Pretty sure if you've taken a look at the salaries the top offensive defenseman on the UFA market is not going to sign a deal that will make him the 57th highest paid D in the NHL.

I take the Reichel for McGroarty trade. I don’t think it’s straight up but Reichel is on a team friendly deal and he’s a PPG player in AHL so he just needs to take that next step. For arguments sake, let’s say he goes to WPG and can put up 40-50 points. He’s very underpaid at $1.2M for 2 years which is good trade value.

The conditions are that say WPG get Reichel and McGroarty signs in CHI no pick is exchanged. The 2nd round pick only moves if McGroarty does not sign with CHI.

You can't make picks conditional on signing anymore.

Hawks won't be in on Montour. With jones around for 6 more years and Levshunov and Rinzell now in the pipeline, that signing makes zero sense. And Reichel doesn't get McGroarty. Winnipeg passes on that deal.
