If Andersen was being dealt, I would like another goalie coming back in some form. Like if we were to trade for Ullmark. Idk how far that goalie tandem would get us. Outside of that, Lindholm probably gets a little more and Blake is more likely to make the roster than Gunler.

Would the Kings be interested in Freddy? Yeah probably, but certainly not at 3.4m so unless 50% is retained you'd have to shop him somewhere else. Kings could resign a familiar face in Talbot for far less than Freddy and get similar production out of him without having to give anything up at all.

Sure, i could see the Canes retaining a bit. However I think they'd rather add a bit more to the package than retain salary. 3.4M for 1 year wouldnt sink the Kings by any means

I don't think the salary would work if they tried to bring in Ullmark, unless they were able to move off of one of Orlov, Staal, or Fast (which creates other depth issues). And yeah i probably undersold what Lindholm will make. Lets call it 7M per season. they could still make that work

If you're looking to ship out Andersen in a goalie swap, Columbus would like to talk. Elvis isn't Ullmark by any stretch, but he has proven to be a capable starter in the past, he's just struggled with being in a tandem recently behind one of the worst defenses in the league.

I could see Freddy-for-Elvis one-for-one, no retention necessary on Freddy, and CBJ retain $2M on Elvis to get the contracts to work. He just badly needs a change of scenery, and that option is preferable to a buyout IMO.

Not sure why the Canes would do a 1-for-1 for a worse goalie, even at the same dollar amount. It would make more sense for both teams if Jackets traded for Freddy and then either dealt Elvis somewhere else or bought him out

I'd assume it would be for a different look in net with a younger goaltender, but that's fair. I don't see Columbus trading for a goaltender unless it's part of an Elvis trade specifically to avoid a buyout; Tarasov and Greaves are going to get the nod next season, so as a team likely not competing, we'd just sign a UFA vet to be the NHL backup and let Greaves play in the AHL until there's an injury.

Honestly I dont think its a horrible idea for them to just run with Elvis again next year. They dont need that cap relief yet and he could very well return to form. And, like you said, theyre probably not competing next year anyway. I like Elvis. I hope he turns it around.

I think it's just a damaged relationship, he and the team agreed in January that he needed a new situation, but they couldn't find a buyer. I love the player and the guy, he's amazing...but he needs to be the guy, and he needs a fresh start. If he's on the team next year, there's just no way he's happy, and that's not a good situation for any team or player.
