And while hes 31 yrs old and signed for 6 yrs, (he has had 2 yrs off which helps the mileage on his body), if he goes LTIR, it doesn;t hurt against cap in the future, and while he might not get back to 70 pts, he looks certainly able to be a 45-55 pt guy in a growing cap after getting back to game shape/speed, so I dont think hes worth tons, but hes worth alot more than FC.

I don't see Flyers doing this, Coots is the captain, had strong start for the season but ran out of gas after missing 2 seasons before this. Will be reliable but overpaid bottom 6 center in the future.

There are six years left on his deal. The CBA expires in two years, and the NHL has expressed interest in closing the LTIR loophole. There’s no guarantee that a team could stash him on LTOR for the current cap benefits by the end of his deal. And even if he becomes a 55 point a year guy again, $7.75 million for six more years is a significant overpay. This contract is a cap dump, and a fairly significant one.

Hawks won't target Gryz as a UFA. Hopefully not Myers either. And there is zero chance the Hawks take on Coots and that contract.

That's a strong statement as that contract has been running for 2 years and before that he was like most underpaid player in the league (4,3M for ppg selke winner). That contract was also considered as one of the better ones when signed, but no one can predict injuries.

Yes CBA is expiring and if it goes as before that there's going to be some major changes, they probably also grant teams 1-2 compliance buyouts that doesn't harm the cap space (like we have Bryzgalov).

I have to imagine contracts signed before the rule change will be grandfathered in, so I doubt this applies.

Okay, I should have been more precise. The 2019-2020 season, when he was 27, is the last time he lived up to a $7.75 million per year contract, which is the contract that he currently has. Injuries are unfortunate and unpredictable, but we know about them now, and even if you attribute his decline entirely to injuries it’s unlikely he’ll regain his form of four years ago. He’s a cap dump.

And as for LTIR, they “probably” will grant some form of buyout. That means the Hawks still take on risk at the end of the deal, when our contention window has opened.

His season wasn't that bad tbh, just ran out of gas like mentioned because he was playing 19-22mins/game after missing 2 full seasons before that. He netted 30 points in first 41 games and 8 in last 33 games. He also had 59,2 CF% and 6,3 shot% so could say he was either rusty or just unlucky. According to Dom Luszczyszyn and his player cards, Coots market value performance was worth 5,6M still.

I'm 100% sure he'll be even better next year with one full season behind and full pre-season ahead. This might be just the fanboy in me writing (always been my favorite in Flyers since he arrived to NHL) and ofc his contract may become a problem in the future, but I'm sure they ain't considering dumping him now.

No. He isn't. CHI isn't taking on an in decline, injury prone, 31 year old, with 6 years $7.75M left on his contract. I would sooner give that money and term to Lindholm than take on Couturier's contract for nothing, let alone pay for it. It is even worse if he is on and off LTIR constantly, because we wouldn't be able to use that space in case he is cleared for contact... Unless he decides to LTIRetire. And if we are talking about that as a possibility for a player... What does that tell you about the player? No one is paying anything for him. PHI likely either needs to hang onto him themselves, or pay to move him. If they can get anything for him, it will be very minimal and probably require retention.

Easy decline for Chicago. They aren't taking $40m worth of damaged goods.
