No chance the Hawks eat Trouba’s remaining 2 x $8m just so they can flip a 7th round pick for a 3rd round pick.

The Hawks can definitely use an upgrade for their third pair RHD but they can find one for a much more reasonable cost than what Trouba makes. Having said that, the Hawks have the cap space available to do the trade IF the Rangers are willing to pay a reasonable price for the $8m in cap space they are looking to dump. That price starts with a 1st round pick.

I know some hawks fans here are rejecting but if Chicago cant land one of the RDs they want in free agency I think they'd be all over this. Troubas overpaid by a few million but the term and player profile makes sense for the hawks

I think it would take at least a 2nd (or a 1st but we give back a 2nd and change). I agree with you that this trade would be better than playing Menga/Tinordi/Zaitsev at RD next year, but I think Davidson would be wary of giving the Rangers too much of a discount for what it could do to his leverage in future trades.

I left him out since I want the Rangers to trade him but was not sure what a return could look like. A 1st? A 2nd and a decent prospect?

Yeah, sounds right on price…or maybe swap him for roster player.
