The Canes will not retain on or use a first to dump KK, certainly not both.

Milano and cbj are never getting back together.

Value wise is fine but trade targets coming back are not a fit at all tbh.

Don't know Kakko's true worth but It's not more than Dowd. I'd think you're more likely to see that 2nd go the other way. If you'e looking at point production then it would make sense but that's not where Dowd's value comes from.

You can have KK but not retaining (especially more than a buyout would cost them) and likely not giving up a first in a pick exchange.

I know Dowd’s a Lavy-favorite, and bring tons considering what he costs. But Kakko still has upside which I’m sure NYR feels has some value, but I’ll gladly stand corrected. What say you Rangers-fans?

I will assume your young guys are off the table. (Any roster player 23 and under) but if so lmk.

If not, then I wouldn’t be opposed to a picks and prospects return. We can retain appx 2 million to help facilitate. Outside of your younger players I don’t see a major fit in a player exchange. Any of those guys you think could be had in a laine move. Let’s say I offer laine at 6.5 and a third what could be had?

Not quoting me but his buyout is .85 million for the first bit then .45 so I’m thinking .85 would be the max retention. As far as compensation goes Carolina shouldn’t be interested in paying to dump him unless cost is super cheap (if they need that money and want to go down that route)

My hunch is since don is gone he is bought out since it’s the last year of his 1/3 buyout window.

The salary for two years isn’t a problem in this scenario, so I wouldn’t be interested in “paying” extra for that. Caps have a lot of big contracts coming of the books in the next two years. I see the “bad fit”-issue and I’m not really interested in making it a bigger deal. If the players offered isn’t of interest for CBJ maybe they can flip them for picks in separate deals? Or even with retention at the TDL to maximize their value?
Would you pay with picks to move Laine?

For laine a picks trade would have to be conditioned.
Let’s say a second and a third.
Second upgrades to a conditional first (top 10 protected) if laine scores over 30 goals. Drops to a third if he scores fewer than 10.
The third would be upgraded to a 2nd if he plays in 65 or more games. If he does not play in 35 or more. Pick drops To a forth rounder.

Gives the acquiring team some outs if he doesn’t live up to the expectations but gives the jackets a decent consolation prize if he lights it up. Which if he returns to old laine, he’s well worth the conditions.

Their main priority is going to be bolstering the top half of their lineup. Could they use Dowd? Sure. Do they need Dowd? No. And there are cheaper options than him for his role too. If Kakko is gonna get traded there needs to be a top line player coming back

I hate to be that guy, but I think both you and I know Kakko isn’t bringing back a top line player at the moment, and I guess that’s why he only signed his QO recently. And there is no player in the league that does what Dowd do on a cheaper contract.. but if you deem a trade is unlikely.. your guess is probably at least as good as mine.

Never said he was getting a top line player return on his own. Obviously that's not gonna happen. I was implying that he needs to be part of a package for a good player if he's gonna get traded.
