San Jose could probably get a late first for Ferraro without taking a brutal contract back

possibly, but SJ is going to need someone to protect all their young fire power.

Could see something like Kakko+1st for Ferraro at the draft and then Trouba goes on waivers to be claimed by SJ once his NMC turns into a M-NTC on 7/1 (after the draft).

Complete trade would be Ferraro for Goodrow, Kakko, Trouba, and 1st round pick. The Ferraro for Kakko+1st would be an overpay, but not so egregious to set off alarm bells at the league office for teams circumventing trade protection or cap rules.

Overpay on Marchessault but would need to shift all that money right to Walker.

I'd rather qualify Robertson as a 7D than Mackey.

Why should Othmann hop Cuylle?

Like the general idea. I think the Sharks would need a bit more to take on both Goodrow and Trouba's contracts.

Ferraro is worth a 1st alone.
It would cost more to dump Trouba. Could be as much as two 1sts: one for Ferraro, one to dump Trouba.

7th D could be whoever - just there as a salary place holder.
Cuylle's style is more of a 4th line player where Othmann would be a bit more skill based and play better with Chytil/KK. I could be wrong...

Too much for Schneider

That Marchassault contract will make extending Laffy, Igor and KAM more difficult

Grier loves doing doing Drury favors. Sjs might throw in a 2nd.

i'm not convinced it is too much - almost a mil less than Miller.
NHL has become a year to year league - hard pressed to find a GM that cares about 2-3 years down the road.
win now, worry about roster later...

Except Miller has been playing big minutes since his NHL debut and Schneider has been 90% on the bottom pair. Not really the same, I’d say $2.2m

Yea but the problem is Igor probably walks for nothing or they get screwed over trying to clear cap because teams will see they’re strapped (I’d dump Chytil to create space)

You mean like Goodrow, Burroughs, Kunin, G. Smith, and Sturm?

Trouba's not really a fighter. If we need a guy to throw an elbow we'll let you know

If Ferraro were worth a 1st, he'd have been dealt at the TDL most likely. He's a 4/5 on a good team, but signed to a solid deal which makes him more valuable than his play. Trouba also isn't an albatross contract at 2 years. He's probably more of a $6M player than an $8M player just like Goodrow is more of a $2.5M player than $3.6M player.

All in all, you'd be taking on maybe $3M of excess cap compared to player value on the open market. In return, you'd be getting 2 veterans/winners along with a 1st and Kakko. Not sure how easy it is going to be to lure quality veterans to SJ until we start winning some games.

a bit pie in the sky for a team that will finish in the bottom 5 for at least the next 3-5 years.
NO FA's coming the SJ until they are ready to compete.

Othmann is definitely a better player. Cuylle is great but he’s a 4th line guy that can fill in for injury on 3rd line. Don’t get me wrong he had a great season and start to his. Career but he’s truly more of a depth guy than othmann.
