Here's a very plausible Marner deal I modeled off of the Tkachuk for Huberdeau trade in 2022. Both teams are good but need to mix things up to get to the next level. One has an RFA who won't re-sign, and the other has a pending UFA who they do not feel is worth their asking. Necas fits well in the Leafs top 9, while Marner gives the Canes more high-end talent if Guentzel walks. Maner is a better player, so the Leafs also receive a first and the Canes get a chance to revitalize Liljegren.

To round out the squad, the Leafs snag Lyon from a Detroit team that will be looking for an upgrade in net. They also swing a deal for Zach Whitecloud, a very Treliving player who should be available because of Vegas' cap crunch. Also in the door come Roy, Walker, and Perron for relatively modest cap hits. In reality, all of these players may make more than what I put here, but I wanted to assemble a full squad. Overall, this would be an upgrade on last year's team, with more depth and physicality.
