Really gonna have to sweeten that deal with Detroit to take a good prospect, PLUS dump Trouba's money on us. You'd have to retain half.

the Red Wings just paid SJS a 2nd round pick to take Walman, despite multiple teams literally saying they would've paid assets themselves to get walman. yzerman is not as good a gm as people want to believe

If there actually was a GM out there who would have given the Wings even a 7th for Walman, Yzerman obviously does that instead. Why would he just give away a 2nd if he didn't need to?

Ummm in a few years he's gone from 39 points to 91, improving a lot each season. He did this while inheriting the worst roster in the league, many bad contracts and ZERO useful prospects. We now have a ton of cap space to work with, arguably the best prospect pool in the NHL and should've been in a playoff spot last year if not for odd NHL tie-breaker rules and a horrific March when Larkin was hurt. Not to mention he drafted Seider at #6 overall and won the Calder and might very well have the steal of the draft when he took Lucas Raymond at #4. Keep in mind, as bad as they were, they were never even gifted a top 3 draft pick in the lottery. So, yeah, I think he's doing a fantastic job, all things considered.

Correct. Like these people know more than Steve Yzerman does. it's pretty unbelievable.

Also, Walman hit a pretty big regression defensively last year. He only had four more assists than Justin Holl (who played far fewer games) and had the least amount of assists of all regularly dressed d-men. I don't think he will reproduce the 12 goals again, as more people are aware of his great shot. It sucks, but hopefully we can pick up another d-man and if Johansson works out, then we have a much improved d-core from what we had going into last year.

he built one of the worst D corps in the entire league and traded for one of the worst goalies in the league, and has laid his foundation for a cup run over the next 4 years in a forward group consisting almost entirely of middle-6 forwards who went on an absurdly unsustainable shooting% binge this season

It's a rebuild. He's filling out the roster with NHL guys until the prospects have developed. Edvinsson up this year. Axel Sandin-Pelikka next, who, by all accounts in basically another Kris Letang. Then there's Cossa developing very well in net. Nate Danielson will get a shot with the big club as well.

Typical fluff article with nothing substantial written at all, everything is heard through the grapevine.

Without naming teams he's gossiping like a schoolgirl.
