[Canes Fan take] - Why do the flames do this? Posters on CapsFriendly way under rate the value that defenders, especially those under contract, have. JM value is sky high right now because name another legit top 8-15 starter in the a $6m x 2 contract available. What do you get on the Goalie FA market for $6m x 2?

Being in Calgary, seeing Markstrom live, I would buyer beware on Markstrom at 34 but I could be wrong.

Andersson is the main piece. I’m not super high on Markstrom but I think he’s at least as good as Freddy if not a slight upgrade that costs a bit more. I’d love this deal.

Freddy is just as good, maybe better, def better when you look at the money. However, Freddy's health would make Markstrom a smart pick-up. Carolina will have an interesting offseason this year.

“probably” Sounds like you’re not too sure about that yourself

Both Andersson & Markstrom are rated much higher than the overrated (AFAIC) Necas

You just exposed yourself as not knowing a ton here by calling Markstrom a washed up Goalie

If we went off CapFriendly’s Valuations, Necas is rated a 81-L1 which is decent, but that was done on October 24th of 2023 after having his best season and starting the season with 6PTS/7GP. Necas proceeded to have a weaker 2023-24 season than the one previously by only putting up 47PTS on the remaining 70 Games Played after the first 7GP to start the season

Conversely, Andersson was rated at 87-P1 and Markstrom was rated as an 82-1A at the same time. After having a good season statistically, Markstrom is now rated 90-1A

So yeah, they’re both higher rated than Necas who won’t replicate his best season any time soon, especially if he switches to playing Centre on a new Team

Yeah, .905 Save percentage is great after a season of .892.
Gold star
26 playoff games at 34 years of age is also a great indicator that he is a top 10 goalie.

Talking to you is like talking to a flat earther.
How many Flames games did you go to last year? I went to more than I care to admit, and Markstrom did not pay better than 20+ apposing goalies that came to town.
I will defend the d more than the goalies and forwards on this team.

I think their top end is similar but Markstrom is more reliable when you factor injuries in. Higher cap hit brings it a bit closer but if we can fit it all in then Markstrom makes more sense. Especially when you look at this trade. We’re pretty much even on cap in and out and canes would move Freddy to clear more space on top of it.
