Have the Flames throw in the 2024 2nd too, and even then this trade would make sense only if the Habs could then get Holtz and 10th from the Devils for Markstrom. But then, why wouldn't CGY trade directly with NJD?

There's absolutely no point in the Habs giving up draft capital and a young center/winger for a goalie we do not need.

A team that's about to start "beefing" up for playoff runs is not going to trade a dude they got last year, plus a 5th overall pick for an older goalie and the 10. Habs are fine in nets. and the ONLY way they move their own pick is for a star forward, most likely winger.

No worries about that since the Flames wouldn't do it anyhow. I said it was "closer than most of the crazy Habs trades around here" but it's still not something the Flames would do.
