Marner is a strict rental. And while a good player, doesn't fit NJD needs or timeline in anyway. And leaves us no room to make any other deals.

Vatrano had a great year, but would be typical buy high, sell low trade. At least when we did the Toffoli trade (which is probably a fair comp for Vatrano), we were doing off of a playoff season; Toffoli had longer track record; and Sharangovich was no longer on his ELC.

I don't know why people think Devils window is closing.

In 2022-23, we were youngest 100-point team in 14 years. And youngest to reach second round.

Our core guys are still here, all 20-27 years old.

Our GM has said many times, he will not be buying expensive rentals. They are building something to last years to come.

Neither of these deals make any sense for NJD.

Marner isn't a rental. Any team acquiring him this summer will only do so if an extension is agreed beforehand.

But I agree the Devils don't make sense for a Marner trade. I think he's going to a Western team.

You think that getting a 100 point player in Marner for one prospect isn't a good deal for the devils? The first is what you need to dump the horrendous Palat contract, so Casey is the piece you're giving up for Marner. That's a ridiculous underpay

2. We aren't dumping Palat (certainly not using a top-10 pick, sheesh)
3. We have other holes to fill
