I know I got a little crazy with these trades but let me explain

1) Carolina gets rid of Kotkaniemi’s 6 year remaining contract off their books. They acquire Merzlinkins contract which has 3 years remaining, and who could maybe even be somewhat useful for them. Columbus tries to take a big chance on Kotkaniemi and revive his game to be the next 3rd line center for the next 6 years. Sillinger, Svozil, Jenner together get Necas…if that’s too much or too little let me know.

-Laine and Boqvist get traded to Seattle to potentially find their game over there. In return, which may look a little underwhelming, Columbus gets a solid leader and player in Jaden Schwartz who can perhaps help fix the culture of Columbus for the next 2 years. They get Ty Kartye who is a solid, young bottom 6 player added to the mix. Ottavainen is a good, young AHL RHD who had a solid season. Add him to the mix. And then I included a 2nd and 4th round picks. Seattle would be taking a decent chance here getting a potential offensive threat in Laine and hope to revive the young offensive dman in Boqvist to replace Justin Schultz.

-I signed Matt Grzelcyk as a temporary place holder #4-5 dman. Ivan Provorov expires after this upcoming season and I probably think he gets dealt at the deadline. They’re gonna need a placeholder dman until a guy like Mateychuk is ready to go. Grzelcyk provides experience, puck moving ability, and has plenty of experience on Boston’s top 4.

-let the young kids thrive in the AHL and take their time. Brindley, Luca Del bel Belluz, Mateychuk, Ceulemans, etc…let them get that experience down in Cleveland. Call them up for a short stint if need be. I personally think Brindley is ready today. But let this season be a competition for roster spots for guys like Chinakov and Kent Johnson.

-I think signing another 4th liner would be beneficial as well even though I didn’t do that here.

-Lastly, I brought in a depth RHD for AHL. Someone who has experience, can play a small amount of nhl games if needed, and can be a fine #8-9 dman. I chose Alex Petrovic

Finally, Columbus drafts Cayden Lindstrom or Ivan Demidov depending on availability.
