They are looking for a 2nd pairing RHD, assuming Pesce walks as a UFA. Chychrun would 100% be playing 3LD in Carolina, behind Slavin and Orlov. He isn’t a 3LD, but that’s the role that he would be in. Hell, even long term, he would be playing 3LD behind Slavin and Nikishin. Why should the Canes go out and get a expensive LHD who will only play at 3LD for the foreseeable future, and will likely be asking for about 7mil on his next contract, when that same cap space could be utilized to improve more important areas of the roster?

Yeah you are correct its not what the Canes need - that being said Orlov would be bumped for Chychrun.

I can see some merit in this for all three teams, though I feel like it should be Boston giving up the draft pick rather than Ottawa (though they don’t have one that’s close to the Ottawa pick), since they’re getting a RFA for a 1-year rental, but what is Ottawa going to do with Korpisalo? Run him and Ullmark as a tandem for a year and hope the competition makes Korpisalo better so he can be a solid #1 when Ullmark leaves?
