TBL with Stamkos but not Cirelli

Description
While they likely will keep Cirelli, this might be a trade Tampa would consider. If they can get a young NHl player in return luke Quinn in this example, they may be willing to move on from Cirelli. Since they don't need to move him, they shouldn't be listening to offers without proven NHL talent that could slot in the top or at least middle 6. Perbix may or may not be kept, as it depends if they view him above Crozier and Lilleberg going ahead. Tampa can make it work either way though.

At least according to the The Perri Cap Savings calculator Sheary’s contract might cost a high second (~37th overall) to move for cap savings.

Tampa would buy him out and deal with the cap ramifications before paying that price imo. Sheary costs any acquiring team 850k if he's waived and nit claimed. Tampa shouldn't be paying a high 2nd for that, even with the 2nd year attached.

Sabres would be moving picks and prospects unless theyre trading for a top 20 player

Which is fine for soneone else perhaps, but Tampa would likely decline. They don't need lottery tickets if they're moving Cirelli.

Cirelli would be good for the Sabres, but not the caliber of player I'd give up quinn for. I know TB probably isn't interested in picks and prospects, but that's mostly what we'd be able to offer. TB would also be getting a bunch of cap space though, so that would be the selling point.

A 2nd for a Sheary dump sounds about right

that seems really high, its usually like a 4th for 2m retained at the TDL

Sheary has two years left on the contract. It’s $4M in cap savings.

It's unlikely, but for the right return, Cirelli should be available. Moving him is not the only way to keep Stamkos and reach 22 players next season, but it is a path that makes it easier and gives the team more flexibility. More than likely, they just move Jeannot, Sheary, and maybe Perbix to sign Stamkos and 2-3 additional guys making 800k-1 million, but that doesn't address the lack of F depth much. Unfortunately, while having McD back is fine, JBB doing so overspent badly at one position while neglecting another that needed some help. Now it's either let Stamkos walk, still trade Jeannot plus Sheary and add a couple of ~3 million guys plus cheaper ufa's/Syracuse promotions, sign Stamkos and just add the cheaper guys, or trade one of Cirelli/Serg to open up enough cap to add some significant depth. While the latter option is less likely, it isn't impossible.

Tampa is in no position to be losing their young players while re-signing aging players like Stamkos. if Tampa wants to keep their cup window open they need their younger players. Tampa has one of the worst prospect pools in the league. As players like Stamkos, Hedman and Kucherov age they'll need to replace them with much younger players. Tampa is already basically declining. And keeping a 34 year old Stamkos over a much younger Anthony Cirelli makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I doubt Tampa's cup window is anymore than another 2 to 3 years at the very most. Buffalo, Detroit and Ottawa are young up and coming teams in the Atlantic teams like Boston and Tampa are in danger of even not making the playoffs here shortly.

Stamkos just had 40 goals and was ppg. While he may be 34, they'd be foolish to.let him walk unless he's asking for simply too much $. Cirelli is a good young player, but he's not untouchable.

Tampa still has several solid prospects that should at least ne able to be decent middle 6 contributors in the years ahead. Players like Howard, Gauthier, Goncalves, Finley, Huuhtanen etc all have potential to play for the big club.

As far as Tampa's window, who knows. I'd guess at least 2 or 3 more years, but let's see how some of the prospects turn out, plus other moves that JBB might make. While those other teams *may* be ascending soon enough, the only one that took any real step forward this year was Detroit, and they still missed despite the door being wide open for them. Tampa also had 98 points with Vasy missing nearly anthord.ofnthe season and then clearly not fully back for a decent chunk after that. The core is still fine in Tampa, but I figured JBB would've distributed the cap space a bit differently/more evenly between the blue line and depth F this offseason.
