Cap space for a Cap?

Description
There are a lot of ridiculous Ovechkin trades on here. I thought I would try to come up with one that's win-win. Convincing Washington to deal their best player would be expensive, but the Oilers would make the next four finals, and win one or two, so it's worth it. Also, they still have cap space. Amazing. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/o/ovechal01.html

dude, look at the long term outlook,

10 million in cap space next year and you have 9 roster spots open
16 million in cap space in two years with 12 roster spots open
20 million in cap space in three years with 15 roster spots open

even if the cap goes up 2 million a year, you are playing with half an ahl roster

True. Seems to work alright for Pittsburgh and Chicago.

Pittsburghs 3 highest paid forwards make almost 6 million a year less than this situation with mcdavid/ovechkin/draisital

As a Caps fan, I just want to say that I'd lose my goddam mind if we made this trade. We already have enough young defenseman, and RNH doesn't do us any good. We already have an excellent group of centers, there's no need to mess with it. The two firsts would be at the back end of the first round anyways. This is a horrible trade for Washington. This isn't a "win-win" at all. This is Edmonton getting multiple championships while the Caps are only getting logjams in return

Don't worry Edmonton won't get multiple championships with this kinda deal, maybe they'd have a shot this year, but after that they'd have to have a fire sale

...and the cap was six million lower when they put it together, but it seems to be working out, as the cap expands and they get some breathing room, even though they've had to sign castoffs like Justin Schultz to make up a blueline, instead of keeping guys like Matt Niskanen around. I hope Washington never makes this deal, but if they ever decided to rebuild, Edmonton's a great young club to trade a star to.
