Well, if this doesn’t get them to the playoffs, nothing will. You’ve burned all the assets for a bunch of one year contracts and you’ve managed to have no money to re-sign anybody next year.

Realistically, they won't be able to re-sign everyone, but they have to do whatever it takes this year to make the playoffs. If they don't, a lot of people will lose their jobs. However, most of the key players, such as JJ, Konecny, Quinn, and Levi, will be getting contracts to return next season.

The assets they gave up were expendable, and they already have many more great prospects and pieces for the future.

Some of those one year contracts are players who probably should expect a pay cut on their next contract, but they won’t all need to be retained either. But you still have to rein it in with spending. Konecny shouldn’t get a penny more than $7 million a year on a long-term deal, and looking at everything a second time I’m truly only not liking paying so much to get him. The other wrench in the plan is that I doubt Skinner has any intention of waiving to go to Chicago. I don’t think that he would agree to be traded anywhere. And I actually really don’t think they have any plans of moving him either.
