That’s the worst marner trade yet!

Make it a 2nd and it's fair IMO

Kempe put up 70+ points at half what Marner is paid now, and almost 2/5th of what Marner wants. Also if I'm Marner no way am I giving up playing with Matthews on my contract year unless a big contract comes with it, which LA won't do after PLD so recently biting them.

Toronto can pay him $12M, no thanks from LA, we're happy with Kempe and his steal of a contract.

They usually include Kempe, Clarke, 1st. lol. Delusion is strong in Toronto.

i dont care what the point difference is between Kempe and Marner, I'd rather have Kempe 10/10 times. Steps up in the playoffs, has a physical edge, and lets be honest. Marner's points are inflated because of all the offensive talent he plays with, wouldnt be surprised to see him hovering around 80 points in LA due to playstyle.

Welcome to capfriendly. There is a bad Marner trade every day and you just added to it.

It's not toxic, it's a one-sided value basis with no thought from Marner or LA's camp and there are several of these trades daily.

Here are the facts:

- Marner put up 85 points with one of the strongest centers in the league
- Marner has a NMC and can dictate where he goes if he waives
- Marner has already met with the Leafs new coach and has not opened any discussions for a trade or extension
- Marner without a contract is motivated to stay with Matthews or a similar caliber center.
- LA just moved on from PLD who was supposed to be their long-term answer at center
- LA will either use that space to address finding another center/$4-6M winger or reupping Matt Roy or a similar shutdown defenseman
- On a cost per point basis Marner (128,270 per point) vs. Kempe (58,333 per point) / Kempe also has 3 more years on his contract
- Free Agency is a week away and LA can find 50-80 point wingers at half the cost of Marner

There will be another one of these by tomorrow it's just getting old.
