I’m sorry, I had him mixed up with Marc-Edouard. I’m embarrassed. I was thinking two veterans who might want to coattail and McDavid for a/another chance at a cup.
That makes a ton of sense, all good. For what it’s worth, If we were trading the other Vlasic I’d still decline but that’s in the top 50% of trades proposed involving the Hawks in terms of being balanced.
That's a bit rich bud. He was great and he may still improve but he's not a franchise defenseman like you're suggesting here with the top 5 pick. Nurse also won't cost "multiple 1sts" that is absurd. PLD got traded 1 to 1 with zero retention.
That said: mw6 there really is no way you're getting Foligno who is basically the team's captain and Vlasic who is the team's current best defenseman and put up pretty solid metrics on a horrific D corp last year in his rookie season. If he hadn't had a few extra games prior to this season already he would've been talked about in the Calder voting, but he didn't qualify. Nurse and Jones are arguably two of the worst contracts in the league. No way Chicago wants or needs him.
For everyone else reading this post, Davidson is building a team of his own vision. Anything he's acquired, signed, or drafted is likely OFF the table. He appears very calculated in his moves so acquiring and signing Foligno and signing Vlasic to 6 years is purposeful and he's not going to then just flip them for parts. I encourage you before you make an ACGM involving Chicago, it shouldn't involve any Davidson pieces.
I strongly disagree on being a franchise defenseman. Last season, the Hawks were outscored 51-50 at 5v5 with Vlasic on the ice. I don’t have the numbers for 5v5 without Vlasic, but if we include all 5v5 goals with a goalie pulled, the Hawks were out scored 89-186 without Vlasic. That’s a goal share of 49% vs 32%. He was one of the best defensive defenseman in the league last season. He’s already a top-pairing defenseman, if not a #1 defenseman. But he was one game away from being a rookie last season; it’s very likely that he gets better; and he’s signed for 6 years at $4.67 million per year, which would become one of the best contracts in the league if he continues to develop even a little bit more. I’d take that over Sam Dickinson or Zeev Buium.
Haha, ouch! Sorry, I thought a Nurse-Jones pairing would be intriguing
Ok, so you took my reply in stride instead of getting bent out of shape (like many here do) . So thank you & I will stop poking the doll.
On a serious note: we will probably never see what a Nurse Jones pairing is like because they are both overpaid. Hawks don’t mind Jones as he is by far the best option they have at top pairing RD but can’t see them being willing to take Nurse w/o being paid handsomely to do so.
Vlasic is part of the future core & only slightly lest untouchable than Bedard.
I cant believe I'm saying this, as I continually tell people here that cap space is a great return in itself.
Your overrating cap space.
These superstar players like McDavid, MacKinnon and Draisaitl will always be underpaid because of the max cap limit. You are never saving money trading away special talent like that.
I hear you and I agree to some extent! But surrounding McDavid with as many good to great contracts as possible in his prime should be the no.1 priority. There’s a business approach to it as well. Risk diversification. McD, Drai, Hyman, Kane, RNH is a really strong top-6, but if McD or Drai can’t play they’re probably not contending. If anyone is injured in the proposed top-9 they still got a shot because of the depth IMO. Which leads me back, again, to my question. Would this lineup improve McDavid’s/Edmonton’s chances of winning?

Appreciate it buddy!
Yeah, that’s what was so alluring about it, the 19M$ pair who should earn 11-12 and play 18-19 minutes a night Didn’t mean to disrespect the Hawks though.. since it probably wouldn’t have been as funny for you guys
There are 6 much more impactful defenceman available in this draft over Vlasic. That is my point.
Now who is being absurd. I guarantee you looking 5 years down the road there will not be 6 defensemen in this draft that are better than Vlassic. That is crazy talk. But as others have stated, last year Vlassic was one of the top shut-down defenseman in the NHL.
