I mean yea I'd do it freeing up 7 million in cap space to move down 8 picks is worth it... flip zadina for like a low low round pick and just rebuild the prospect pool via depth
Trouba probably has San Jose on his NTC

Aggressive moves. Most good.

I think McGroarty wants to be traded cuz he thinks he's ready to play in the NHL right now. You should make some room for him in the lineup.

Fine to trade Ferraro, but then you need to find a replacement. Rutta as P1 LD is no bueno.

Rangers pass. Trouba can be had for FC and Kakko for a 2nd. Otherwise no thanks.

Y’all were handed a favor and then have the balls to say Kakko is worth a 2nd and a $16 mil camp dump doesn’t have negative value lol

Grier saw an oppurtunity to acquire a player he wanted for free. It wasn't a move he was forced to make. Goodrow helps meet cap floor and a vet prescence for the youth. Did NYR get lucky? heck yeah but they don't have to go sell first rounders and attach Kakko to move contracts. They'll trade these two players for what they are looking for not what makes sense only for other teams.

Except it wasn’t going to be for free, the trade would have been blocked. So Grier settled for free and I’m expecting there to be something else coming that actually makes this stupid move worth while

If we assume that the Rangers are happy sending Trouba to San Jose and not getting something back, the pick swap (Rangers give up #30 and get back #42) is equivalent in value to a late 2nd/early 3rd; I'd argue that getting back two useful NHL players that combined only cost $700K more than Kakko should give enough value to the Rangers to meet your price for Kakko.

Drury probably is dead set on taking a player #30. He’s absolutely sunk our pool and the difference between those 12 slots has a large drop off

Just trying to say that there isn’t something with it. Grier wanted the player and had to get locked in the contract without a sweetener to do it. They value the player. Same situation with McDonagh to NSH and Hall to CHI. A high $ player for essentially nothing.

This draft is fairly top-heavy - I get not pulling the trigger if you were top-10 and you know there's a good shot of getting your guy, but I'd argue that the difference between those picks today isn't going to be terribly large. Also think it's hard to say you'd be locked in on a guy at #30 - there's a lot of randomness in front of you that can really mess that up.

Point is, if I want to move Trouba and the cost is less than what it cost the Leafs to move 2x$3.8M of Petr Mrazek, it is something that really needs to be considered, regardless of who you have your heart set on. And to give some context, here's the #30 & #42 overall picks from 2015-2019:

2015 - #30: Nick Merkley; #42: Mackenzie Blackwood
2016 - #30; Sam Steel; #42: Jonathan Dahlen
2017 - #30: Eeli Tolvanen; #42: Eetu Luotsarinen
2018 - #30: Joe Veleno; #42: Jack Drury
2019 - #30: John Beecher; #42: Vladislov Firstov

I think since Goodrow is gone that NYR have the luxury to eat Trouba’s contract. They’ll either sell him for free or retain and get assets. Kakko the same.

Agree with that - Grier doing his old buddy a favor definitely lessened the need for something like this to happen.

I still feel like Grier geniunley values him as a player and wanted him. Getting him for free was his bonus just like Hall to CHI and McDonagh to NSH. If Goodrow waived his NTC without a doubt SJ would have leveraged some assets back but at this point the book is closed.
