Description
Babcock says the top 4 pairings are set as here.

I think a trade of wingers happens, but not sure where. JVR likely goes unless resigned, then Hyman plays 3rd LW and Martin 4th RW (unfortunately). Yes, I dislike Martin on the ice. I've seen every Leafs game he's played and always a terrible waste of space. Luckily he just plays against other 4th lines, but Leafs would be so much better running a competent 4th line, not just one you hope not to take a penalty or give up a goal.

I'm assuming they're playing hardball with Brown and that's why he's not signed yet. But ultimately can give him 2 million or 5 this year and it doesn't matter unless trade for a really high salary.

I like your lineup but I don't see Connor Brown signed for under $3M x 4.
I like Martin out of the lineup via a trade but we all know Babs wants him on the 4th line.

I don't know why some folks are so anti Martin. It's the NHL, the Leafs (and most teams) need a Martin on their team. He certainly doesn't hurt the Leafs when he's on the ice.

The year before Martin Leafs got pushed around a lot, and then turning to an almost all-rookie team it made sense to have someone like Martin as a policeman, if someone starts being an ass with Matthews, Nylander, Marner you know you have to drop them with Martin....actually he is also good on the boards and other team have to be aware cause you are going to get hit when he is on the ice...and he doesn't play that much so is not taking icetime from anybody.
I think what most people don't like is his 2.5M contract, IMO it becomes too expensive on his last contract year when Matthews and Marner have to be resign, he might end up traded because of that (last year cap hit 2.5M but salary 750K so they already thought about that). Anyway if he is gone someone else will take his place, you need someone to protect your best players, if Rychel is still with Leafs by then maybe he does it, I am not sure but I think he also drop them as last year had 118PIM and that is a lot without 5min penalties...and should be able to produce more than Martin as well.

I made the Martin comment in the description solely for you. I've watched every game, and he never does anything good. At 1 million per and being the extra forward playing under 2 minutes a game he'd be fine. But as Babcock insists on playing him, he does nothing good. Even despite playing against scrubs all the time, his numbers absolutely sucked until a competent centre and winger were put with him. Don't know if Moore will be that.

Fourth line winger. 14 points, plus minus is zero. Gee looks relatively good for his ice team. I'll disagree with his that he doesn't do anything good.....You say he plays against scrubs all the time. Well if Babcock wants to do with home ice advantage he can. On the road though, don't home team has the option of who the 4th line play against.

I see the problem. You think +/- has meaning. Look at the advanced stats. He's brutal. And anybody who he plays with are dragged down with him. On the road, he only plays in the offensive zone on draws so can get right off the ice. On an AHL team he'd be getting sent down to the echl. But Lou thinks they need a tough guy. Nope. Might be amazing off the ice. Should be getting 1 million and stay in the press box.

Oiler3535. No I see your problem. I don't believe you see many Leaf games as you have claimed You have a great number of comments about the Leaf lineup, but I wonder where this knowledge comes from. Keep your stats. I feel I have a much better feel of the Leafs then you, but I'll agree player evaluations are subjective. And if you don't believe me, maybe coach Babcock knows best.
Nice fairy tale to justify your non indefensible stance. "Martin is only on the ice to take the face off in the offensive zone." Even your logic should know, that the Leafs (or any team) would not put their offensive players on the ice for offensive zones face-offs, not an ECHLer as you claimed.

Watched every game since about 93. And I understand math. So Martin = bad. And Martin at 2.5 taking time away from competent player = terrible.
