Ottawa and NJD simply make 0 sense as trading partners because we are both looking for the same bottom 6 forwards, goalies, and 1 more defensive dman.

Unless Ottawa wants to overpay us to buy Marino before his NTC kicks in, I don’t see any trade that makes sense.

You're correct my friend. On The Marino note what would you guys realistically like for him? Joseph + 39? I personally do not believe we will get one of the top RDs in free agency because of how our last 7 years have gone, and I think Marino would be someone they seriously target if he was in this free agency.

Marino is interesting. I expect him to be moved, but not this offseason.

From my perspective, I don’t see any real reason to trade him for his current fair value this year. With how awful the RD UFA market is next year, I expect him to be worth as much or more next year

So basically fair value+the cost of this year.

In pick values I’d say a mid 1st 15th-17th of value, but I don’t think it makes sense to trade him for futures.

Maybe to get us a guy like Fehevary to pair with Nemec

Nope that's fair. RD are just so hard to come by, especially ones that excel defensively which SO many teams need. I wish we had 2 more Zubs which is why Marino is someone I'd love lol.

If Brady is put to market, I’m sure Fitzy will bid on him. Ottawa would probably have to be looking at pick- and future-heavy deal (or Brady is asking to be moved). And if new GM wants his footprint on team, that is probably easier bet than trying to mix and match veterans.

Something like that would be more than Timo package. I would think 10th overall, 2025 2nd, a top prospect like Casey or Holtz, a good prospect like Hameenaho, and maybe another piece or two would be a significant offer. If they want Matthew Tkachuk trade and a list of veterans back, I don’t think Fitzy guts the roster for one guy.

A rental Chychrun doesn’t get 10th pick from NJD (let alone a prospect and two more picks).

For most teams I’d say wait till next year, but for Ottawa (and the other Canadian teams) I expect the deadline to get Marino is July 1st. He didn’t sign in Edmonton and is an American boy so I expect his 8 team NTC that is kicking in will have all the Canadian teams.

But I expect today it requires a payment that makes it not worth for Ottawa
