Oh yea he won't waive for Ottawa I agree but Batherson scored 30 ON a terrible team, if anything that gives him more value plus you still have to be GOOD to score 30 goals
OTT isn't really terrible but every team except five had at least one 30G scorer. Buf's Thompson had 29G in 71 games played. CBJ's Jenner had 22G in 58, Bedard 22G in 68, McCann in Seattle had 29 in 80, Zetterlund in SJ only had 24. It's really only CHI and SJ who weren't even really close since Bedard was on pace for 26, and those teams were terrible. As for Chychrun, he's always put up points in ARZ, some of those rosters were much worse than OTT. It's not really a plus if you can put up points or score on a bad team the quality of goals matters too, just look at Meier and Karlsson's production this year on more competitive teams vs last year in SJ.
Batherson would be an excellent piece for the Leafs to replace Marner in the top 6, and Chychrun would be a great add since they could utilize someone with a shot and the ability to score goals off the rush on the backend. Although, I think the only way Leafs consider this is 1) they view Chychrun more like a top 2 and 2) if they are certain he would re-sign. No reason for the Leafs to take on Hamonic though. Neither Marner or Chychrun want to move, so it could be the perfect situation where they live in each others' houses. Marner would be under a smaller spotlight which might be better for him or something that he wouldn't mind but he'll still be all over Toronto (and Ottawa) media. OTT has a young promising core, he might be able to bring a cup to Ontario even if it's not the "right team". Would probably cost 12M+ for the Sens to re-sign Marner I think.
Do I think it's a good trade for the Leafs? Value-wise it's decent but I think they would end up regretting it even if Chychrun re-signs and thrives there. For OTT, it would probably eventually pay off if not immediately. Although, they may need to find two goal scorers, one to play with Tkachuk and Stutzle and another to play with Pinto and Marner. If Norris can stay healthy, then might not really be an issue, they can probably make due with him and Giroux (for the time being). If they can't rely on them though, they won't have the cap space to really bring someone in via FA probably and they still need to forfeit a 1st rounder in the coming year.
