One mediocre season as a #5 LD doesn't negate his way overpriced contract and how crappy he's been the last 3 years lol

I also had the pleasure of watching a wings game live this season. Spoiler, he sucks

He was really good and is a guy teams like because of his physical play. He's actually a perfect fit for Nashville right now. He's a legit top four defenseman and has trade value.

Lol, no he's not. He was given his contract because GM's love to overvalue bottom pairing defenseman because they throw a couple hits.
Nashville already has a cheaper player in Lauzon. Send the cap anchor elsewhere

The Jets aren't trading an extended Ehlers for a bottom sixer and futures. That's less than a TDL return for a rental.

I'd prefer if the Jets just signed Ehlers to a $7M×7 deal but that's a pretty good offer, I'd do that if Nik unfortunately doesn't want to extend with the Jets.

Crazy how teams overvalue players and laugh at reasonable trades.

Ehlers is a fantastic scorer and has some dynamic ability. With that being said he is oft-injured and soon to be a free agent and is due for likely a 30% raise on his next contract which would likely be more than $7m per.

A top 15 draft pick is a great baseline in a deal for Ehlers and while I think just adding Fabbri to the deal doesn’t make a deal happen, it certainly isn’t as far off as people have commented on here.

Given his durability, personally I wouldn’t give up much more than this for him, though.

It's both not enough value for an extended Ehlers and not the type of return the jets want for him

It sounds like you might be doing that with your Detroit players. Fabbri is meh, and a 1st is nice, but that's basically the TDL rental price for a Ehlers calibre player except that this is for an extended Ehlers so its absolutely on the low end.

But the main issue is that Winnipeg isn't looking for futures or bottom sixers in an Ehlers trade.

So it is crazy how some fans overvalue picks and low end players.

I don’t think Ehlers comes to a team “already extended”. That happens after a trade unless otherwise specified but, usually has no bearing on a deal and typically isn’t a “sign and trade” scenario.

I can respect not looking for futures being the deal breaker. I think you’re overlooking a detail though with your TDL comparison - getting a 1st round pick at the trade deadline typically the expectation is picking somewhere in the 20’s because it’s likely coming from a playoff team. The pick received in this deal is cemented at #15.

Sure the 15th overall pick isn’t as valuable as say a top 10 selection but to put it in perspective how valuable the pick is, the Chicago Blackhawks just traded a 2nd round pick to move up 2 spots from #20 to #18 in this years draft. Pretty significant imo.

I’m not saying WPG should do that or that you should think it’s a great deal, but it’s certainly not “laughable” as I’ve seen several commenters on here make it out to be.

I think that's you reading between the lines. No one here said it was "laughable". All the replies are stating that it isn't enough value and doesn't fill any needs for the Jets or a combination of both.
