I actually think this too much to give up for Kakko. Kakko has no value anymore and is worth something like a third alone.

I've proposed the Avs 2nd, Barron, and RHP for Kakko before. He's not worth a 1st but I don't think the Rangers do it without a 2nd or equivalent coming back.

I figure, even if the offense doesn't come, he's big and can be an effective 3rd line shutdown guy. He's defensively responsible.

If NYR moves Kakko... they're going to move him probably for another former high pick that is likewise disappointing...

Like Kakko for Johnson

I don't think Johnson is perceived to be as disappointing as Kakko. Personally, I'd be willing to pay more for Johnson than Kakko. Actually, I wouldn't pay much for Kakko... like not the above package

Casey Mittelstadt is the comparable situation... he was moved for Byram, another former high pick. A top 10-15 pick is like a club... GMs would rather try to strike out on another guy who has a high ceiling rather than selling the guy off for nickels on the dollar, even if the guy they're trading for is unlikely to manifest.

Now some top 5 picks you just look at and think "Okay yeah that guy is never gonna pan out" like maybe Alex Turcotte... even GMs will be like "what were we thinkin with this pick". But Kappo Kakko isn't there, yet, because he's basically getting the Galchenyuk treatment... Galchenyuk got moved for Domi, a guy who was picked like 11th. Just the way it goes.

Galchenyuk didn't work out... but does that mean they never work out? Nichushkin is pretty good now and he took a while to manifest, despite his off ice garbage.
