the season. I think I would switch out Verhaeghe for Gemel Smith. I think Smith's style is better suited to play along side Paquette and Maroon.

If Lightning get bounced next year in first or second round or early in the third round then YES absolutely find a new coach. You cannot fire coaches who lose in game 7’s of conference finals with no for sure replacement who take the team over the hump. And that person has to be a bonefide bet they will win the cup but there is no such thing.

Okay so give me names of proven winners that aren’t taken and have a system that could win in today’s NHL? You seem to be in the crowd of “Fire Cooper” but don’t provide solutions, names of coaches etc. The only guy I would bring in for Cooper is Quenneville but he’s off the market. Just because Cooper doesn’t show the media that he’s interested doesn’t mean much of anything. We could have Melnyk and Dorion just remember that.
Okay as for Point.... once again why would Point leave? Players like to win.... Tampa wins. Point can leave sure, but whose giving up those draft picks and paying his salary? He’s not going to Ottawa, Edmonton, or New Jersey and willing to mortgage the prime years of his career in losing. On top of having money lost through taxes. All the teams with no state tax are in the upper half of the NHL right now so they can’t provide compensation for offer sheets.

I was on the train of “Fire Cooper” after being swept but I quickly got off because you don’t fire a coach that wins 62 games. It’s tough to justify that because then who do you hire?
Erne is replaceable but he will be back because of 2 reasons: 1) first full season in NHL last year, can’t replace after that small of a sample size. 2) bigger forward that Tampa doesn’t have, he just needs to understand that he’s 210 lbs and play like a net-front player. He plays like a perimeter player
Paquette may leave but he has a role on a perennial contender, tough to leave when you have a solidified role.
As for bridge deals...... only young players who have elite potential get higher bridge deals in the Lightning system. Gourde didn’t get one, and neither did Miller. Johnson and Palat were figured to have elite potential after Palat was a Calder nominee and Johnson scored 72 points one season so they got small bridges and they haven’t panned out. Kucherov got one for obvious reasons and Point should as well but they have been consistent for the past few seasons.

Palat is a really tough trade. I figured Paquette was getting some security with this new contract considering he had a career year in points, I believe. Plus Jon Cooper LOVES the guys that came up with him through the AHL. Its why Palat and Johnson are always in the Top 6 when they sometimes shouldn't be.

It works for both teams in my opinion. Both teams get what they need. Miller hopefully provides scoring touch, but still has that size Trotz and Lou like. Tampa gets a bonafide grit guy with size for post-season. Same with Johnson for Carolina, true Top 6 guy who can help spike scoring for Carolina.
