No, you said Caps would not do 1‐for-1. Regardless if you think it's terrible or not, MY point stands that someone put it out there that they would do it.

Don't see anyone complaining about Point, Matthews, or Pettersson's style</div></div>
Because their style leans to distribution. They're all 3 better than Kuznetsov or Monahan. All have more A/60 than G/60, but they're such talented players, that there's not much separation between the stats. Point has nearly as many PRIMARY assists/60 has he does G/60. Pettersson actually has MORE primary assists than goals. Matthews is a unique case, because he shoots more, but he has Marner feeding him who's a pass-1st winger.
Much more often than not, the center is the distributor.
Go look at the list of goal scoring leaders. Almost to a man, they've got more goals than primary assists.

I didn't ignore Goals. Monahan is 14th, Kuznetsov is 53rd. A center's responsibility leans more towards puck distribution, (unless you're on the level of Crosby, Mackinnon, McDavid, etc.) though, so setting up teammates tends to be a greater indicator of value there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>And Kuzy being slightly better than Monahan makes Calgary consider this awful trade why?</div></div>
Kuznetsov & Monahan both hit the NHL in 13‐14. Since then, they've played 520 games & 591 games, respectively. Here's how they rank for centers (min. 400 GP)
Pts/60 :
EK - 7th (2.21, tied w/ Tavares, just behind Mackinnon)
SM - 30th (1.87, between JT Miller & William Karlsson)
Assists/60
EK - 2nd (1.55, only McJesus is better)
SM - 54th ( 1.00, just ahead of Carl Soderberg)
On-Ice GF%
EK - 6th (57.6, just ahead of Crosby)
SM - 56th (50.4, just ahead of Bryan Little)
Monahan is 2 yrs younger, but also a UFA in 2 yrs. Kuznetsov is signed for 4 more years, and in my trade StL retained 800k in salary to balance things out.
Point is, maybe you don't like the deal, but let's not pretend Kuznetsov isn't a real upgrade over Monahan.

How could you know that? He only has a 15 team no trade. That's 16 possibilities. Tarasenko has a full no trade. He gets to choose

Because Kuznetsov is a better center than Monahan, who could/should also be moved.

They've gotta re-sign Landeskog & Grubauer this season. Assuming they sign those players, that's ~$13 mil. Add in matching Makar's offer sheet, and they're 2 mil under the salary cap w/ only 16 players signed. That's a lot of trades to make to even ice a complete roster. Their depth would be severely depleted.
Plus, in 2 years, they're then staring at Mackinnon and Makar needing new contracts at the same time.

You could be right. Maybe not though. No one knows for sure what Tarasenko is worth, outside of the GMs who've requested his medical records because they have interest.

They also have Noel Acciari as their current #2 center, per CapFriendly depth charts. They'll need to add there.
Maybe the 3rd is too rich, but they have an extra one. The pick is less important here than moving out Bozak.

Initially, Bozak was going to Columbus in exchange for Dubinsky, but I figured they'd need the cap space as well. So, Bozak to Florida (since they need center depth) for a pick, & that pick w/ Gunnarsson to Columbus for Dubinsky & a pick.

Ottawa has 3 1sts this yr. They're looking to improve, not keep picking top 5. They own NYI pick, which is likely #20 or later. It's a fair deal for a starting goalie & 2 top 9 D men for a team that needs a bunch of help.
Fredrik Anderson alone, without a full starting season, got a 1st & a 2nd the following year.

No. Next offseason is next offseason. With this roster, they Blues have over 18 mil in cap space next year. Schwartz, Thomas, & Kyrou will eat most of that, but if you have to move a Sanford or Barbashev to keep Schwartz, you do it

Meh, maybe. Maybe not. None of the players moved are worthless. Allen had 2 inconsistent seasons, & Blues fans think he's untradeable. Bozak & Gunarsson are good role players, & Reinke would be in the NHL if not for being blocked.
Maybe the 1st is ambitious, but a 2nd 2yrs away & a 2nd next yr aren't outrageous.

True. But Eller cannot form an entire 3rd line by himself, so..... insert an inexpensive 20 goal scoring Swede who can play center or wing

Who said anything about "this year"? He scored 23 last year, and had seasons of 22g & 21g. This year, he scored 17 in 57 games, so ~25g pace over 82gms. His #s in his career actually are better than Eller's, & they're less than a year apart in age.

I'd actually prefer Holtby for 2 yrs, then trading Allen & allowing Husso to mature in the AHL. I just don't think, with how they've leaned on him in the postseason, that they'll move him. Something's gotta give w/ all their goalies though.
