Farabee is a NY native who has no NMC-NTC and has fallen out of favor with Torts and his system. Adams decides to target a young winger with upside who just had his best system. Most importantly he has term, which is important for a team with a 13 year playoff drought. Buffalo also gets either pick #31 or #32 in this deal.

The Sabres would be hesitant to part with Kulich, one of their top prospects, but Adams knows his time to strike is now, and they have enough prospects in the pool to be able to part way with one. Adams has made it known in the past that it's hard to make NHL trades, so in this scenario he parts ways with a high end trade chip as well as pick #11. In order for Philly to be comfortable parting ways with Farabee, they need a player who is NHL ready, and Kulich certainly is. Clifton fills the Erik Johnson role that Briere acquired from the Sabres last year, and will add some physicality to the Flyers blueline.

Vegas needs some $ this offseason and while Roy is great value, he is someone they can afford to part ways with. Vegas acquires Ostlund, a promising young center prospect.

The Sabres have made it clear they want support in the bottom 6, especially a 3rd line center. Roy fills this need with some good term left on his deal as well.
