Would love this trade for the Jets but Cbus isn't trading that pick and probably not trading Jiricek either.

this actually has a lot of sense except the Jiricek.
Make it KJ instead. KJ is from BC, obviously not toba but much closer.
Connor grew up with Werenski, and would be massive for Columbus. DW has hinted the 4th overall is not a lock to be kept, he has traded a top 5 pick before (to move up)
although i doubt Laine wants to go back

Jets need RHD, and Jiricek's stock is down a bit. according to dobberprospects they've downgraded him from 'superstar' to 'good 2nd pairing guy'. As for Laine wanting/not wanting to return to winnipeg. the understanding in Winnipeg is that Laine's problem was mostly with Blake Wheeler, and the Jets didnt really have a choice but to back their captain. The Jets always put Laine in a position to be successful, and the fanbase would welcome him back with open arms. I don't want to trade Ehlers, either, so this really solves a lot of problems for the Jets in my opinion. Buy low on Laine, get back a good pick to replace the one you traded for Monahan, and get a good prospect at a position the jets are woefully thin at.

From Columbus' prospective: get a bona-fide 40 goal scorer with two years of term on a good contract. Play him with Gaudreau and Fantilli to have a legit 1st line,. Pionk is a bona fide NHL calibre RHD rather than a prospect. He scores points even though he's not "great" defensively, plus you get a high second and a former 1st round pick ready to make the jump to the NHL next year. He's probably a 3rd liner with some upside but Lucius is cost-controlled for the next three years on an ELC, then you have him under team control for another four years.

lots to like from both sides on this one, but unfortunately I don't see the Jets trading Connor.

lol cbj laughs and blocks your number. connor is really good but besides him your giving up a lot of filler (jets fans have been trying to trade pionk for a 2nd all year long, lucious is crap, and you only added a 2nd). Its basically connor plus a couple seconds for 4th overall, jiricek and laine. there is no incentive for cjb to do this and you will never see picks in the top 5 traded because teams value them very highly. this offer is not it

Not to mention connor turns 28 this year and is only signed for 2 more years.

If this the package was available they would easily get better offers

i'm not the highest on KJ and this would push us ahead much more without losing much current. 1 game of Brindley looked better than almost anything I've seen from KJ. We can't just keep waiting and waiting. Johnny is about to be 31, Werenski 27 with injury history. Connor is in between those ages and would immediately become our best forward. We cant wait until every single prospect is ready then have johnny and werenski on the decline

I would agree the deal is slightly slanted towards Winnipeg but if you consider Laine is a cap dump it could make sense. There is no guarantee he even returns to the NHL and if he does how effective would he be? His play prior to shutting down was... less than good. I think its a huge risk for any team to take on especially at $8.5 million for 2 more years. IMO this is a negative trade asset. The best player in the trade by far is KFC and if I understand correctly hes good buddies with ZW so would likely sign an extension. Jiricek is a depreciating asset and is clearly not the Norris trophy caliber defender everyone had thought he would become.
So break it down as KFC, Pionk and the MTL 2.05 for the 1.05 and DJ and then had Lucius for Laine I might say its pretty close.

This trade is a no go for the Jets. They need to keep players they've committed to otherwise people won't sign here.
